The crowd has gathered before the new multi-denominational church for the dedication ceremony, which is scheduled to start at 2 pm.

The first bell clangs out in a loud tone. The second bell tone rings throughout the square echoing.

People look up to the podium to see Father Zantus raise his hands and claps a Thunderstone, to quiet the crowd. As the crowd begins to simmer down and silence settles on those in the square, a screech is heard.

From all around the crowd, goblins appear. The crowd reacts with panic, trying to run away from the little green foes with rusty daggers that look like swords for them. Some are carrying bows, some are carrying torches, and they all look like they are interested in mayhem.

Goblins in Sandpoint!

[OOC:Initative for this round.
Coral Red Joker +2 on rolls
Sheriff Belor Black Joker
Aendell KC
Guards 10C
Zak 9S
Selaim 9C

Coral you are up and react the fastest to the little troublemakers. Any given group of Gobos are 4, they are all around the crowd.

Sherriff Belor is up on the podium with Father Z.

Guards are sprinkled on the edge of the square.

(OOC - I presume no tactical is needed?)

Aendell

Stepping away from the wall he pulls his sword and slides his shield onto his arm. He sees a mother trying to lift a fallen child up off the ground and he moves to intercept a group of whooping Goblins who are headed towards them.

Aendell's sword cuts cleanly into the Goblin, dropping him like a green pile of goo. That is one Goblin that won't be hurting anyone else.

Though he does note that there are three of his green brethren right at hand. Though they poke and stick, they are unable to pierce his iron-clad armor and shield work.

Missed it by 'that much'. smile

Sheriff Belor

"Beware," he calls to the other guards, attempting to gather their attention to the fight that has come upon them all. He leaps down in front of the podium, Fending off a torch-bearing goblin who has just tried to set the speaking stand on fire. The stand is slowly sputtering. But the gobo, who had tried his pyrotechnic might, was slain by a well-placed strike to the heart.

The other three growl in anger swinging wildly with little effect.

Other people in the crowd don't fair as well. At least three are stuck with the rusty daggers the goblins are wielding as swords.

Zak's rapier skewers a nearby goblin. The other three in that little group scream at him in Goblinese. Well, it seemed close to that, mostly it was unintelligible.

They are quick little buggers, but none of the blades are deft enough to pierce Zak's defenses.

Catalena

Catalena was taken unaware, too caught up in the moment of celebration and anticipation of the Cathedral's rededication, and was flat-footed as the vicious green humanoids seemed to swarm out of every shadowy alley and from beneath every cart. This is bad, she thought, her eyes casting left and right, These defenseless people are sitting ducks for the goblins. They're everywhere.

She spotted Madame Niska Mvashti being helped by a young boy she didn't know toward the relative safety of a doorway, the elderly matron's daughter across the square with the other Desnan acolytes. Drawing her katana, Catalena rushed over to interpose herself between the old woman's escape and some maniacally tittering goblins. She saw Aendell, Zak, and Selaim throwing themselves against the invaders. Good on them, she thought. That should help even the odds but there are still far too many goblins.

Reflecting what she knew of the cretins, she'd recalled the words of one of her clan who'd also traveled the Varisian roads, how goblins and giants were generally black-hearted but they might be convinced to spare the life of a lonely rover for a song or tale well told. So, Catalena had taken pains to learn the gruff tongues of the tall and small, but this was hardly a moment to play at diplomacy. But, knowing well what goblins feared and hated most in the world, another idea came to her.

Catalena began to sing, but less so in the pleasant melodies she plied for her suppers in the Inns across the countryside, but in the brutish, harsh tongue and chanting, taunting style of Goblin music:

"Goblins come to human town,
Break the walls and burn them down
'Easy fun!' the chieftains cry
Humans run and humans die!

But what goblins did not see
Brings them naught but misery
Barks and growls and awful sounds
Goblin-killing giant hounds!

Jaws to tear off goblin legs
Paws to crush as goblin begs
Monsters from the blackest dream
'Time to flee!' the goblins scream!"

In her singing, a magic called out, and as she finished, she placed her fingers in her mouth to emit a shrill whistle. Immediately in answer, loping out from behind Maver Kesk's jewelry shop came a pack of slavering, black mastiffs. Built like miniature bulls of taught muscle and rage, they snapped their jaws, easily wide enough to tear out a goblin throat in one bite, glinting with rows of razor sharp teeth. Their cruel claws clacked on the cobbled square and they howled as they spotted the goblins and went for them like they were made of bacon.

