Chandan

Bern, Davroar and Kriv were being targeted by these misfecked goblinoids and Chandan's tactics in such situations are generally straightforward.

He attacks... straightforwardly, his dark eyes wary for any arrows coming his or Jaliera's way.

[Chandan misses with spear attack.
Will react to deflect incoming missiles, rolled 13 total
If missile damage is less than 13, Chandan will catch and throw as reaction attack, rolled 21 to hit, 6 damage]

[OOC I can't move the triangle but I figure that moving it about 3 diagonals towards the goblins will cover the two furthest into the room, thanks!]

[ooc: Gypsy. You should be able to, but we can talk it through. The spell originates from your hands, so to move it 3 diagonals towards the goblins, Jaliera must enter the room, which she can do but exposes her. And don't forget you familiar!

Note that I will certainly allow you to change your action if that's not what you want to do.

Update: Gypsy, I modified the cone to now be a token, which can move, and gave you control. Let me know if you run into trouble. I also just added a couple of move options, if you still want to use the spell. And, of course, you know that you can't see all the goblins.

[OOC Whisper was sent out of the way a few posts back. Hadn't realised the range was so close, sure it used to be a cast ahead spell.. of well.. instead I will change and fire an arrow.]

Jaliera Arrow
Gypsy rolled 1d20+5,1d6+3 and got 16, 9

[OOC Ha! One for Davroar]

With a comrade down, the seriousness of this encounter is apparent and the party rallies and starts to mow down goblins. Jaliera fires an arrow over Chandan's shoulder and kills one. A almost the same moment, Bern's arrow crosses path with Jaliera's arrow and severely wounds another.

OOC: Gypsy, don't forget to stealth away so that you have a chance to get sneak damage with your arrows next round!
Next up: Luminmorn, Ryssa and then Kriv before the goblins go.

Ryssa

The cleric of Lathander, unconcerned with her own danger, crawled up alongside the unconscious Davroar and did her best to stabilize the man's condition before casting a spell to help cure his wounds.

Kriv

Mindful of the sneaky nature of the foe, Kriv patiently faced the door, muttering a quiet phrase of Draconic, arcane power coalescing around his outstretched fingers.

Holding action.
Trigger: the door through which the Goblins fired opens.
Action: Cast a spell.
If it is possible to reach past the door with Burning hands from Kriv's current position, then burning hands into the room past the goblins.
If it is not possible to reach past the door with Burning hands from Kriv's current position, Firebolt targeting the nearest goblin visible past the freshly opened door.

OOC: Gypsy, With the door flying open like that, I'm not giving you sneak damage for this past round.

Dugan, Davroar is up, has 10 HP now. He's prone so he needs to stand (equal to 1/2 your move = 3). While prone...

  • A prone creature’s only movement option is to crawl, unless it stands up and thereby ends the condition.
  • The creature has disadvantage on attack rolls.
  • An attack roll against the creature has advantage if the attacker is within 5 feet of the creature. Otherwise, the attack roll has disadvantage.

Pande, I need Luminmorn's action. He never got to use his readied action as the trigger never materialized.

Here's the status as I know it.
Code:
         Init AC MaxHP Dam
Code:
Ryssa 21 - 16/18* 33 0
Kriv 20 - 16 26 7
Goblins 19 - 15 7 0
Chandan 16 - 17 31 0
Davroar 15 - 12 28 18 Prone
Jaliera 11 - 14 23 0
Bern 8 - 15 40 0
Luminmorn 2 - 18 34 0

Luminmorn

He realized he wasn't going to get the opportunity he had intended. So he moved and taking aim with attack the goblin with his Eldritch blast.

15 to hit, 4 damage
Goblin 9
Luminorn Attack, damage
Pandemonium rolled 1d20,1d10 and got 15, 4

[OOC: I didn't get an answer to my OOC question. Is the door that opened was the one in front of Jaliera. I was contemplating using that door for Luminmorn to attack. Posted without the results. :)]

Davroar

Glad to be alive with Ryssa's help, he will start to crawl back through the door he came through to find some cover so that he can deal with the arrows still stuck in him.

OOC: Sorry about that Pande, I missed the question previously. Yes. Chandan opened the door in front of Jaliera so you definitely were able to shoot goblin-9.

Dugan, nice try, but it's not your turn. Goblins go before you get to act <weg>.

