Under different circumstances, he might have remained there to drink another mug or two. But he had business in the morning and they would be traveling after that.
He made his way up to the room and went to sleep.

Sildar had been at the Stonehill Inn celebrating the return of Gundren but was glad to see the dragonborn come to the townmaster's hall. Harbin Webster, the old and wimpy townmaster was there, working as a clerk for Sildar.
"Take the rest of the day off Harbin. I need to talk to Kriv."
Harbin bows and backs out of the building, now a shamed man.
"He's not a terrible person, but he is a coward," Sildar said to Kriv. "How are you, Cloak Kriv."
Cloak was the title that Sildar had bestowed upon Kriv, a member of the Lord's Alliance.
"Perhaps it's time we bestowed a new title upon you, Redknife Kriv. You've earned it and perhaps even more. But our work is not done. While Gundren's rescue was a good start, what we learned from him is worrisome." | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 27,612 Moderator | Moderator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 27,612 | Kriv
"In general, we prosper, Townmaster. Since joining up with our new associates at Thundertree, our success largely speaks for itself.
He acknowledged the promotion with a nod: As Sildar continued to the meat of the matter, he listened.
"Mm. If either of his brothers broke under the Spider's ministrations, it could give the enemies of civilisation a significant head start, to say nothing of the detrimental effect on their own existence once they outlived their usefulness. Is there salient information to which I am not yet privy?" | | | | Joined: Jun 2002 Posts: 10,292 Administrator | Administrator Joined: Jun 2002 Posts: 10,292 | Davroar
He lets out a short laugh at Jaliera's wry comment about the poor condition of his armour and says, "Right, I'll try not to... anyways, yes let's get Chandan up to his own room."
Being as gentle as he can he will hoist the old man fire man style across his shoulders with Jaliera's help, and will then say a good night to everyone. | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 76,500 Likes: 57 Wizop Administrator | Wizop Administrator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 76,500 Likes: 57 | Jaliera
She too says goodnight to everyone and then moves away with Davroar, helping to guide Chandan's arms and legs through doorways, trying to make sure he doesn't get any bruises. He had fought bravely she remembers, at one point holding his own when guarding that door which had attackers behind it. She smiles softly. He might be a bit odd and likes his drink but his heart is in the right place. | | | | Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 46,267 Member | Member Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 46,267 | Ryssa
Taking her leave from her companions, Ryssa made her way upstairs to the room which had been designated for her. She cleaned her armor and shield, taking especial care with the buffing of her icon of Lathander.
I'll need arrows... she reminded herself.
She disrobed and lay down on the cot and prepared herself for sleep. She would need to arise early to handle her morning devotionals. | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 17,972 Likes: 1 Moderator | OP Moderator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 17,972 Likes: 1 | Sildar - with Kriv"Perhaps. We looked into the information about this cave, the Wave Echo Cave. It seems that everything does point there. Inaro Albrek, or Glasstaff as he was so dubbed by his Redbrand lackeys) spoke of what the Spider was seeking . It was called the Forge of Spells. That is what worries me most. That is what I fear the Spider wants. That, I believe is why the Wave Echo Cave is so important. And if the Lost Mines of Phandelver are there too. Then ... well, it seems obvious. If the Spider is still putting up a battle, then he hasn't found the Forge of Spells. There are troubles brewing in Faerun that are perilous. A great war with a cult of dragons may be before us. If a place such as the Forge fell into the hands of our enemies, then it would indeed put civilization at risk." | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 27,612 Moderator | Moderator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 27,612 | Kriv
He offered a human-style nod, and commented,
"Then the protocol seems obvious. Now that we have the map, head straight for the Wave Echo Cave, take and hold if we can, else assault it if the enemy have already reached it. If the Spider still has the Rockseeker brothers in tow, attempt to rescue or retrieve their remains." | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 17,972 Likes: 1 Moderator | OP Moderator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 17,972 Likes: 1 | DM
Sildar nods affirmatively, there being a clear understanding between him and Kriv. "Aye. Don’t wait for the enemy to come to you. The best defense is a strong offense." The phrase was one of the three tenets of the Lord's Alliance.
There was no need for further conversation and Kriv was soon on his way back to the Inn for a well deserved rest.

