Tiger-Lily

She flattens herself down on the step, keeping her profile low just like when she is hunting. She waits for an opportunity to slip out and head for the pond.. but not whilst the spirit is in the way.

She watches and waits. She made her offer and will act accordingly either helping Tiger-Lily or doing what she can with the spirit.

The spirit doesn't take notice of the herd of cats in the food preparation room. It flows towards the sitars leading to the upstairs wet room.

Bringer

Bringer bristled slightly and looked to Shadow to see if the other, more stealthy, cat was going to follow.

Shadow

The two-dimensional oversized feline hunched low in the darkness, the archetypal hunter's pose, before springing after the spirit, contorting over the stairs in an eye-watering manner.

They were missing something. The spirit didn't care for them at all, which meant it still had something to do. Something more important than cats, which meant very important indeed, at least to the spirit.

Seeker jumped down as quietly as he could, then started to look around the hallway. It was just possible there was an image that showed the a person looking like the spirit looked. And that might be a clue. An important clue.

Terror

"Hrm," he rumbled as the spirit passed him by. Not that he had hoped for negative attention.

Since it was ignoring them, he decided also to follow it in hopes of observing it for clues. He might not be able to turn himself into an actual shadow, yet he was much stealthier than some might guess from his size.

The spirit flowed up the stairs passing by two sets of burden sized doors. Then it went through the one at the end of the hall and beyond that the cats couldn't see. The door was currently closed.

They could hear the snoring of an old man burden inside that room.

The air is permeated with a thick aroma of salt and water. Those cats who have been to the coast would know the smell from the ocean, but it is not from here.

As Seeker looks about he finds a thing hanging on the wall that looks similar to the spirit. She was an old woman and seemed happy in the wall hanging. She was on board a craft that was moving across water with the old man burden at this wheel.

Was that... Oh, yes, Seeker recognized those strange crafts. Burdens and water interacted so oddly. They seemed to like being surrounded by it.

But that didn't give any clues to the anchor. Just to...

"I think it must be Mrs. McGee, though I never heard of her. And something must've happened on... I think they're called 'boats'." His whisper was intense as he tagged along, catching up with those who crept up the stairs after the spirit. "McGee doesn't belong to anyone, but that just means he's everyone's right now. We need her distracted from going after him until we can find her name or anchor."

Tiger-Lily

As they other make for the stairs, she slips to the side and heads back the way they came in, intending to make for the pond. And if she can find a sacrifice on the way to make her warding stronger, all the better.

She slipped off to follow. The toms appeared to have the spirit well in paw. If there was something else out there, some type of protection, it would be better not to have fellow hunters heading off alone.

Shadow

Doors were no barrier to him, though he was unable to open them in this form. Still, what he lacked in being able to help the others he made up for in speed: He stayed hot on the heels of the spirit, going under the closed door.

Bringer

The big man followed Shadow and Terror up the stairs and down the hall after the spirit, stopping at the door which Shadow had slid under. He rawrled quietly and glanced questioningly at Terror.

Having never been to the sea, he did not recognize the scent; it simply didn't smell right. But the others were doing a good job at filling him in.

Of course the door presented a problem. He glanced at Bringer, then looked up at the mechanism that burdens used to open doors. Was it the stick type that could be easily opened with a good jump? Or was it the more challenging round type?

The door mechanism was the stick type, and could possibly persuaded to open like the one leading to the room of dead things that Shadow opened earlier.

Tiger-Lily

As she starts to head for the outside she hears soft pads behind her and looks back to see Soot following. She smiles, feeling much better now she had a companion. She would have gone on her own but it will be easier and less nerve-wracking with someone else along. And Soot might become a friend.

She turns back, her tail now at a jauntier angle as she heads out.

Bringer

"It looks like a door that opens toward us so... whichever of us jumps at the stick mover thing will have to jump, twist and pull..."

The big stump-tailed cat spoke quietly but his tone was not happy.

"You want to try first?" he asked Terror.

Seeker knew better than trying to fight a spirit. The best the could do is distract it or convince it to give up its secrets. But they needed to do something to try to save the old man, whatever he had done in the past.

So he followed the others upstairs to try what they could.

Shadow

He took a moment to assess what lay beyond that door, particularly the Spirit and any Burdens.

Tiger-Lily

Once outside, she'll wait for Soot and then head back to the pond, keeping her eye out for a suitable sacrifice to help with the warding.

She would follow - still dark coated and moonlit glitter on her fur and pointy bits.

Terror

"Let's see," he said, rearing up on his hind legs and walked his front paws up toward the stick. He normally has no trouble reaching the surface of the high place the burdens prepared food on -- something that amused his burdens unless he actually stole some food from it. The stick didn't seem any higher than that food place. If he could reach it, he tried to pull down on it.

Shadow explores two dimensionally and notes a snoring old burden in the soft squishy napping thing. The spirit has gone into another room and he hears water.

Terror's tactic works and the door springs open.