Catalena casting Illusion with Performance, Ace

Lasts 5 rounds, -2 to disbelieve if the casting was a raise at 13 plus the Strong Modifier imposed penalty of -2 for total -4 to disbelieve

Catalena was careful to keep the pack within 8 yards edge to edge, steering them to chase goblins away from townsfolk while somehow never catching their quarries or trying to bite any brave enough to stand their ground.

Selaim strikes one goblin a death blow, covering her weapon in sticky black gore. Her offhand doesn't seem to find purchase on the little foes as they dodge and dance about.

Catalena begins to sing, magic being woven. The shrieking goblins' cries go up a notch if that is possible, as the spectral hounds come into view.

Two groups of additional goblins had entered the square at the far end, a mixture of torch bearers and bow-goblins. The hounds, though, give them pause. Almost as if one, they all hiss at the beasts, possibly trying to scare them off. To Catalena's eyes, both groups seem to believe in her illusion completely. They even fire a few arrows at the hounds, failing to strike any of them.

The 2nd round of initiative cards:
Catalena AS
Seliam QC
Aendell 10S
Coral 7D
Zak 6S
Guards 5H
Sheriff Belor 4D

There were 16 Goblins left from the ones in the square, and 8 more joined, making a grand total of 24 now. Though 8 are occupied by Catalena's spell.

Coincidently Catalena is first up this round followed by Seliam.

Catalena

The dogs seemed to be doing their job of buying people time to get away to safety. So Catalena cast her eyes about to see where she might be most needed. Selaim was with Aendell. Zachergillan seemed to be having no trouble yet avoiding the goblins' strikes. Her fellow guardsmen, however, were not succeeding particularly well at defending the people.

She ran over towards a farmer clutching a leg wound and called out in Goblin, "Which of you kobolds are big enough to dance with me?"

The goblin with the bloody dagger looked up, snarling back, "Who a kobold?!" as Catalena ended her sprint in a springing jeté, bringing her katana down upon it.

Illusion ends, unless extended, at end of her turn in 5th round.

Selaim's weapons swing about in furious arcs but fail to land on the spry little green goblins.

[OOC: Aendell is up!]

As the group looks around, more fires are sprouting from where green bobbing creatures are causing mayhem. Being a seaside town maybe they should have built out of something other than wood, but wood is plentiful and has been used for a lot of the buildings.

Aendell gives no ground to the slavering green fools in front of him. They growl and snarl, howl and harl, though what dragging on the ground is supposed to the tall human in armor is unclear. With a deft swing he lops the head off of one of the goblins. The blow is so devastating that his weapon buries itself in the torso of another.

The last remaining foe directly in front of the paladin spits on Aendell's boot and stabs at him repeatedly. Evidently his spittle had missed the boot and he steps in it, slipping and falling upon his own weapon to die death by impalement.

OOC: Absolutely correct, their Parry is 5, so 9 is one raise, and 13 is another. Technically that only offers one additional die of damage, which you rolled. So thank you. But because these are mostly one hit wonders, beat a Toughness of 4 and they collapse. I am going to rule the second raise takes out a second gobbo.

Good damage rolls, didn't bother to roll both the aces, because with the fumble, he takes his own life.
A - Gobbo Attack, Damage
Pandemonium rolled 1d6,1d4,1d4 and got 1, 4, 4

Coral is up with Zak on deck.

Go ahead and post in whatever you wish, the PCs are slightly separated so working alone mostly for the moment.

Oh and I have a map if we really require it, but I didn't think it was that big a deal. Let me know if I am wrong.

[OOC - Coral got a bit modified from first posting - so no area attacks at the moment]

Coral

Coral moved to join Aendell, as he stood like a beacon slaying goblins all around him.
Enhanced quite a bit by the face-painting of the dragon, her look was somehow very ferral.
Her normally short stubby fingers had been extended by claws almost as long as the fingers themselves, with whisps of smoke coming from them.

On the other side of the square the guards attack some of their opponents, woefully representing themselves.

Two guards scream out as they are stuck and sliced with the rusty daggers their foes bring to bear. It isn't clear if they are still alive.

The Sheriff is shocked when two of the men he works with every day collapse under the fury of the green foes' attacks. He misses his goblin.

The little buggers strike back, their weapons bouncing off his hard metal armor, finding no purchase.

He continues to swing at the green menace also not managing to find a target.

[OOC: Technically, the attack got a raise, and one of the damage dice was an ace. But since the goblin is splatted... we will call it good.

Saleim's weapons find purchase cutting down two more of the nearby foes. They gurgle and splash as they fall.

Normal goblins would probably flee in face of such force, yet these continue as slavering fools.