Morning comes and everyone is fully rested. After a long day before, the party deserved a peaceful night. The rooster's calls were just the first noises that were heard. Soon those were replaced by the sounds of folks starting their days and carts being pulled over cobblestone streets. Those who might be inclined to hide from the new day under the covers, were tempted by the smells from breakfast that wafted through the Inn. First it was the fresh-baked breads, then it was the aroma of bacon and sausages that filled the air.
Gundren was already downstairs at a table. | | | | Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 46,267 Member | Member Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 46,267 | Ryssa
Having slept soundly, Ryssa was up early and completed her morning ablutions and devotional. She dressed and packed her small incidentals before heading downstairs, drawn by the smell of baking and frying of tasty comestibles.
She sat at the table and greeted Gundren. | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 76,500 Likes: 57 Wizop Administrator | Wizop Administrator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 76,500 Likes: 57 | Jaliera
Perhaps it was the enticing scents from downstairs that her stomach responded to first but she is soon awake and eager to get breakfast. It will be so nice to have hot food served in comfort and warmth, something she has missed in the days they were away. She washes and dresses, packs her things and then goes to knock first on Davroar's doo and then Chadan's to see if they are awake. She wouldn't want them to miss breakfast! | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 27,612 Moderator | Moderator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 27,612 | Kriv
He rose early and packed swiftly: Time was of the essence, and if that meant having their more hung-over hangers-on playing catch-up then so be it. He descended, and headed towards Gundren. | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 13,063 Likes: 9 Wobbly Headed Administrator | Wobbly Headed Administrator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 13,063 Likes: 9 | Chandan
He lies slumped over the table in the common room, facedown, his tangled hair piled around him along with several empty cider flagons.
Hearing Jaliera calling his name upstairs, he sits bolt upright, groans and falls off the back of his stool.
"Here!" He croaks.
Still groaning, Chandan crawls onto his seat. He sees Ryssa and Gundren at the table and gives then a feeble wave in greeting. Then pours himself a cup of cider. | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 42,121 Likes: 5 Member | Member Joined: May 2000 Posts: 42,121 Likes: 5 | <Bern>
The smell of food was enough to rouse him from the warmth of his bed. He heads down and joins the others. He smiled and nodded greeting to each and sat.
"I need to get arrows. Anyone else need some", he asked. "No reason for several of us going for a job one can do."

The cleric returned the elderly monk's greeting with a smile and a wave of her own.
"Chandan, you look like you could benefit from a tonic if not from the healing balm of a blessing from my Lord Lathaner."
Ryssa turned to greet the ranger.
"Arrows? Yes, I am in need of some." | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 27,612 Moderator | Moderator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 27,612 | Kriv
He looked approvingly to Bern, commenting,
"A good idea. I need none myself, but check with Jaliera before you depart." | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 42,121 Likes: 5 Member | Member Joined: May 2000 Posts: 42,121 Likes: 5 | <Bern>
He smiled as he acknowledged Ryssa's arrow request.
"I will check", he said to Kriv.

He rose with the dawn. The rays of the sun were a gift from the Great Dragon. He gave his prayers and offering to his patron. Soon he was done and though sleeping in the bed was good, he missed the fresh smells of the outdoors.
He made his way down to join the others and Gundren. He was not wearing his armor, as he intended to make time to have it repaired. If he had to, he could take the materials and fix it himself.
Breakfast that he didn't have to cook himself was more of a spoilage than even the bed was last night. | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 17,972 Likes: 1 Moderator | OP Moderator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 17,972 Likes: 1 | DM As the seats at the table filled up, Gundren sat fidgeting. Eventually, he spoke up.
"I'm already in your debt, but I am at a loss for what to do. It's my brothers, and the mine. I am not a fighter and I need to hire heroes. You're the only one's I know. I've thought a lot about it, but I need your help. I'm willing to pay." | | | | Joined: Jun 2002 Posts: 10,292 Administrator | Administrator Joined: Jun 2002 Posts: 10,292 | Davroar
He is up just before sunrise and will accompany Jaliera down to the common room when she knocks on his door. He waves a good morning to all that are seated before him and takes a seat. | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 13,063 Likes: 9 Wobbly Headed Administrator | Wobbly Headed Administrator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 13,063 Likes: 9 | Chandan
He smiles amiably to each of his companions as they arrive at the table, and bows his head respectfully to Ryssa's suggestion.
"Your Lord is wonderful and kind, I toast to him and you!" He says.
Everyone seems to be talking breakfast though, and truthfully Chandan isn't sure what time it is. The light from outside does suggest day-time.
The cooking smells from the kitchen make his stomach rumble, but he feels a sense of urgency, from their charge, Gundren, and from Kriv Norixius too. Bern has already headed out into Phandelin to obtain more arrows, and so it seems the party have made up their mind.
"I am not a hero but I help you anyway, Gundren. I think we all help you.
"No need to pay me." | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 27,612 Moderator | Moderator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 27,612 | Kriv

She gets down to the common room and sends a mental command to Whisper that she will be outside before too long. Then she orders a big breakfast. She has been looking forward to this for a while.
Smiling at everyone, especially Davroar, she says to Bern.
"Yes please I would like arrows too, at least a score. Do you want the money now?"
And then adding her pledge to Gundren.
"My mentor, Randal Stagg, counts you as a friend Gundren. I feel he would want me to help you and so I am happy to join your cause." | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 42,121 Likes: 5 Member | Member Joined: May 2000 Posts: 42,121 Likes: 5 | <Bern>
"We can sort that out later. For one thing, I have no idea what they will cost yet", he said with a wink and a grin.
Having finished his meal ... and having the orders for arrows, he stood. "I will be back in a bit", he said. Then turned and left in search of arrows.

He sees Bern stand and says "I will accompany you. I at least need to get materials to fix my armor if we will not take the time to have it done." He tosses his last sausage into his maw and moves after the ranger. | | |
