Anyone familiar with it? I've skimmed their site before and the books look fantastic. I can't fathom what their selling point is though. Are they just books containing new races for D&D and Pathfinder? | | | | Joined: May 2009 Posts: 16,552 Likes: 16 Chaotic Obfuscator Moderator | Chaotic Obfuscator Moderator Joined: May 2009 Posts: 16,552 Likes: 16 | I have never heard of them, but from skimming the web, they are making compatible monster beastiaries for 5e and PF2e. | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 13,225 Likes: 10 Wobbly Headed Administrator | Wobbly Headed Administrator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 13,225 Likes: 10 | Interesting! I suppose the official 5e races are all humanoids so there might well be a market for more unusual ones. Some people don't want to play He-Man, they want to play Battle Cat. | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 10,958 Likes: 4 Administrator | OP Administrator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 10,958 Likes: 4 | MarchChaosiumCall of Cthulhu: Arkham HC Cubicle 7Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay: Lustria Goodman GamesD&D 5E Original Adventure Reincarnated #7: Dark Tower HC Dungeon Denizens HC Dungeon Delves SC Dungeon Denizens Cardstock Pawns Dungeon Denizens: Dungeon Dice Dungeon Denizens: Game Master Screen HC Xcrawl Classics Core Rulebook HC Xcrawl Classics: Dungeon Judge's Screen Xcrawl Classics: Reference Booklet SC Xcrawl Classics #0: Murder Mountain Smackdown Xcrawl Classics #1: Formerly Known as Terror on the Tundra Xcrawl Classics #2: Tropicrawl Cataclysm Xcrawl Classics #3: Please Xcrawl! It'd be like if Wizards decided the next Forgotten Realms location they were going to cover after the Sword Coast was Maztica. | | | | Joined: Dec 2020 Posts: 2,241 Likes: 11 Moderator | Moderator Joined: Dec 2020 Posts: 2,241 Likes: 11 | Yeah, I looked up Lustria. I don't think I'm going to pick that up for now. Still working through so much material in Reikland. I do love the work they're doing at Cubicle5. | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 13,225 Likes: 10 Wobbly Headed Administrator | Wobbly Headed Administrator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 13,225 Likes: 10 | I guess Lustria does give the option for a completely different style of campaign. Exploring an alien and hostile wilderness instead of milling around the crusty kingdoms of the Old World. Feels like it'd be a very short campaign though. Like, your characters wonder into the first lizardman village and are promptly slaughtered. | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 10,958 Likes: 4 Administrator | OP Administrator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 10,958 Likes: 4 | AprilChaosiumPendragon Core Rulebook Cubicle 7Wrath & Glory: Starter Set Mongoose PublishingReach Adventure 8: Makergod Paranoia: Brave New Missions Paizo PublishingPathfinder Flip-Mat: Showtime Multi-Pack Pathfinder Lost Omens: Tian Xia World Guide Pathfinder Adventure Path: Wardens of Wildwood Part 1 - Pactbreaker Renegade Game StudiosKids on Bikes RPG 2nd Edition SC | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 13,225 Likes: 10 Wobbly Headed Administrator | Wobbly Headed Administrator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 13,225 Likes: 10 | OK wow, a Wrath & Glory Starter Set is ambitious!! I mean you've got to summarise the Warhammer 40K universe then lead a new player through a crunchy system. Check out a character sheet, for example. I'll be interested to see how well they do! Now then, Kids on Bikes has a 2nd Edition. It came out in 2019 so I guess that is 5 years.... Doesn't seem that long ago though! It's a game I was curious about but the designers really put me off with their anti-JK Rowling activities. I try to separate art from the artist, but when a company announces the profits from a product will be donated to a political movement, how can I or anyone? Even if it only applies to a limited run. | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 10,958 Likes: 4 Administrator | OP Administrator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 10,958 Likes: 4 | MayAtomic Overmind PressReign 2E: Rules Reign 2E: Realms Goodman GamesFifth Edition Fantasy #26: Against the Thieves Guild SC D&D 5E Original Adventure Reincarnated #8: Grimtooth's Old School Traps HC DCC #106: Trails of the Trapmaster's Tomb Dungeon Crawl Classics RPG: Against the Thieves Guild SC Japanime GamesGlitter Hearts RPG Paizo