The group can hear horrible off-key singing. It is a mix of shirl voices caterwauling with excitement.

"Goblins Chew and Goblins Bite
Goblins Cut and Goblins Fight
Stab the dog and Cut the Horse
Goblins Eat and Take by Force!

Goblins Race and Goblins Jump
Goblins Slash and Goblins Bump
Burn the Skin and Mash the Head
Goblins Here and You be Dead!

Chase the Baby Catch the Pup
Bonk the Head to Shut it Up
Bones be Cracked Flesh be Stewed
We Be Goblins! You be Food!"

This is punctuated by flames reaching higher and higher around them.

Some of the locals, despite being frightened by the mayhem all around them, see to be trying to slow the spread of the flames.

Most of the locals cower and hide, though some have tried to run away.

Seliam is attacked by the one remaining defiant foe, his Rusty Dog Slicer not being so trusty. His weapon fails to find purchase on her magically arrayed form.

Aendell is faced with one remaining goblin that Seliam is handling. There are at least two other groups of 3 to 4 goblins each.

Now that he has a moment to observe while looking for his next target, the paladin skilled in battlefield tactics, notes that every group has a torchbearer. He also might notice that the goblins are singing their little song, potentially to maintain morale, though they don't look like they are going to run away. They are fighting to the death.

[OOC: Aendell is up! Followed by the Guards (which I will handle on Aendell's post, and then Catalena and Coral. Post in any order you desire. That will finish out this round.]

Aendell

"Kill the torchbearers!" He calls. Not certain it will do anything, but it seems unusual enough to draw his attention. Turning to Selaim he says in a confident and encouraging tone, "You've got this one". He then moves to the next larger group and strikes.

Aendell Attack

Zeim rolled d8,d6 and got 3, 1
Aendell Attack - Benny

Aendell Damage

Aendell strikes a goblin in the back as it is harassing a dog that is trying to cower under a wagon that is on fire. The dog has a couple of light cuts on its side and head.

The goblin wriggles on the sword before it expires. With a well-placed boot, the corpse is loosed from the blach gore-covered weapon.

His second swing cuts down the torchbearer of this group, the mayhem device sputtering on the ground next to another dead goblin. [OOC: Taking advantage of the raise.]

With only two goblins directly in front of him, they turn and try to harm the large human in metal armor. Aendell's deft use of his weapon prevents the goblins from harming the paladin in any meaningful way.

Two guards scramble trying to protect their fallen comrades. Catalena would know that Jorge, one of the surviving guards, manages to strike down a goblin, leaving 2 in front of them and Catalena. They flail and cruse in goblin but don't manage to harm anyone.

Coral

"You dare attack me?" She snarled in goblin at her four foes, and lashed out at two of them with her smoking claws.

Coral Attack (1 of 2) at -2 Attack (2 of 2) at -2
Angrboða rolled d6,d6,d6,d6 and got
2, 6, 6, 6

Coral Attack (1 of 2) at -2 Attack (2 of 2) at -2 raises
Angrboða rolled d6,d6,d6 and got
6, 6, 4

Coral Attack (1 of 2) at -2 Attack (2 of 2) at -2 raises
Angrboða rolled d6,d6 and got
6, 3

Coral Attack (1 of 2) at -2 Attack (2 of 2) at -2 raises
Angrboða rolled d6 and got
1

So a
6+6+6+1-2= 17 for attack 1, and 6+6+3-2 = 13 for attack 2

I have assumed that both are raises

Coral damage (1 of 2) at +2 damage (2 of 2) at +2
Angrboða rolled d4,d6,d6,d4,d6,d6 and got 4, 3, 2, 1, 5, 4

Coral damage (1 of 2) at +2 raise
Angrboða rolled d4 and got 2

so
13 damage attack 1 and 12 damage on attack 2

Coral intimidate remainder
Angrboða rolled d6,d6 and got 6, 3

Coral intimidate remainder raise
Angrboða rolled d6 and got 4

so a 10 for intimidate

Coral wades with fury into close proximity with the four foes about waist high.

From the outside, it is difficult to discern exactly what happens next. There is a spray of black ichor in all directions. The black smoking claws of the little girl seem demonic in origin and rake through goblin flesh and clothing without any hesitation. Anyone near by is covered it hot black splatter from the shredded foes.

When it clears, there are four split and torn corpses at the splatter-covered little girl's feet.

Though she has destroyed one group of foes, there are others around, and they see what she has done.

Contrary to any normal reaction, they snarl, bear their disgusting yellow teeth, and leap in her direction, though none are close enough to attack in this moment.

