Her eyes widen as two at the front start to seize up. They could be eaten alive! She needs to do something. Her brain is working overtime is her near panic. Then she remembers.
The fireball scroll. If a time is better suited to use it, she can think of one. She draws it out of her pack, sights a good place to centre it where she will not catch Davroar or those at the front and she reads it out in a clear voice, focusing on the stop she had worked out. Her fingers on her left hand are crossed for luck, her bow is still in her right hand.
[OOC: Sorry, Neptune, I was thinking about earlier editions than 5e, I suppose, where a cleric gets more turns per day. Could she use her Protection From Poison to neutralize the poison afflicting one of her poisoned companions? Or perhaps use the Prayer of Healing to restore HPs to up to 6 of them?]
DM Jaliera, sensing the desperate shape that the party, with three of their best warriors paralyzed, was in. She unfurled the scroll she had tucked away and read the arcane runes that started to shimmer before a massive fireball erupted around most of the ghouls.
When the smoke cleared, there were only two that remained active. The others laid on the ground in smoldering heaps.
OOC: First, no apologies needed for the extra turning. If anything, it's my mistake allowing you to do that.
No to protection from poison. It's not poison. Prayer of healing, after the fact, will be useful for restoring HPs but will not remove paralysis.
I did add an indicator to the tokens if they were turned. I also identified whether they were turned in the status.
In the new graphic I show where the fireball was placed.
Jaliera Fireball damage Neptune rolled 8d6 and got 25
G4,G5, G8, G9, G10, G12, G13 Dex save, DC 13 vs Fireball Neptune rolled 1d20+2,1d20+2,1d20+2,1d20+2,1d20+2,1d20+2,1d20+2 and got 21, 20, 3, 12, 9, 12, 14 (G4 & G5 saved and take half damage but G5 was already injusted.
[[ I think I see where I got confused. Looking at the graphic (because it is easier for me to 'see' the settup) with the ghouls pretty close together ... I confused who was turned and who was not. I will be looking more closely at the list from here on out <g> ]]
Bern Con save (well fail <sigh>) again MikeD rolled d20+3 and got 6
One of the ghouls was much too close even after the majority had been crisped by the fireball. Concentrating on the one (G3) beside Bern, Ryssa cast a minor spell of flame on it.
DM Ryssa tries to immolate the nearest ghoul with holy fire, but it turns away at just the right moment and avoids harm. Luminmorn regains control of his body while Kriv does not. G3 Dex save Neptune rolled 1d20+2 and got 21
BTW, The spell's damage increases by 1d8 when you reach 5th level (2d8), 11th level (3d8), and 17th level (4d8). No need for the extra d8, the ghoul avoids all damage.
DM Chandan sees a ghoul that survived the fireball. It does not survive the monk's flurry of blows. OOC: Davroar goes. The only ghoul that you see standing is G4. Another ghoul is turned. He fled west.
[ooc: I once had a PC named Pyrex in a game being run here. He was an evoker that specialized in fire spells. He had a ring of fire resistance which made him immune to fire damage and his favorite tactic was to run into a crowd of enemies and cast fireball on himself.]
DM The last remaining visible ghoul is immobilized and because of that, he cannot attack. All it can do is try and break out of the web, but that turns out to be a futile effort.
G4 Break out of web DC 12 Neptune rolled 1d20+3 and got 7
Jaliera goes. Roll to hit with advantage. Sneak attack bonus applies.
She smiles at the spider creature on the ceiling. Davroar had used a clever strategy to help and kept himself out of their reach. But they need to kill this last one.. no, next to the last as she remembers one fleeing. So she sights her bow once again and fires her arrow. The arrow flies straight and true. It is a good shot.
DM After Jaliera puts an arrow into the head of the last ghoul standing, there are still three members of the party that are paralyzed but they know that the paralysis will wear off quickly. Indeed, after a few moments Luminmorn, Kriv and Bern start to move as they shake off the necrotic effect.
Now they have a choice to make. They know that these halls are patrolled by undead. They have used many of their powers to survive and are now depleted. Do they move forward now or do they take the time to rest and heal?
He was =finally= able to move again. It had seemed like forever! Luckily they had managed to finish off the immediate threat. But at what a cost.
"I would bet that there are more of those ghouls out there ... probably other nasties as well. My suggestion is that we 'rest up' some before we continue on. There was that room back a ways ... unused, easily defended."
He agrees to take a rest too to heal up, especially when it seems they might run into more undead. While remaining in his spider form, he will start to web over the hallway entrance to this large room to show his willingness to return to the safe room for a rest.
While it may not be a picture perfect web that a true spider might do, it will hopefully dissuade or at least slow up anything that decides to come this way.
"Yes resting up is a good option. A number of us are hurt and given the numbers of creatures wandering here, we need to be in better shape to move forward."
The Dragonborn was not in the best of moods, but the scavengers had been denied their unwarranted free meals, and it made sense for the group to get themselves back in order.
