What is Battlezoo? Anyone familiar with it? I've skimmed their site before and the books look fantastic. I can't fathom what their selling point is though. Are they just books containing new races for D&D and Pathfinder?

I have never heard of them, but from skimming the web, they are making compatible monster beastiaries for 5e and PF2e.

Interesting! I suppose the official 5e races are all humanoids so there might well be a market for more unusual ones. Some people don't want to play He-Man, they want to play Battle Cat.

Lustria for WFRP is a bit of a surprise! It'd be like if Wizards decided the next Forgotten Realms location they were going to cover after the Sword Coast was Maztica.

Yeah, I looked up Lustria. I don't think I'm going to pick that up for now. Still working through so much material in Reikland. I do love the work they're doing at Cubicle5.

I guess Lustria does give the option for a completely different style of campaign. Exploring an alien and hostile wilderness instead of milling around the crusty kingdoms of the Old World. Feels like it'd be a very short campaign though. Like, your characters wonder into the first lizardman village and are promptly slaughtered.

OK wow, a Wrath & Glory Starter Set is ambitious!!

I mean you've got to summarise the Warhammer 40K universe then lead a new player through a crunchy system. Check out a character sheet, for example. I'll be interested to see how well they do!

Now then, Kids on Bikes has a 2nd Edition. It came out in 2019 so I guess that is 5 years.... Doesn't seem that long ago though!

It's a game I was curious about but the designers really put me off with their anti-JK Rowling activities. I try to separate art from the artist, but when a company announces the profits from a product will be donated to a political movement, how can I or anyone? Even if it only applies to a limited run.

I'll have to check out Reign or one of its One Roll Engine brethren... one of these days.

I just bought Index Card RPG actually and it is similar in its one roll but you get to use your 7 poly set instead of only d10s.

I like ICR. It is somewhat minimalist but works.

Yeah, my plan is to use it instead of D&D 5e for my niece and nephew. They want to keep using their poly dice but 5e has been a bit stifling for them, compared to Magical Kitties. Magical Kitties uses d6s otherwise I'd use it, but ICRPG should work well.

I've seen some reviews of Vecna: Eve of Ruin now and it seems to have left groups unimpressed. Summing up, for a high-level adventure it doesn't try hard enough to make combat more accessible or really acknowledge the versatility of high-level characters in solving problems. Rather it railroads the player characters and doesn't even offer a compelling story behind it either.

Railroading is easier on the writers. No need to account for world building in case the pcs go off script.

Don't you mean when the players go off script?

Wait, there is supposed to be a script?!?

There is in Vecna: Eve of Ruin apparently. It's a fair point Zeim makes about it being hard for a writer to account for the huge range of versatile abilities that high-level characters have. But the solution must be to write adventures in a completely different style, in a completely different format, rather than in exactly the same way 1st-level adventures are written.

All about the money. Best approach is to fully flesh out the world to the point that no matter where the pcs go or what the pcs do they can find new and interesting things to do as well as a path back to the main driver. However that takes a lot of time and would create a Campaign Book hundreds of pages long to incorporate everything. All of that costs money. From paying the writers for their extra effort to proofreading, printing (if anyone still buys printed copies of stuff), and so on. Not to mention the added development time which would extend releases. Easier to write a railroad and get it out fast and make money.
