Fair enough. We couldn't get to the Spider, we couldn't see the spider, and we proved unable to stop the enemy we couldn't see from fleeing from us whilst we dealt with the tactical obstructions placed to prevent us from reaching him.Now let's fix this.

Kriv

Working on auditory memory alone, Kriv headed quickly over to where the Spider had shouted his threats about getting rid of his leverage.Time was of the essence.

[OOC: Ryssa has one healing spell remaining and she could use it as a group/mass spell to at least partially heal everyone if the rest of you want me to do that.]

Kriv moves over to the table where the Black Spider held the dwarf. What really catches his eye as he moves forward is the nine-foot-tall statue of a dwarf seated on a throne , a mighty stone warhammer across his lap. Large emeralds gleam in the statue's eyes.

When Kriv however is curious as to what is on the table. Perhaps there was a clue or two that was left in haste there? In fact he does. The table is strewn with notes and maps. Even a quick glance reveals that they are all about efforts to explore these caves. It would take some time to read everything but as he looks he sees a black leather sack that the drow must have left behind in his rush.

[OOC Ryssa should be healed by Bern and then could do her heal on everyone. After that we should be in a relatively good position to go. Jaliera still has a potion for emergencies.
Might be worth letting Whisper and Jaliera scout ahead especially into new areas. We need to keep healthy for a while! ]

Chandan

"Jaliera, can you unlock this door?" The monk asks.

He could ask Kriv, but Kriv's lockpicks are loud and have a deleterious effect on the surrounding door.

As far as Chandan is concerned, the first priority is to find out where the dwarf disappeared to. The second is to get in hot pursuit of the Black Spider, who it turns out is male, to Chandan's surprise.

(It seems, despite Lolth's infamy, the females of the drow don't have a monopoly on master villainy.)

Chandan is looking at the door. Like all doors in this complex, it's 6 feet tall, 4 feet wide, and made of six-inch-thick cut slabs of stone fitted with iron handles and hinges. The doors are low and wide-perfect for dwarves, the original miners. The door would push into the room which means the hinges are on the inside.

Picking the lock is going to be critical since you don't have a key. Breaking down this door will be difficult and would take the type of equipment that miners would use to break through stone.

OOC: It's the very, very rare drow that isn't evil.

"I thank you, Bern," she said with a smile. "I feel better."

She then turned to the others and picked out her most wounded compatriots. Nodding slowly, she lowered her head and murmured an intense prayer of mass healing, calling for the blessing of Lathander, her deity.

After a few moments of concentration, Ryssa made a small, whirling gesture with her right hand, pointing out the friends she wanted to heal.

She nods to Chandan.

"Coming over."

Once there she checks out the door after sending Whisper to a safe distance. Then she gets out her tools but uses her Mage Hand so that she can pick the lock at a distance. She makes sure no-one else is close and sets to work.

After fiddling with the lock remotely for a few moments there is an audible click heard. The lock on the door has been picked and it's unlocked but the door is unopened.

Chandan

"Oh. Most impressive. Well done, Jaliera." Chanda says as the lock clicks open.

Now to open the door. He offers to do this himself.

"Stand back, my friends. Unless the miners left the key in the door when they abandoned the mine, whatever is behind this door has been here a very long time." He says.

And then he opens the door and pops his head around, using what light is available to see inside.

Dusty draperies adorn the walls of this room, which also contains a bed and brazier. A badly disheveled dwarf lies bound and unconscious on the cold stone floor.

he divides his 'attention' between the now unlocked and newly opened door and the corridor. If they decide to go through the door, he thinks they would be well served to lock it once they are through. He suggests that to the others as they head into the next room and he sees their 'goal' laying on the ground. Hopefully they are not too late!

[OOC: Nep, can she cast the spell as they move ahead? I see where it would take 10 minutes to cast - I'd forgotten about that.]

[ooc: I think that the spell is meant to be cast before a rest. With the unlocking of the door you just opened, the healing already done, etc. I think that pursuit is probably a very long-shot. I'll do the math tonight, but I believe that you're already 3 rounds past the end of the melee and he had a 2 round lead to start. It may no longer matter]

[That's only 30 seconds. We must be able to catch up with him in the wilderness, unless he has a quick travel spell, what do you reckon?]

Plus 10 minutes for the healing, so say 11 minutes and counting. Plus any time you spend on the dwarf you just found. Not like he has a 2 day head start, but it's not like he'd be in sight once you get outside either.

[The wilderness is big. 30 seconds is a long time but you've already spent more. If you don't do the healing, and don't try and wake and talk to the dwarf and you don't dawdle any further, you'll probably be 5 minutes behind. I reckon that you don't know where the drow is. He could be in the wilderness or somewhere else in this dungeon.]

[[ FWIW, used to do a lot of backpacking and ... 30 sec is =not= much of a lead in 'the wilderness'. 5 min, however, =is= another matter entirely ... for someone trying to 'disappear' <wink> ]]

[OOC This is assuming that he runs straight out and away. He may want to gether some supplies so our margin may be narrower. Plus we have an eagle eyed flying scout in Whisper so she might be able to see him on a fly around? And It he is not outside yet, we could wait him out or go back in after him! But Jaliera wants to help the dwarf first. ]