PublishingPathfinder Flip-Mat: Treasure Trove Pathfinder Howl of the Wild Pathfinder Adventure Path: Wardens of Wildwood Part 2 - Severed at the Root Starfinder Mechageddon! I just bought Index Card RPG actually and it is similar in its one roll but you get to use your 7 poly set instead of only d10s. | | | | Joined: May 2009 Posts: 16,552 Likes: 16 Chaotic Obfuscator Moderator | Chaotic Obfuscator Moderator Joined: May 2009 Posts: 16,552 Likes: 16 | I like ICR. They want to keep using their poly dice but 5e has been a bit stifling for them, compared to Magical Kitties. Magical Kitties uses d6s otherwise I'd use it, but ICRPG should work well. | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 10,958 Likes: 4 Administrator | OP Administrator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 10,958 Likes: 4 | JuneCubicle 7Wrath & Glory: Redacted Records 2 Doctor Who: A Stitch In Time Goodman GamesDCC Lankmar: The House of Jade and Shadow The Protectorate of Jenulane SC The Scales of the Hyper-Visor God HC Tales From the Smoking Warm #8 SC Mongoose PublishingTraveller: The Deep and the Dark Traveller: Whispers from the Abyss Paranoia: Compendium #404 Paizo PublishingPathfinder Core GM Screen Pathfinder Monster Core Pawn Box Pathfinder Flip-Mat: Basic Environments Multi-Pack Pathfinder Adventure Path: Wardens of Wildwood Part 3 - Shepherd of Decay Pathfinder Monster Core Pocket Edition Renegade Game StudiosG.I. Summing up, for a high-level adventure it doesn't try hard enough to make combat more accessible or really acknowledge the versatility of high-level characters in solving problems. Rather it railroads the player characters and doesn't even offer a compelling story behind it either. | | | | Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 23,016 Likes: 12 (Buffalo) Moderator | (Buffalo) Moderator Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 23,016 Likes: 12 | Railroading is easier on the writers. No need to account for world building in case the pcs go off script. | | | | Joined: May 2009 Posts: 16,552 Likes: 16 Chaotic Obfuscator Moderator | Chaotic Obfuscator Moderator Joined: May 2009 Posts: 16,552 Likes: 16 | Don't you mean when the players go off script? | | | | Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 23,016 Likes: 12 (Buffalo) Moderator | (Buffalo) Moderator Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 23,016 Likes: 12 | | | | | Joined: May 2010 Posts: 17,334 Likes: 30 Mayhem Inc. It's a fair point Zeim makes about it being hard for a writer to account for the huge range of versatile abilities that high-level characters have. But the solution must be to write adventures in a completely different style, in a completely different format, rather than in exactly the same way 1st-level adventures are written. | | | | Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 23,016 Likes: 12 (Buffalo) Moderator | (Buffalo) Moderator Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 23,016 Likes: 12 | All about the money. Best approach is to fully flesh out the world to the point that no matter where the pcs go or what the pcs do they can find new and interesting things to do as well as a path back to the main driver. However that takes a lot of time and would create a Campaign Book hundreds of pages long to incorporate everything. All of that costs money. From paying the writers for their extra effort to proofreading, printing (if anyone still buys printed copies of stuff), and so on. Not to mention the added development time which would extend releases. Easier to write a railroad and get it out fast and make money. | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 10,958 Likes: 4 Administrator | OP Administrator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 10,958 Likes: 4 | JulyGoodman GamesDungeon Crawl Classics Dying Earth #10: Passage to the Manse of Erudite Wonderment Blood & Thunder: The Ultimate Book of Mighty Deeds of Arms Champions of the Goblin Market SC Pilgrims of the Goblin Road SC Green Ronin PublishingCthulhu Awakens: AGE RPG Game Master's Kit Cthulhu Awakens: The AGE RPG of the Weird Century HC Monte Cook GamesIt's Only Magic (Cypher System) Paizo PublishingPathfinder Flip-Mat: Village Assault Pathfinder Player Core 2 Pathfinder Adventure: Prey for Death Pathfinder Adventure Path: Curtain Call Part 1 - Stage Fright Starfinder Flip-Mat: Second Edition Playtest Multi-Pack Starfinder Second Edition Playtest Rulebook Starfinder Second Edition Playtest Adventure: A Cosmic Birthday Renegade Game StudiosG.I.
