"I agree that we cannot knowingly leave any creatures behind us. Too much of a risk. I think we may be committed to fighting our way through this, though if we run out of healing we may have to withdraw and come back later, the numbers at least will be depleted. It might be an idea to talk about a treasure chest that we are after. If our employer is still alive, we don't want them to kill him as we get closer."

She glances at Davroar with a small smile.

"I think Davroar's plan is as good as any other. A couple of us with missile weapons or spells should provide back up initially as there are other ways and doors that need covering. Does anyone have a spell or cantrip that can blow smoke?"

As for being ready, he is a little hesitant after being ambushed by several goblin arrows from the last fight with them.

"And I feel I can do one more flame spell when my second one runs out."

He would rather try to save his energy for later on, but he will do whatever it takes to get rid of these goblins.

He moved up so he could cover both doors and the hall north.

When it looked like everyone was ready, he slung his bow and nodded to Kriv so they could hit the door together. Two shoulders were better than one.

With a grin, he did his 1...2...3 and they hit the door.

Bern open door w/ advantage MikeD rolled d20+4,d20+4 and got 18, 17

OK, to start with:

1 - Bern's attempt to break open the door, assisted by Luminmorn, is successful. So, MikeD, please move your pc back from the door way (Luminmorn is already away from it). You need to provide at least 5' of space for the Sphere to pass thru the doorway.

2 - Davroar casts his Flaming Sphere. Dugan - I have created an icon for the sphere and given you control of it in Roll20, so please move it to where you want it. If you want to move it along a path just give me the details.

Once Bern has moved out of the way, and Davroar has placed the sphere where he wants it, we will begin the melee with Ryssa's turn.

Here is the initiative order. Note as I mentioned, I've adjusted your rolls to account for everyone waiting for Bern, Luminmorn, and Davroar's actions). You all go first, followed by the enemy. At this point you can see three Hobgoblins in the room beyond the now opened door.:

The cleric smiled and nodded when the door crashed inward and the flaming sphere moved beyond sight into the room.

She thought for a moment, then slung her shield on her back, drew her shortbow and nocked an arrow, aiming at the door and ready to fire the moment a goblin or other adversary appeared.

Just as soon as Bern and Luminmorn reach a safe distance from the smashed in door, he will cast his flame sphere spell. Making it appear right where the door was, he will advance it five feet east and then five feet north.

OK, I moved the sphere. You could do so yourself, Dugan, btw. I gave you access. I just needed to know the path in case it rolls over anything on the way.....

I will start the round later today. Am heading out for a while now. We'll start with the door breaking and Davroar's sending in the sphere.

Ex - Ryssa will go once I post the sitrep. As we've seen earlier, in 5e there is no "Delay" action. If you don't want to act on your turn then either you give up your turn (or take a partial turn, like only moving, and give up the rest), or you take the "Ready" Action. A Ready action requires you to state what the action will be and what the specific trigger for it is. When the trigger occurs the action comes off. If the trigger never occurs, the action is forfeited when you turn comes back around.........

Melee Start.....

Bern and Luminmorn get ready together, "One,....Two,...., THREE!" Both putting their shoulders into it the door bursts open. The two men, knowing the plan, make haste to move back out of the way as Davroar quickly cast his spell and a 5' Sphere of writhing flames appears just outside the door. He moves up so he can see into the room and rolls the Sphere forward. (Dugan - I moved Davroar so he has LOS (Line of Sight) into the room.)

Other than Davroar, only Bern and Jaliera can see inside the room, the others view is blocked by rubble or they are around corners.

Bern, Jaliera, and Davroar, once he takes his eyes off the spell, can see three goblinoid creatures. However these appear larger and stronger than the Goblins you fought earlier. They wear chain mail and shield and carry longswords and longbows. Hobgoblins!

A stone brazier full of coals glows in the middle of this small room, which is apparently a barracks. The light from the brazier is overwhelmed by the light from the Flaming Sphere that rolls into the room.

Four straw pallets are lined up along the east wall. Your view does not extend to the south, but to the north a curtain hangs in an archway.

Davroar rolls his sphere forward into the room, and directly on top of one of the Hobgoblins......

Hobgoblin1 Dex Save
Zeim rolled d20+1 and got 11

That Hobgoblin is unable to dodge out of the way (Dugan - I need you to roll 2d6 damage for the spell to the Hobgoblin).

Exeter, as it is Ryssa's turn now I will let you take your turn or keep your Ready Action and wait. From where Ryssa stands now she has no line-of-sight (LOS) to any of the Hobgoblins. She would need to move up about 5 squares, roughly parallel with the bashed in door, to get a shot.

After Ryssa, the rest can go in order (except Bern, Luminmorn, and Davroar).

For a change the plan worked well. Davroar is doing a splendid job. Whisper is watching their backs by keeping an eye on the west door. She was keeping watch up the corridor but as she had hoped, she has a line of sight into the room and can see hobgoblins.

Her arrow is ready. She lets fly.

Moving up to get a better look into the room so as to roll his flame sphere inside, his flame sphere rolls right into one of the hobgolins. He announces to the others that do not have a good look in, "I got one! There's two other big goblins still standing..."

[ooc: would the other two goblins would also have to roll to avoid the sphere being within 5 feet of its path? ]

(OOC - No. Here is the spell description:

A 5-foot-diameter sphere of fire appears in an unoccupied space of your choice within range and lasts for the duration. Any creature that ends its turn within 5 feet of the sphere must make a Dexterity saving throw. The creature takes 2d6 fire damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.

As a bonus action, you can move the sphere up to 30 feet. If you ram the sphere into a creature, that creature must make the saving throw against the sphere’s damage, and the sphere stops moving this turn.


So only the creature you "ram" it into has to make a save or take damage. Anyone else only has to make a save if they End their turn within 5' of the sphere. They haven't gone yet.

Still need Exeter to go for Ryssa as explained above.)
