Jaliera

Her opportunity arrives. Unable to see through the door clearly she moves sideways to get line of sight on Hobgoblin 5 and looses an arrow in his direction.

Miked - think of it more like move and 'search' versus move and attack. "Look" would be your Passive perception. So you are replacing the two seconds you use to attack with two seconds of more detailed looking. Remember, your entire turn, moving up to 30 feet, attacking, plus any bonus actions, talking, or glances (passive perception) takes no more than 6 seconds.

Bern fires and misses, as does Luminmorn with his sword attack on the remaining Hobgoblin. A pattern is emerging as Davroar rams the Flaming Sphere into the Owlbear, which is able to dodge out of the way and Jaliera fires an arrow at the Hobgoblin, which just deflects of it's armour. Jaliera then hides behind some nearby rubble.

Ryssa moves up and Readies another healing spell, just in case the enemies are not as unlucky as the pcs this round.

Chandan

Assessing his wounds in the midst of battle isn't possible. The monk's entire focus is on avoiding any further injury.

But Chandan knows when he's hurt, so he also knows when he's healed. He doesn't stand alone against the owlbear then, Ryssa is nearby, supporting him with her divine magic.

Dodging the owlbear's claws as best he can, Chandan aims a two-fingered strike at the monster's throat. If he can collapse its windpipe, there will be no breath to fuel its fury...

And with the owlbear despatched, he could close in on the elusive goblin!

[Chandan hits for 13 damage total]

No sign of the last Goblin. Trusting the other Dragonborn to finish the Hob, he advanced for a fresh angle. He refreshed the incantation for his firebolt, ready to torch it.

Overwatch duty again. Trigger, an enemy emerges from hiding, preferably before they get a chance to strike.

Chandan, refreshed by Ryssa's healing once more, steps up and drives his fingers into the Owlbear's throat, crushing it's windpipe and dropping it to the floor like a stone.

The Hobgoblin facing Luminmorn strikes at him once again with it's sword, and scores a solid hit on the dragonborn's side.

Hobgoblin5 Attack Luminmorn
Zeim rolled d20+3,d8+1 and got 22, 6

The Goblin, now seeing itself all alone facing 5 foes and a ball of flame that seems to follow it around attempts to flee.

Kriv sees it come out of hiding and fires a Firebolt at it, but it sails wide.

Chandan has a chance for an Attack of Opportunity as the Goblin runs past him trying to run to the north, behind the curtain.

Note: Davroar's Flaming Sphere has 4 round left. Also note that if Chandan doesn't move away from the Sphere on his turn he will take damage from it. That is not now, but on his turn. Now it is just an OA.

After Chandan makes his OA, Bern is back up.

Chandan

The goblin rushing out passed him takes Chandan by surprise, but with a yelp and flailing backwards, he somehow aims a kick under its chin.

(OOC - MikeD - It's not a door, it's a curtain. As a curtain does, it swings closed as people pass thru it. If you want to see what's on the other side you have to pass thru it or destroy it in some manner.)

Chandan lands a solid blow to the fleeing Goblin, but not enough to kill it. It passes thru the curtain to the other side.

Bern, Luminmorn, and Davroar are up.

You can't attack him unless you run thru the curtain yourself. He has "Total Cover". It is the same as if he was hidden:

Code:
Cover
Walls, trees, creatures, and other obstacles can provide cover during combat, making a target more difficult to harm. A target can benefit from cover only when an attack or other effect originates on the opposite side of the cover.
There are three degrees of cover. If a target is behind multiple sources of cover, only the most protective degree of cover applies; the degrees aren't added together. For example, if a target is behind a creature that gives half cover and a tree trunk that gives three-quarters cover, the target has three-quarters cover.
A target with half cover has a +2 bonus to AC and Dexterity saving throws. A target has half cover if an obstacle blocks at least half of its body. The obstacle might be a low wall, a large piece of furniture, a narrow tree trunk, or a creature, whether that creature is an enemy or a friend.
A target with three-quarters cover has a +5 bonus to AC and Dexterity saving throws. A target has three-quarters cover if about three-quarters of it is covered by an obstacle. The obstacle might be a portcullis, an arrow slit, or a thick tree trunk.
A target with total cover can't be targeted directly by an attack or a spell, although some spells can reach such a target by including it in an area of effect. A target has total cover if it is completely concealed by an obstacle.

Yes (and this is true in real life as well). But even if you could, the main issue is you have no target.

[[ OK, sorry ... maybe I am trying to make it too 'theatrical', but ...

a few seconds ago I see a gob run through a curtain, and with no indication of a better target (unless I have an idea about Hob-5), it seems like =my= best action is 'fire and move' (as in chase after). So ... do you want me to roll 'something'? do you wanna 'sort it' on your own? Just lemme know <weg> ]]

Your best action (presuming you want to chase) is to move then fire. IOW charge after the Goblin, thru the curtain, and then shoot at him once you can see him. If you want to do that move yourself to the other side of the curtain and make an attack roll.

Note that you will be out of view of the party once you do that (just like the Goblin is), but unless you're willing to take the risk of charging ahead you don't get the reward of a chance to attack.

Bern chases after the fleeing Goblin and pushes thru the thick cloth curtain. Spying the Goblin moving towards an open door in the west, which Bern believes would lead back toward the main hall, he buries an arrow in the Goblin, killing it.

Pausing to take stock, Bern can hear arguing coming from behind a closed door to the east.

Luminmorn and Davroar are up.

Davroar - Ghosted for Dugan who I believe is away

Davroar, seeing no further foes, and not wanting to rush headlong thu the curtain into an unknown situation, can still hear Luminmorn fighting in the other room. So he moves to that area, until he has a sight-line to the Hobgoblin fighting the Dragonborn, and he brings the Flaming Sphere with him.

(Note: 3 round left for the Sphere.)
