DM This tower has almost completely collapsed, although the ground floor still has a little open space. Rotting crates and ancient barrels show that provisions were once stored here. Davroar peaks behind the heavy curtain which blocks a crumbling area to the south, and an intact door leads east. To the north , a short passage through the rubble ends before a screen of canvas.
Keeping Bern's last words to him in mind, he will begin his return to the group after seeing that there is no immediate guards by this camouflaged entrance. Taking a circuitous route back, he will remain in animal form for now and will get the nearest persons attention with a small tug on their pants cuff.
He can not talk in his animal form but at least he is fairly dexterous as a weasel enough to draw. Finding a clear spot on the ground he will use his claws to draw a crude map of the section where he found the hidden entrance and the small space behind with arrows pointing to a door that will hopefully lead them further in.
(OOC - MikeD - Not sure why you have that impression. If you look at this post: #873723 - February 20, 2017 13:57 in this thread it shows the place is actively being used.)
[[ Hmmm ... weelll ... I don't see where Jaliera's 'relays what she =saw=' post mentions anything about hearing folks moving about inside and so ... mostly forgot about that ... a lot has happened since =that= post. That's my story and I am sticking to it <weg> I updated my post above <g> ]]
So not to be =too= picky, and =definitely= =not= putting this on Gypsy (I was certainly the one that forgot about what she heard), but if you actually =read= it ... it says:
Quote:
She relates everything she =saw= through Whispers eyes.
Nothing about hearing anything. And if you read the GM reports, the owl didn't =SEE= anything <weg>
DM Davroar, the weasel, returns to the spot where the party has gathered. Then he draws a remarkable map with those quasi-prehensile claws of his. The map indicates the concealed entrance. Meanwhile, Jaliera reports on what she perceived through Whisper's eyes and ears.
Now the party needs to decide how to handle their approach to the castle. Whisper and Davroar might have been seen but ignored. Most folks don't pay attention to random wildlife, but people are another thing. The castle is obviously occupied and most likely guarded. It's even possible that the party has been spotted by eagle-eyed guards, but so far there's no indication that that has happened to this point.
The area immediately around the castle is clear. There are no wagons, trees or large rocks to hide behind. This is likely by design.
He pored over the weasel sketchings, and then mused, pointing to indicate,
"I suggest we start a fire around the other side of the castle, dry kindling below smoky logs tobuy time, to draw their attention over there whilst we go for the concealed entrance."
The castle is formidable in appearance, and Chandan has no knowledge of storming such strongholds. Fortunately Kriv has an idea.
Chandan's memory isn't failing him though, the old monk does remember the idea he had approaching Wyvern Tor. Use the Redbrand cloaks to convince the humanoids they're allies, gaining them entrance into the castle not by strength, by guile.
Chandan shares this idea with the rest of the party.
"So, what do you think? Put Iarno's villainy to some good, and be a shame if they thought it really was him who ordered us cause havoc!"
"Not sure if a fire would work. Why would they care? Would they even notice? Might be worth a try. Chandan, not sure what you are suggesting? We pretend to be Redbrands? Or just try to bluff the orcs?"
She shakes her head.
"We could just try to sneak to the entrance, approaching in what seems the least guarded way and staying close to the towers, hard to look directly down though an arrow slit. Not convinced this would work either."
"Do we know that they are orcs", he asked. "And is there a reason why we need to 'storm' this fortified position maned by a force of unknown size and composition?"
"To reiterate, we have reason to believe that the individual we are oathsworn to protect, Gundren Rockspeaker, is being held and interrogated here in an attempt to get him to reveal the location of the near-mythical Wave Echo Cave, by a sadistic mastermind who styles himself 'The Spider'. Securing the release of Gundren is mandatory. Ending the potential threat of the Spider is a bonus."
"I get that, but charging in blindly is a recipe for disaster", he said with a sigh. "We need to know more before we can mount a decent attack. Do they send out patrols? If so, how often. Can we take out a patrol? That would decrease their numbers =and= if they send out another team to see what happened to the first, we can reduce their numbers more."
