Oh yes. Keiko knows the rule!!

"Off with her head!"

Keiko runs away! And hides. (Keiko should know a hiding place or two by now. Yep, yep.)

Sorry, we've been doing inventory at work and it's been a little slice of hell. Figuratively and temperature wise, which has led to much exhaustion. Working on it now.

Ah, inventory. I remember doing inventory at the co-op. Great fun. (Not.) It was especially delightful when I had to do the inventory in Hell (the freezer) or the entire back stockroom was Hell (way too cold). While I suspect your version of Hell vastly differs from mine, doing anything in Hell is undesirable. (Zandru runs Hell where I wind up. He knows not of this entity called "Satan.")

Oh, great and mighty GM... is it too late to escape? It's not, is it? I hear it's nice in Talesan's Village. And interesting in Bordertown. Keiko might like that Card Reader in Bordertown, despite her family connections. <nods nods nods> Oh, oh, oh! Or that old guy at the cathedral in Talesan's Village... he seems like fun. Talking to his garden! Glorious!

I would like to note, as a helpful piece of advice ... that any time you want to get information from an NPC your character should actually talk with them; and post what and how your character would icly ask as that will frame the manner of response.

Questions posed as "I ask whats up around town" will not garner much useful information.

Most of the NPCs actually love to talk but you need to interact with them to do so. I usually bury a ton of important information in such conversation in return.

Second, I do understand that Waveriders Watch may not be what was expected. How well it serves as a base of operations (which could be very well) is completely up to you folks. Just like a dungeon adventure your actions have to make it so ... it is not something that will just happen on its own accord.

Did the High Senechal being chased out of the keep happen while we were in Talantal? Or is that new news?

That was when Bekkah proved that he was poisoning Tray.

Oh and Kel\Wolf Bekkah would ask about "The One Rule", but looking back through the conversations, nobody has ever said that phrase to her. So don't assume she wouldn't be curious. She definitely would.

Have we needed to mention the One Rule to Bekkah? Nah. Bekkah's not going to get all rowdy. The reputation of the Ladies of Attera has meant that there's no need to mention it.

Yet.

Note - I am being terse mainly because I've been rather sick for the last little bit here I think I'm finally getting over it but as soon as I can figure out how to catch myself up all reinsert myself more fully into the set of posting. Sorry about that. But being a bit sick combined with being out in 95 to 100° weather and high humidity is had me feeling rather exhausted.

Feel better. Kadri needs to find out if Thomas reported the murder of a Imperial official back to Talantal.

And when they are back at the place with Thomas I am sure she will have much for asking about that.

Quote:
Not quite the time or place, so he heads back towards the settlement, avoiding those visiting the market, to find a place to sit and observe at a distance and wait until Keiko returns.

To explain .. no that would take t long ... to sum up!

As Cesare returns he saw the kerfluffle at its peak and then slowly dissipate. Keiko took Bekkah "away" but that was just away from being the center of attention and where that group of forest folk were trading. The only thing she didn't do was bring Bekkah to where she was standing before.

Thus she is still in the hamlet, just not where she was ... and it was also close enough for Renyard to wander over and join the conversation.

So if Cesare wants to go that way its fine.

He can also mingle with the Forest Folk who are still at Market.

[OOC Cesare is not going to approach the forest folk, any of them, not without an invitation anyway and he doesn't expect one. The warning to stay away from the market is interpreted as a warning to avoid the forest folk. He values his privacy, he respects that of others. He is curious, sure, but wants to learn more first. He will wait until Keiko is free of the forest folk, he has time, he has all day. smile ]

So, based on the map (thanks Wolf!), and as I thought, no one is anywhere near Mikal, Kadri, and Broke. The trading is taking place on the other side of the bridge. It should be impossible for anyone else to heat their conversation without magical assistance.

Actually the trading is taking place between the nearest two houses ( spread out at the base of the steps up).

The Merchants who will arrive tomorrow (with leftovers) are on the other side of the bridge.

Whether or not Mikal and Broke's conversation could be heard depends on how close you are to the base of the rock and the listener's Listen Skill and/or other mitigating factors. That said, Mikal is correct in believing that most folks and those in the market should not have overheard.

