[OOC I can't think of anything clever to do with Whisper. Sorry Nep, brain must be slow. wink ]

Jaliera

She is uncertain that her color spray will reach the ogres without affecting her friends first, so she decides to use her bow then hide. She targets Ogre 2.

[OOC Not sure if sneak attack applies but rolled it anyway ]

Jaliera Arrow, damage, sneak attack, hide
Gypsy rolled 1d20+7,1d6+3,3d6,1d20+9 and got 13, 9, 9, 24

(OOC - Gypsy - If nothing better for Whisper to do, then using it to Distract the Ogres automatically gives you your Sneak Damage on all your attacks. The Owl flies in and annoys the Ogres then flies away. Since Neptune said they were going to close for melee, they likely only have Clubs and don't carry Javelins, meaning they don't have any ranged attacks. That means when Whisper uses her Flyby ability to distract they can't target her unless they use "Ready Action" and that seems unlikely on a pesky Owl when real targets are at hand:

Flyby: The owl doesn't provoke Opportunity Attacks when it flies out of an enemy's reach. )

OOC: Gypsy, Zeim's tactic is one you should consider. To my other point, consider the following questions. 1) Why are the ogres here? 2) What is YOUR team objective - killing ogres or something else? 3) What do you know about the chamber you are in?

I don't want to take the fun away, so I'll leave you with that.

OOC:
Gypsy, you were right not to use color spray but Jaliera probably could have avoided her party members. The bigger issue is the power of the spell. In the description of the spell it says: "Roll 6d10; the total is how many hit points of creatures this spell can effect." If you look at the status post. The Ogres have 59 hit points (unless wounded). What are the odds of rolling a 59 on 6d10?

Lumi is up. Bern and Ryssa can probably act too.

[OOC Thanks guys! smile I knew about the Flyby. I did refresh myself on Whisper as I was considering options however I was put off sending her in reach of the ogres from the dire warnings about her going through the barricade. I don't want to lose our best scout in these latter stages as Jaliera doesn't have the spell currently. I think that concern is maybe less now if there is a lot more room and ceiling height than there was before but that isn't clear from the floor plan. smile And to answer the questions: 1) to kill us or at least delay us 2) find the drow 3) very little and IC would not know that it leads directly to where we think the drow has gone grin So if the ceiling height has increased so the risk is now low, Jaliera will happily employ Whisper as a momentary distraction and then send her off for further scouting. grin ]

Ryssa

With all of her spells - other than the most minor ones - expended, Ryssa prepared, aimed and fired off a cantrip of sacred flame at the closest ogre.

The battle begins with the ogre-made barricade came tumbling down. Why they built the barricade hasn't been determined yet, but obstacles have been put in place several times since the drow escaped. As the large stones tumble to the ground, Chandan is the first to greet the big dumb ogres with a couple of bunches and a kick. Davroar stayed back without the ability to engage the ogres in his current form. The ogre that Chandan punched didn't get a chance to retaliate because Kriv quicky emerged and pulverized it. The dragonborn was not done and stepped forward to beat on a second ogre. That damage, while significant, did little to slow the ogre.

Jaliera stepped out of the shadows and took advantage of that same ogre. With Kriv in it's face, he would be distracted and indeed, her arrow struck true leading the ogre to roar in pain. She then stepped back into the darkness of the passageway. That ogre would roar again when one of the two arrows that flew from the ranger's bow struck it. Somehow, with two arrows stuck in it and a partially caved in chest, the ogre did not drop. The other arrow that Bern had fired missed it's target by a few feet and luckily missed Kriv by less than that. Luminmorn lined himself up to blast two ogres with his breath weapon and neither managed to dodge the blast. Smoke rises from where the the electic blast scorched the ogre's skin.

Then the ogres closed in on the party. Both dragonborn had positioned themselves up front, effectively blocking the ogres from physically reaching the others. That didn't matter to the large humanoids. Two attacked Kriv and two attacked Luminmorn. The fifth couldn't find a path to anyone so he hurled his javelin at Bern. Kriv was struck twice and the damage he took from the two great clubs was severe. Luminmorn was hit by one and avoided the other. But Bern must not have paid enough attention to the ogre in the back and the javelin caught him badly and the ranger could hear the sound of the javelin hitting a rib and slipping into his chest. Through the excruciating pain could feel the blood gurgle in his chest.

And just as Chandan readies himself to launch into more ogres, the loud booming which is the sound of the waves from the dark lake below, echos through the Wave Echo Cave. Some water manages to splash up onto the ledge but quickly drains back down behind the ogres.

Chandan

Perhaps it's the shadows cast by the lumbering ogres that disrupts his aim, but the old monk struggles to see where exactly he's hitting. He feels the resistance, a strike, but has it just cut a groove in the ogre's thick fatty hide?

At least his companions have better eyesight. Reptilian they may be, but the Dragonmen have hearts of lions, and Chandan scowls in concentration to live up to their martial example.

Chandan sees Bern, but not the rest of the party. Hopefully they're working on something crafty to the rear. Bern has taken a nasty blow, but they must fight to the last.

"Bern, push up to Kriv, my friend, protect his flank!" He shouts.

[Chandan hits doing 14 damage. Dammit! Is death by a thousand stabs a thing?]

OOC: That must be Ogre-5 that took the damage - 'Tis but a flesh wound he said.

BTW, Kriv's probably in worse shape, down 2/3 of his HPs. The next blow might drop him.

Davroar is up with Kriv on-deck.

I had some tactical observations and felt like sharing...

The Dragonborn noble was pinned in a corner, hemmed in by two hulking ogres who had battered him to the point where one more impact would drop him. This was a very dangerous place for the ogres to be in. Kriv snarled as he put all his strength into rapid, weighty swings of his maul, but even as he forsook precision for sheer force, in these close confines he simply couldn't miss. His first swing brained the ogre he'd moved out of line to strike, and the brutish, savage flurry of bludgeoning smashes with which he dispatched the second wouldn't have been out of place coming from the oversized thugs. Following up as it fell, he rejoined the line, moving with speed and momentum to drive his maul into the ogre most injured by the rest of the front line. He called back to the others,

"Half of them down. Not sure how much more I can take from them in return, though."

Jaliera
As the young rogue emerges from behind the rocks, she sees Kriv swing his maul with astounding speed, laying out two ogres to waste with multiple strike and hitting another so hard that blood flies from it's mouth as the hammer hits home.

She decides to continue her strategy of targeting their foes with her bow. She emerges from behind the rocks, pulls back the string and lets her arrow fly, targeting the last ogre that Kriv attacked. It hits but these ogres are tough and the arrow isn't enough to kill it.

Whispers keeps her eye open.

Gypsy's under the weather (get well soon!) so I rolled for her:

The devestating strikes from his fellow Dragonborn, enlivened his own blows. He swung Hew trying to land a blow, but the thick hide slipped the weapon, and it couldn't find purchase. Even a softly murmured prayer to the Great Golden Dragon didn't help it wound his foe.

10 to hit, don't know a way to reroll, or to improve his to hit anymore. I assume the spell slot is spent, even though the blow didn't land. Had to try.

OK. Bad news, the "forge of spells" +1 was already included.

Ryssa

The cleric was not close enough to engage an ogre with her new found mace of Lathander and all of her major spells were used up. She tried again to try one of her minor spells.

Aiming her spell of Sacred Flame, Ryssa murmured a prayer to the Morning Lord and let fly at the closest ogre.

Ryssa casts Sacred Flame at nearest ogre
