Lingo "Anyone got some rope? I want to tie it around that pillar over there (he points to where the pillar that the monster was hiding behind. My rope's only about 50 feet long. We'll need more to get down there safely."
(OOC - It should actually only take 30 feet of rope to tie to the pillar and reach the bottom. Say 40 feet if you account for going around the pillar and tying knots.)
[That's what my math was, 40 around the pillar and 20 down, but it's probably close enough. He'll do that then and climb down. Can't leave a chest alone - oooh, is that something shiny? ]
Not wanting Balthazar to wait, he climbs back down and gives him a bit of a boost.

"Can you guys keep an eye out", he calls up to those still up top. "We want to check out what we found down here and I would rather not get surprised while we are down here", he said.
"Lingo, you are better at traps and such, can you check out that chest ... carefully", he said pointing.
"Its a bit cold, would you rather help keep watch up there Balthazar?"
"No, I will keep watch down here, firebolt at the ready." he said, eyes sweeping the gorge that they were in to make sure nothing tried to sneak up on his companions. "Thank you for your healing Bern."
He kept his eyes open and as he was holding a two handed weapon, it was better of Ryssa had the light coin. Once she was ready, he moved with her and kept his eyes open as best he could.
The three down below approach the chest (on map in brown), Lingo in the lead. As they do they pass a body of a man. It is partially gnawed upon, but most of the chewing has been on it's lower body so it's features are clear. It is no one you recognize.

Lingo With the target, a wooden chest, in sight, the halfling makes a bee-line for it and looks it over from a few feet away before trying to tackle opening it.
Lingo Investigation Neptune rolled 1d20+3 and got 12
Not sure how to handle the light coin and her bow efficiently, Ryssa nocked an arrow loosely and held both arrow and bow in her left hand and, light coin in right, she glanced toward the paladin to make sure he was ready and then headed west into the passageway the Nothic had emerged from (I think).
She went only a few feet before pausing, not wanting to leave the immediate area of the rest of the group.
Balthazar looks a bit closer at the body on the floor and notes that the man's hands are rough and weathered, indicating someone who works with tools. He can also see the mans fingers and hands have numerous wooden splinters in them.
Lingo looks at the chest from a few feet away and sees nothing particularly noteworthy about it. It appears to be a simple, but battered, wooden chest perhaps 4 feet long.
Ryssa looks at the passage to the west, from where she believes the Nothic emerged, although she can't be certain as it had appeared with some level of surprise. She can see it heads off to the west for perhaps 10 feet and then turns into a stairway leading down. She can see the stairway is fairly short, maybe 10 feet long, descending about 10 feet. At it's end there is a door on the south and the passage itself turns north.

His eyes (apparently) closed in concentrated thought, Bern comes up with an possible answer for Balthazar. "Perhaps the Redbands hired some work done ... there is quite a bit here so far and we have more to explore. And perhaps the beast got him ... or the Redbands killed him when his work was done so that he couldn't tell anyone about this place."
