For information the Rikart thing is the only other specific immediate thing for my pallete and Kadri would certainly go along if there were a Jakal hunt, as Jakal meets her definition of 'a bully that needs to be knocked down'.

As stated above, Mikal could go along on a mission to kill Jakal Montague, as long as he was contracted to do it by a leader of one of the Noble Families.

However if others have their own ideas about next steps that lead in a different direction I am not opposed to that either. I just need to hear them.

Daxia will stay with the Horde at Brockman's Holdfast, training with Barris and Dandy and Rafe. Maybe The Marcy-Darcy will come along, too, because she's going to need them. She expects the snot to be beaten out of her on a daily basis.

Alternatively, the quest to go to the Forest of Roth, while the enemy has been decimated from the recent battle, as well as demoralized from losing their leader and at each other's throats trying to pick a new one, in order to reclaim the Fortress there for Jvrill sounded cool the first time I mentioned it. It still does. Would need a much bigger contingent than just 4 or 5 of us though.

Cesare would go for that finishing off what they started before... but that would depend on what Darian intends.

So seems like there isn't a strong feeling one way or the other for the two Mikal suggested, and I haven't heard anyone else suggest anything else (pending Gypsy and Ividia talking to the Hunter in Talantal), so Mikal can put out feelers that he is now available for contract and see if he gets any nibbles.

All-in-all, it seems going after Jakal would be more straight forward and involve far fewer npcs (i.e. no need to try to bring in Daffyd's Swords and Molkhavin's Horse to support a move to retake Castle Roth), and I heard no objections to that idea either.

before I start crafting posts I'd just like to confirm a few things ...

Kadri and Mikal seem to be on the edge of discussing terms for a true contract - is this something you want/wish to bring to fruition? Kadri certainly has the connections - especially now - to actually do this. however, then its her choosing which path you follow next. Are you up to something like that Art?

Darian and Cesare will be looking for the Talantal Hunter first thing the next morning.

Wolf - One other option could be Kadri using her connections and influence to surreptitiously sponsor Mikal forming a Troop. She is the "Silent Partner" as it were. Perhaps in exchange for a share of the profits she allows Mikal to choose his own missions, unless she has something pressing for him to take on. That would give Mikal more influence in directing future paths.

It also would create some intrigue as Mikal's Troop would have no "publicly known" sponsor, thus allowing him to act for Kadri and Dominie (and perhaps by extension the Korie's and Amber Clans on occasion) without any direct fingers pointing back at them. He'd be a bit of a mystery. Instead of a "Independent Jvrillian" he'd be an "Independent Troop".

Main issue I see, presuming this all flies, is how this impacts his availability for small missions with the party. i.e. If he is busy forming a Troop how often can he simply run off on his own with 4 or 5 others to do things without bringing the whole Troop along?

However, it could give Daxia a means to be involved but for Kel to take a break. Mikal could get things started and then if he has to go off on a small mission he could hire Kel as his "Second" and let her recruit the unit of Dayallan archers he needs and leave her to take care of the training of the Troop while he takes care of "other business".

It also gives the party a "backup", as it were, as there could always be a unit of the Troop who could be called in as backup if things so sideways.

Just some thoughts.

The best thingI like about this is that it is a player generated plot line It's definitely possible and the "secret troop" is a very intriguing idea

For Kadri, she'd need to start with Kathi - who manages Dominic's money (which is now also hers) and well uhm ... ah ... uhm ... she may also be on good terms with the new Seneschal.

For Mikal, we'd need to know how he would collect folks ... especially for such a clandestine troop.

actually it is, very much so.

Other advantages, as I think about it more, with Dazi as Mikal's second.

I am sure you (Wolf) know, that it is typically not the Leader of the Troop who does the training and the day-to-day admin work to keep the Troop functioning. That is usually done by the Second in command, the Quartermaster, and other key support staff. The Leader is usually out recruiting new talent and bringing in new Contracts. He is the "face" of the Troop and can't be bogged down with clerical work. He leads the Troop into battle, but he isn't required to manage the daily affairs.

So, for Mikal's availability for small missions, he could have Dazi doing all the grunt work as an NPC or part-time pc and it leaves him free to do other things, making appearance for battles, parades, and so forth. Even bringing in Bekkah and possibly Romana as the Troop's resident Healers would allow those pc/npc to stay around and be available at a moment's notice if their players wanted to re-activate them.

As for who to recruit, beyond seeing if Dazi could get some Dayalan horse archers and Kadri could find some Amber Clansmen who could train the cavalry or even obtain first class mounts, first thing he'd do is put out feelers for any New Jvrillians who were left from Cameron's Light Horse and the other disbanded Troops who used to work for Brockman.

From Mikal's background material:

"After a time, some of the mercenary troops tried to stand up to Montague, but that stopped after the first month, the month of the fires, the month their commanders were burned at the stake. Soon Cameron’s Light Horse was forced to disband; they had a Contract, but Brockman could not afford them. The Swords of the troop got together and discussed their options. They were strong enough to Break the contract ... and then ... then each to take their own way; between Montague and Talantal there was little need for an organized group of new Jvrillians. But there was plenty of work for the ones and twos; guarding a caravan on the Highland Path, hunting gryphons, or even taking bounties offered by the local manor lord or sheriff.

Within a handfull of days Cameron's Light Horse was no more. Derrick Cameron headed east, to Bordertown, his second Josef the Dark worked the wagons heading west. Haldrick and Jennis actually did end up hunting gyphons; Jennis was the better crossbowman, he heard later that Haldrick got himself et."

Between the remnants of several disbanded Troops, Mikal might be able to find the core of a new one. And with all of those having experience as "Lone Jvrillians", they'd have learned discretion.

Well Cesare is happy to help Darian in any way, and could certainly help try to find the Hunter.. but as far as he knows Hunter business is Hunter business and that part is likely to be Darian's alone.

If this business gets resolved quickly and in a way that frees them up, rather than involves them in a side plot, might be worth exploring what place Cesare & Darian might have in Mikal's new world. The only thing I could think of is that they could be 'hired' as scouts? Anyone any other ideas?

Definitely good in the scouting department. Kadri, personally, would value them for their advice as much as anything. And Cesare has a bonus motivation that Kadri could continue his horse lessons.

Or a horse to be part of that mounted troop! He's do a lot for a horse of his own.
