"Yes, but from what you told me of their chatter, their 'camp' is =that= way", he said with a grin. "So the question still is ... do we want to leave them to attack us from behind while we explore the dragon issue."
"It would not be my choice either, Balthazar. But I am willing to listen if someone has a reason to suggest another plan", he admitted. He had never been a fan of 'leaders' who would not listen to what others thought. "We are all in this together, so everyone should have a chance to contribute their input."
"I would suggest that we take on the mansized targets first. We can always deal with the dragon later. We were not given a deadline so let us do what is safest for our interests first. The people you over heard may also be part of what we dealt with earlier. We are still trying to find the answers to a mystery."
The group has decided to investigate the newcomers that the Druid told them about, and who they heard last night, before tackling the dragon. Based on what Ryssa heard last night, your best guess is they came from somewhere on the east side of town, but where? One comment they made, about the Twig Blights being on the 'North' side of town might be a clue. Surely they didn't like them.
Leaving the ruined building that used to be a Spider Lair, and passing by the trail to the north, that leads up the hill towards the Dragon's Tower, you quickly come to a fork in the road.
One path turns south. Directly across the road is a ruined building (#9) (everyone except Lingo make a DC12 Investigation check).....
Past that building is a reasonably intact structure (#8). A wide chimney and rotted piles of firewood are jumbled outside the walls of this place suggesting it might have been a smithy once. The path turns east just past the Smithy.
The northern branching of the path heads towards several ruined buildings clustered around a small open square. You can just make out a status in the square (#10).

As you pause to decide which direction to head in, something tickles Luminmonrn's memory. The building just ahead (#9), resembles the description given to the group by the woman you freed from Tresendar Manor (the Redbrand's Hideout) back in Phandalin.
"Something about that building," he pointed with a taloned finger. "I can't remember exactly what, but a woman we friend in the base of the manor said something that makes he think of that," his voice trailed off.
As if to punctuate his decision he pulls his sword, Talon.
"Well we can go ahead and check it out", he said to Luminmorn's recollection. "We probably should at least be sure that we are not leaving a potential ... 'problem' behind us." He considered his bow, but inside a building ... he decided to pull his rapier instead. He moved toward the building.
The others seemed squeamish about him doing what came natural to the halfling. It was odd to ask permission. In his mind it was like asking for permission to breathe. But he realized it would make the big folk feel better about things.
He nodded. It =was= a good idea to see if they could gain some information. But if they were going to hang back while Lingo approached, he decided to switch to his bow so he could better cover his investigations.
The human mage turned his attention to their sides and back, watching out for any danger from those directions while the more combat capable kept their attention fixed on the objective.
Lingo Given the nod to do some scouting, the halfling moved towards the building and tried to find a place to peer inside. Lingo Stealth,Perception Neptune rolled 1d20+7,1d20+3 and got 8, 11 Lingo Lingo is lucky...Reroll stealth Neptune rolled 1d20+7 and got 22 (You'll need to tell me if I need to do something extra)
Being a ruined building, there are plenty of holes in the crumbling walls that Lingo can peer thru.
This ruined shop is cluttered with sagging storage shelves and broken furniture. Shards of glass and pieces of pottery glint in the weeds and rubble next to rotted books and casks.
With Luminmorn's reminder, Lingo can remember where in the shop the woman, Mirna, said there would be a hidden compartment containing her family heirloom.
Lingo With everyone giving him the opportunity, and with no apparent dangers around, Lingo enters and goes where they were directed to go. He checks for secret compartments and any traps that might be around.
