Jaliera 23 - missed Chandan 19 - can go Karok 19 - is delaying Kriv 17 - can go Kallista 16 - looks in chest Davroar 16 - can go Nothic 4 - If it survives, it goes last
Remember that it has moved down the steps and is currently not in melee range. It has cover from any attack not from at the top of the steps.
DM Chandan chases down the nothic and with one angry thrust, terminates it's existence. There is a scant moment of calm, but the heroes would not be surprised if more foes appeared.
Contemptuously, he turned his back on the creature, trusting his colleagues with ranged weaponry would end it, recognizing the folly in charging headlong after it. It was going to die, there was nothing it could do about that, and it wasn't even going to be allowed the fleeting satisfaction of drawing the group towards its allies.
He looked over at their haul in the chest Instead. When the bandits answered the alarum call, he would resume killing them accordingly.
They may well be expecting others now so both the young druid and the girl take up positions where they can use the cover at the end of the corridor where the Nothic died, both waiting for any trouble. Jaliera has her bow drawn ready, Davroar stands ready to step in with his staff. For now they wait to see what will happen.
Reaching into the chest, after a quick glance at her companions to verify what kinds of weapons each one carries, she tosses the sheathed long sword to Kriv. "Here you go. Looks like it might be something special."
She takes out the two flasks but leaves all the money for now.
She looks where Davroar and Jaliera are headed and calls out, "Don't go too far that way. That's where the Nothic said his friends are. But we do need to block those stairs."
Not moments after the nothic dies, a door, around the corner from Chandan burst open. Several men come pouring out into the narrow hallway, swords in hand. The ruffian in the front assaults Chandan with both his swords and also with his breath, which smells like the floor behind a bar in a seedy tavern.
Although big and angry, the oaf swings wildly twice. Perhaps if he wasn't so drunk, he would have hit the monk. Instead, he'll need to surive the retaliation to get a second chance. Ruffian-1 attacks Chandan att, dis, att, dis Neptune rolled 1d20+4,1d20+4,1d20+4,1d20+4 and got 13, 22, 11, 6
He gave the long sword a brief visual appraisal, but let it fall to the ground once he had done so.
"Could be, but bear in mind weapons are there to be used and this one isn't by the chest's owner. Might be ceremonial, or even trapped. No time to verify one way or the other."
Hefting his maul instead, he strode up to block the choke point.
DM As Kriv and Kallista look at the sword which is sheathed in a silver-chased scabbard. They immediately recogninze the design on the hilt. It is worked in the shape of a bird of prey with outstretched wings. Once they seee it, they know it to be a magical sword of lore that belonged to a great knight named Aldith Tresendar, known as the Black Hawk.
He paused, and glanced back, the light of scholarly interest in his eyes.
"That said, the winged sigil is very familiar. If I'm not mistaken, this could well be the Black Hawk's blade!"
He then turned back to the task at hand, standing ready to strike at any ruffian that tried to escape from the corridor, or to allow any colleagues to fire past him should the enemy hold back.
She looks at Kriv a bit incredulously as he mentions the sword is a famous magical weapon, but one he chooses to leave on the floor and not use in this combat.
Having taken the two flasks, she stays back, but moving to a position where she has a good line of sight (say 5,9 or 5,10) she quickly casts a bolt of fire at the front-most enemy. Kallista Bolt of Fire Zeim rolled d20+5,d10 and got 16, 5
(OOC - lots of people moving around. Could use an updated map.)
He was trying to dislodge his spear from the corpse of the Nothic when the ruffians attacked and now he staggers back under their onrush, which at least pulls his spear free.
Fighting drunk. Chandan knows exactly how the man feels!
Hearing the heavy footfalls of the Dragonborn closing from behind, he concentrates on discouraging this rabble.
[Hit roll 16+5=21, 10+5=15 If 1 hit, 2+3=5 damage If 2 hit, 5+3=8 damage]
Kallista moves closer to the action but her angle of attack is not ideal. The bolt of fire just missesgrazes the ruffian that is battling Chandan down the steps. Chandan, however, does not miss and as a result of the old man's attack, the ruffian is barely able to stay on his feetfelled.
Kriv stands guard. Jaliera and Davroar both missed.
ooc: I think this is where everyone is. I'm waiting for Karok to go before retaliation begins ooc2: Zeim corrected my math and yes, Kallista hit. I adjusted everything (including the map).
Last edited by Neptune; Mon 13/04/1523:55 UTC. Reason: Corrected to adjust for Kallista's hit and some of the movement
[ooc: I'll swap Kriv and Davroar then. Note: Anyone not in the corridor proper (Kriv, Kallista and Karok) will have -2 to hit due to partial cover provided by the steps and the angle.]
The next drunken ruffian steps over the body of his pal to assault Chandan but the alcohol inhibits it's ability and he misses twice with his short sword.
[[Chandan is going to need a bloody stiff drink after this!!]]
Chandan
With the first ruffian quivering on the floor and gouting blood, Chandan draws his spear back like a scorpion, wide grip, wielding the tip like a short sword.
Then he seems to trip on his yellow scarf and stagger, causing the second attacker's blade to miss him entirely, before lunging forward and across to open the man up.
[[Hit roll 14+5=19, 16+5=21 2+3=5 damage 4+3=7 damage]]