AJ, Not sure what you're trying to do. It sounds like you readied an action (burning hands). The door is shut. Unless you give up the readied action, you simply must wait on the door to open to act. Otherwise, if you firebolt a goblin, that's your action and you can't ready an action.

To clarify:

Readying an action with the trigger of the door opening. Since I presume I can't move when I do so, the spell I choose to ready depends upon what will reach or not. If Burning hands is capable of reaching beyond the door from Kriv's present position, then that is what gets readied. If it isn't, then defaulting to Firebolt.

(OOC - AJ - I think you would need to use Firebolt. The way "Ready an Action" works is that you cast the spell on your turn and then "hold" onto it, only releasing it when the trigger occurs. So you can't decide on the fly which spell to cast, and if you cast Burning Hands and then the situation sets up so the targets were out of range, you'd lose the spell for nothing.)

(I'm not deciding on the fly, I'm wondering how far 15 feet goes on the diagonal in this edition, then making a final call based on that prior to anything that might set it off.)

Ah. On the Roll20 Map each square is 5', and you don't account for hypotenuse so 3 squares in any direction is 15'.

AJ: You would need to walk up to the door but from there, you'll torch everything inside. So, why don't you place yourself and after that I'll go for the goblins. Note that your actions would be to move and ready. Then when the trigger occurs, your spell goes off.

Dugan: I moved Davroar back to where he was when he went down. It's not your turn yet. We can't have you escape the line of fire so easily.

They came out of every nook and cranny, the slimy goblins seem to multiply as they attack. It's obvious that they are good at hiding and they jumped on every opportunity to gain advantage.

Kriv thought he was smart by moving in front of the door to the tower, but there was a goblin hiding in the bed and with his back now turned to the goblin, it struck him with it's short sword and the blade found flesh (3 pts dam).

Yes, the door opened. Yes, there were two goblins inside. Yes, they fired arrows at Kriv. No, they both missed. That's when Kriv unleashed his fiery vengeance upon them and roasted the pair, showing no mercy!

Chandan opened the other door to the dining hall, the one from the entry foyer, and with the door now open, others like Luminmorn and Jaliera were able to strike at the goblins. But what he didn't realize is that there was a goblin hiding right beside the door and it was ready to attack and did so with advantage, coming out from hiding. Chandan's eyes were focused on a different goblin that had been hiding. This one was bigger, stronger and smellier than all the others and it charged the monk with a sword in his hands, screaming some goblin war cry as it sliced through the monk's garb.(Chandan takes a total of 10 damage).

Bern the brave came out in the open to draw fire away from Davroar and became a target for more goblins than he bargained for. Five of them now fired arrows from behind the cover of the tables. He gets lucky and is only hit by two of the arrows. (Bern takes a total of 6 damage). Naturally, as soon as these goblins fire their arrows, most run for cover and try to hide again and soon the room seems empty again, but the heroes know better!

The screenshot attached depicts all of the goblins before they hide.
Goblin11, Goblin12 Attack Kriv

This hits - 3 dam

Goblin3 attacks Chandan with advantage

This hits - 5 dam

Goblin Leader Attacks Chandan
Neptune rolled 1d20+4,1d6+2 and got 22, 5

Goblins 5,7,8,9,10 Attack Bern with arrows
Neptune rolled 1d20+4,1d6+2,1d20+4,1d6+2,1d20+4,1d6+2,1d20+4,1d6+2,1d20+4,1d6+2 and got 15, 3, 5, 7, 9, 7, 22, 3, 7, 3
2 hits - 6 dam

Goblins 3,5,7,8,9,10 Hide (stealth)
Neptune rolled 1d20+6,1d20+6,1d20+6,1d20+6,1d20+6,1d20+6 and got 16, 24, 24, 23, 16, 20

The best passive perception in the party is 15 so these 6 are hidden from view.

OOC: I tidied up the map on Roll20 a bit so all doors and walls are visible. The only thing you can't see are the little buggers.

Jaliera

So these goblins shoot and hide? A good tactic and one she intends to use also. Moving back out of sight, she watches for any arrows coming their way as a signal of when to strike. She also reminds Whisper to stay out of sight but to watch their backs in case any enemies come up behind them.

For when she gets to attack:

Jaliera Arrow
Gypsy rolled 1d20+5,1d6+3 and got 14, 8
