DM

The party finds itself in the Forge of Spells, safe at the moment, with more to do. They need to decide if rest is needed or if they can continue onward.

OOC: Consider this a nudge to move forward.

Jaliera

She will sit down, the scroll in her hands, and read aloud the Find Familiar spell in order to cast it. She really wants Whisper back.

Chandan

"I will stand guard!" He says, and hobbles over to the door. Peeking out, he ponders their next move.

They have found the Forge of Spells---a happy chance, if not their goal---but no third dwarf. Nor have they found the Black Spider, though the bugbears were probably hers.

And the bugbears were eastbound when the party encountered them... as far as Chandan can tell in a mine.

So perhaps they came from the west side?

Chandan's confident no-one's been through this side in a long old time. Not with the fireball-spitting undead skull and lesser tentacled beholder still floating around.

DM
Jaliera reads the scroll and magic fills the air. Shortly there after, the spiritual owl appears and quickly rushes to land on her shoulder and snuggle up to Jaliera.

No trouble befalls the party as they take the short respite. It is quiet except for the constant booming sound that permeates these caverns. The sound has been louder here, in this corner of the complex.

OOC: I moved everyone into the Forge of Spells room and added Whisper. I'll need to fix her size but for now, let's roll with that. Also, you've cut an interesting swath through this dungeon, leaving large areas unexplored. Here's an overview. You're in the north east.

The cleric of Lathander moved over alongside the old monk and held the mace she'd obtained up where Chandan could see it.

"It is quite wonderful," she said reverently. "I can tell from its construction that it was designed and crafted for use by a cleric of the Morninglord."

Kriv

Bedecked in the Dragon-enchased armor, the Dragonborn sketched in the dust to plan their next move.

"So, where are we likely to find Gundren, and where our foe? We've found the Forge of Spells, so in theory we could fortify here and let them come to us, but I much prefer a proactive approach. So, here's our travels so far: Here are the paths we have not taken. Your thoughts?"

Davroar

With everyone looking to take a short break, he will do the same, shifting back to his human form. The short rest allows him the opportunity to recharge on his shape-shifting at the very least while waiting for Jaliera to re-summon Whisper.

With Kriv outlining their progress so far in the dust, he makes a circle in the air with his finger north of their current position and asks, "Where there is sound, there is movement, and a good chance of enemies there." He shrugs his shoulders and says, "If we end up meeting the Black Spider or his lackeys there and the booming sound stops that could signal to whatever else is down here something has happened. Maybe we should continue exploring the quiet areas?"

Chandan

"If Black Spider is looking for the Forge of Spells, she must have gotten distracted." He says.

Or her search is completely disorganised, relying dimwitted bugbears. Hmm.

Either way, Chandan likes Davroar's idea of following the sound. Curiosity naturally leads that way, it would be unlike any searchers to ignore it.

"Let's follow the sound to its source. It grabbed our attention, perhaps our enemy's too."

[Neptune, which way was the booming sound? North up the stairs?]

Jaliera

She is delighted to have her friend back and makes a fuss of the little creature. Still sitting, she notices Davroar change back to normal.

"Good to have you back."

She grins at him whilst stroking Whisper's plumage. Then she rises and goes to look at Kriv's drawing.

"As we have obviously missed our target, we need to make a more thorough search this time. Perhaps we should start in this room?"

Davroar

He returns a smile and says, "Nice to see you with Whisper again too, Jaliera, but you think we're missing stuff here?" The magical mace and breast plate are definitely good finds, but he thinks they all have done a reasonable search of this room already.

Since he has a little bit of time for the group to make a final decision on what to do, he will take out two of his backup daggers and carefully place one at a time into the green flame, much like Chandan did with his spear.

Chandan

He smiles at Ryssa's enthusiasm, and marvels at the bright, clear daylight it sheds.

"When you strike your foe, you can truly bid them good morning!"

Maybe, unbeknowest to them, this is the real reason for their quest!? To rediscover the Morninglord's mace, made and then abandoned before it could ever be put to use, all those years ago.

And what of Kriv's dragon breastplate? Another fateful match, and the dragonman looks very fine in it too.

Even Jaliera has found a scroll that can summon her beloved familiar back from the Planes.

Chandan takes a deep breath, very pleased.

"Yes, this way I think." He says, setting off to the north-east, quite pleased with his shiny reconditioned spearhead too.

He's almost tempted to hum a tune.

Jaliera

She smiles at Davroar, liking that they can talk again properly at least for a while.

"Yes it is good to have Whisper back, for company as well as for scouting. And I didn't mean in this structure, I meant the two ways out of the cavern that the structure is in."

She grins at him, her eyes shining as she makes ready to leave.

"Chandan, Whisper can fly ahead and see if there is any danger?"

Kriv

The Dragonborn waited for Chandan to take up his position in the vanguard, but glanced across at Jaliera as she made her questioning suggestion.

"A note of caution. Recall what happened with Whisper last time, and adjust accordingly to prevent something similar occurring should your familiar run into potential danger again."

<Bern>

He finds the noise worrisome and moves quietly to the corner of the building to take a look ... and keep an eye on Chandan.

Ryssa


Feeling almost like a young girl, Ryssa smiled at the elderly monk and nodded her agreement.

"I will be happy to bid them a happy morning if I have the chance," she said and then followed Chandan.

Jaliera

"Good advice Kriv. Maybe Whisper could fly just a little further ahead of the rest of us? I know Chandan tried very hard to get to her but the distance was too great."

She smiles at the monk, not really having thanked him before for his efforts as she'd been distraught.

Davraor

He replies to Jaliera's clarification on his misunderstanding with a wink and a dumb smirk on his face and says in a subdued voice, "Oh, right."

It looks like Chandan has picked to explore the north exit so he will then follow along while looking for any recent foot traffic going this way.

As Chandan approaches the steps to the north, the rhythmic booming sounds do get louder. It is dark and loud which makes it difficult for the human to perceive any dangers. Davroar is still trying to smack the cobwebs from his ears.

OOC: That means I would need a perception roll, at disadvantage, to perceive danger beyond where Chandan is. That means you roll perception twice and take the worst roll. On the other hand, Whisper's here and she can see in the dark. Obviously, if moving ahead means walking into the mouth of a dragon, she'll go poof again.

"Unless you two are in a hurry to die horribly, you might want to get back here until 'the group' is ready to head that way."

Kriv

After the Grick surprise, the Dragonborn was fully alert.