Kel did not hint that they have or are a hive mind. Kel suspects they have better hearing than those of us who are mere mortals... plus their Listen skill is probably something like 500%. (I might be exaggerating. This is only the impression Keiko has from living here for a while.)

grin

Well, as I mentioned in chat, Mikal would have been careful to speak at a volume audible only to Broke and Kadri.

BTW, there is almost nothing Broke could have done to piss Mikal off more than what he did. A man who arbitrarily decides for everyone what they can and cannot do based solely on his brute strength. That is EXACTLY what the Montagues did and thus to Mikal Broke is no better than Jakal Montague.

Worse, Mikal personally, as well as his actions in the inn to ensure no violence would occur, were then insulted. mocked, and derided by that very same bully, to his face.

He is thankful he left his weapons up above or Broke would be staring at a sword sticking out of his gut.

Yeah, so Keiko didn’t hear him. Keiko also doesn’t care. grin However, she DID note that he went back up the rock.

Now, Super OCD Woman is going to say that, based on your posts, Mikal is three to five steps away from Broke. And he must speak at a certain volume in order to be heard by Broke. You’ve got Super OCD Woman wondering about the acoustics of the area (some places carry whispers for miles) and who might have heard Mikal — despite his best intentions — simply due to the nature of the acoustical structure of the place.

However, in deference to our dear Little Mary Sunshine, I’m putting SOW back to sleep... at least for that issue.

I’ll go back to my first point. Third point. Keiko noted that Mikal stopped to speak to Broke. Keiko noted the tension. And Super OCD Woman says Keiko was looking at Renyard when Mikal walked away.

That doesn’t mean she didn’t sense the ripples of tension. Let us say for the sake of argument that Keiko is far more interested in whatever Renyard has to say than in the Drama of the Stairs (we’ll say that because it’s the truth).

Keiko is where she always is on Marketday... at the market. Bekkah, being a sidekick and all, is quietly sitting and watching. Cesare, being a wuss, is sitting even farther away and watching. Mikal has gone back to the tower. Kadri... well, we don’t know because it’s too hot in Georgia (I still don’t know if that’s possible, but I guess it is for other people).

Where does that leave the characters?

Isolated.

Interacting with NPCs.

Which is fine, because players should play their characters with integrity, doing what they believe they ought to do in any particular situation.

I only know how things are from my character’s point of view because I haven’t been reading any Heartwood (well, one post in the dungeon but... eh) since Daxia and Kisa went to the library.

Keiko has been here for two months, give or take. She gets on just fine with the locals and the Forest Folk. There are these newcomers that her Cards have been telling her about.

So far, they aren’t impressing her... and she might need to have a stern talking to with the Deck because she isn’t sure the Cards having been playing with her. (Go away, GM! I haven’t asked a question of the Cards yet.)

From a player’s perspective — as a player who is supposed to be integrating into the group — I see that things are not going well.

Mikal and Broke? Eh. Broke will be fine, Broke’s feelings are not going to be hurt, Broke is going to go back to watching over the Forest Folk. Out of sight, out of mind.

Keiko was facing away from the Drama on the Stairs when Mikal walked away. Who heard what doesn’t matter. The potential for chaos decreased when Mikal walked away so, in that regard, no problems! Keiko knows how well all of the Guardians around the market space can take care of themselves and the Folk they guard. She witnessed it firsthand.

I should probably say this in character, but at the rate that no one is talking to anyone else, it may never come up. So I’ll just say that... ah... No. Broke would NOT be staring at Mikal’s sword sticking out of any body parts. I don’t care how good you think Mikal is. When Broke says, “No fighting,” Broke MEANS “NO FIGHTING.”

<shrug>

Even I can recognize that this is all minutia. What does it matter? Well, consequences of actions matter, yes.

But how is any of this moving the game forward?

I need to get over to the office now. No doubt we will have further opportunities to discuss game mechanics later! smile

Yes, naturally up to the DM if he succeeded.....

"I have this nifty sword here, darksteel don't you know. Want to see it? Yes? Well if you look closely you can see this cool pattern to the steel, yes a bit closer, closer, hold it near your belly if you want a good view. Yes, that's it... <thrust> .... no time to react." wink
