DM The snake creatures are aggressive, having drawn blood they are ready to continue before any of the invaders had a chance to repel them. Most of their prey avoid harm except for Kriv, who had come to Ryssa's aid and had nearly killed the Grick with his maul. That monstrosity turns on Kriv and it's barbed tentacle finds a soft spot in the dragonborn's scales. It digs it's way into his bowels. Only then does it bites down on Kriv with those razor sharp teeth and is in a great deal of agony.
Jaliera, bow in hand, fires at the creepy crawly attacking the spiderman on the ceiling. Her arrows hit the Grick and it shrieks out in pain.
After the Grick Bern was attacking missed, he steps back to fire at it. Before he can let loose with an arrow, it lashes out at the ranger but he's to deft and avoids the attack. His recovery from the move plus the attack on him must've thrown off his aim as his arrows both miss.
Kriv's attack on the grick was during the surprise round. The gricks have initiative so they went twice in a row. Kriv takes 14 points of damage. We're up to Chandan and then Kriv goes again. The Roll20 map is up to date.
The dragon born gives a eyeball look of agreement with the other Dragonborn.
Seeing the battle ensue, he considers where to offer his aid.
16 Init Luminmorn Init Pandemonium rolled 1d20-1 and got 16 I see Init in the table, but didn't see a roll for him. I rolled it, but happy to use whatever is decided.
Dragonborn were made of sterner stuff than this. He was injured, yes, but it wasn't as bad as it had seemed at first glance. If anything, he was more indignant than hurt, that these creatures would have the temerity to try and feast upon him. He swung his maul with brutal effectiveness to end the one threatening himself and Ryssa, then strode forward to splatter the next nearest one for good measure.
Kriv Bonus action second wind AJ rolled 1d10+5 and got 7 Regain 7 HP Kriv maul Grick1 AJ rolled 1d20+6,1d6,1d6 and got 15, 6, 6 15 damage
Kriv extra attack maul grick2grick4 AJ rolled 1d20+6,1d6,1d6 and got 19, 6, 6 15 damage

OOC: I rolled a 12 for Lumi but we'll use your 16. That means you can go now.
AJ. Kriv can't reach Grick2 because it's on the ceiling. I changed it's color to indicate the difference. You can change your move and redirect your attack.
DM Kriv kills the grick that had attacked him and turns on the one that was facing off with Bern. I adjusted the initiative order. It's Lumi's turn. The Roll20 map is up to date.
His companions react swiftly and with admirable calm, and Chandan feels he is in good company.
A thrust of the spear, a side kick, a skip side kick! The monster may be a cave-crawling, tentacled abomination. It may think it knows 'disgusting'. But it has never met Chandan's feet.
[Chandan hits Grick 3 (I think) for 22 damage total]
OOC: You did! Foot loose and fancy free! I'll give Pande some time to get his move in - Additional note: I've got a busy day today, Saturday, so until my Sun morning... Ryssa and Davroar can go to. Why not?
DM Luminmorn, seeing Kriv and Ryssa battle one of the monstrosities, goes to help out Bern. He moves up and attacks but his ax misses the snakelike creature. Davroar resorts to the natural weapons of the giant spider and bites the critter that's up on the ceiling with him. He realizes that his bite has a difficult time penetrating the tough hide of the grick, but the poison seems very effective.
The party now realizes that physical attacks are not as effective as other types of damage against these monsters.
The Gricks now continue their attacks. One is near death and to survive, it realizes it musk kill the prey. It attacks Kriv with a tentacle and hits him and tries to draw him towards it's maw. It bites down but Kriv is able to avoid the razor sharp teeth.
Up on the ceiling, the grick tries to slam the elusive spider but the tentacle misses.
After getting hit by the Chandan, the grick he attack returns a favor. It slaps at him with one of its tentacles but misses the agile monk.
Luminmorn came forward to help Bern out but that also made him a target. The tentacle hits the dragonborn but the grick cannot clamp down on him for a bite.
I made a huge mistake and had to unwind things a bit. The Gricks are resistant go Bludgeoning, Piercing, And Slashing Damage From Nonmagical Weapons. That basically means that most of the damage you did on them was halved, rounding down. (Davroar's poison attack is full damage). I shifted Kriv's bonus attack from Grick 4 back to Grick 1, who isn't dead but is very close to death. I therefore moved Kriv back to where he was. Please ignore previous statuses. We go forward with this.
It was obvious now that his bow was not doing as much damage as it should. Problem is, he didn't have anything better to use. But that meant he had to re-think his targets where he could do the most good. Removing one of the Grick from the combat seemed the best plan and one of them looked pretty shaky. He lined up a shot at the one attacking Kriv and Ryssa. If he could finish it off, that would free them to help others.
Bern vs grick 1 MikeD rolled d20+8,d8+3 and got 25, 9
He continued to battle the monstrosity. His swing goes wide, though only because of bouncing of the creature's hide.
14 to hit, if it hits 15 dmg. Not sure why the last post talked about using a battle axe, and needing magical weapons. Talon has been Lumi's magical sword (+!) and in use for a while now. FYI. Using magical weapon Luminmorn Att, Dmg Pandemonium rolled 1d20+7,1d8+7 and got 14, 15
Bern sees the nearly dead grick attack Kriv and realizes that it's a danger that must be removed. His arrow zooms towards the target and lands squarly in it's mouth, knocking it away, dead. Bern was able to do that only because Luminmorn engaged the grick that had tried to kill Bern. Luminmorn had missed it before, but now his ax strikes true. The blow did not do the damage intended but still, it did some.
ooc: Nice roll Mike! Pande, It's AC is 14 you hit. As I said, damage is halved, rounding down. So 7 points of damage. It's resistant. (Note: Lumi's Ax is +1 so it did FULL damage!) This That's the first damage that it took. I inadvertently skipped Jaliera so she goes. There are lots of targets left! And to answer the obvious question, yes, the sneak attack bonus is halved too. Add the 2 damages together, then halve them.

It's a good question. 5e, at least as it started, is notoriously "low magic". I can honestly say that you all missed a bunch of stuff. But note that you're 5th level and according to the module should be 4th (Zeim and I were gracious like that).
And you're not done. Maybe there's a magic item or two in the Wave Echo Cave that you haven't found!
Update: There is one magic weapon in the party. Luminmorn has the Ax found in the dragon (that roasted Lingo) hoard. It's +1. I'll need to go back and adjust some damage.