[OOC: Two raises on both of the gobbos, we will count that as four dead in rather hideous display of how fearsome Coral can be. grin

Catalena can attack the one left with the guards or move to another group.

To Recap we have 8 enthralled/annoyed by the illusion dogs.

6 gobbos are left from the original 20 that had come into the square.

Heck of a set of rolls Angr! Way to set the bar high!]

Catalena

Catalena looked at the two fallen guards and she was immediately reminded of the Harrowing she'd performed for a group of guards several weeks back. They had been enjoying an evening off and had been in high spirits. When Catalena had foreseen both The Avalanche and The Beating in correct alignment, she'd counseled them that there was a fight coming that would not go well for them. Apparently, she'd been convincing because two of the younger recruits resigned their positions and left town. Two who'd scoffed at her now lay at her feet.

She saw Sheriff Hemlock looking across the fray at the fallen men. Well, there was hope for them once the danger was passed. Even though she was no arbiter of Fate merely its messenger, when Desna chose to share her wisdom with her, Catalena felt the burden of Hemlock's blame. At this rate, she'd never complete her sentence.

"Well struck, Jorge," she grinned, grimly, as she thrust her katana at a remaining goblin from this group.

Catalena Katana attack - Fighting

Catalena Katana damage

Illusion ends, unless extended, at end of her turn in 5th round. This is round 3.

Zak skewers another foe adding to the kill list for little green goblins. They are not fairing well in this combat.

[OOC: Again, sorry about missing this.
Cat's does indeed hit with a 5. ]

Catalena takes out the last foe in front of the guards. They are free to lick their wounds, which might very well save the two men's lives.

As Catalena surveys the chaos in the square she sees a lone goblin in robes concentrating and pointing a gnarled staff at the dog illusion.

The goblin frowns and shakes the staff viciously when its efforts count for naught. For now the eight goblins are enmeshed in a fight for their lives with illusionary mastifs.

The goblin war chanter is completely surprised by the blitz attack by the paladin, who buries his weapon deep in the goblin's flank. The creature turns and hisses at Aendell. He calls out something in goblin.

Those who don't speak goblin know it is a command of some sort. Those that do understand "aid me" in the goblin tongue.

[OOC: I don't see the +2 to damage from the joker. Assuming it was missed, damage from the strike is 19, which is four wounds. Before you ask, he is still up. Though he is shaken.

Catalena

Catalena took stock of the situation around her. The dogs were still occupying the newly-arrived goblins, despite the efforts of the Warchanter. She felt some pride at seeing the nasty little shaman's frustration. Good doggies, she chuckled, as she mentally commanded a couple of them to show the Warchanter their butts.

Then she saw the tremendous strike from Aendell and determined that between him and Selaim and the dogs, those groups were in hand for the moment. Zachergillan seemed to be handling himself with aplomb, and, by the Spheres, was that Coral? Savagely tearing apart the goblins around her in terrifying fashion. She shuddered a bit. Still waters run deep, as they say, she thought.

Meanwhile, immediately around her, all the goblins had fallen and two guards. While there were still a dozen or so goblins nearby, the burden of Hemlock's blame was heavy upon her. She sank to one knee and raised her left arm, festooned with multicolored butterflies in Desna's honor, toward the Cathedral. She sang a song of gratitude in Elvish and then attempted to speedily reach out to each of the fallen guards.

In what is a devastating blow, the Paladin channels divine fury into his weapon and strikes with deadly accuracy. To everyone's surprise with what must be a mortal wound, the Warchanter continues to stand, though it is clear he is under duress and only calls for aid.

Seliam continues her push to clear the square of the little mayhem makers, and two more fall to her wicked blades.

Catalena gives a serious effort, and perspiration rolls off of her forehead. Yet she is able to put her hands on both guards, and it is immediately clear that they have been brought back from the brink of death. They will both live baring any other complications, like a burning wagon falling on them or something.

Zak skewers another of the little green foes as he casually walks by.

Even though there remain but three little goblins and one dying Warchanter they do not give up.

The Sheriff looks battle ready covered in black ichor. Stepping up he slices the head from another half-height green foe.

The guards thank Catalena for her assistance, and begin to rally.

The other two guards fight a guarding action for the three of them and keep the goblins from coming any closer.

The only goblin still up is the Warchanter, and barely.

The group can hear mayhem still happening in the little seaside town.

The square may be mostly clear, but the danger is far from over.

The cards for the next round are:
Round 4 8 Enthralled, 1 warchanter barely standing
Catalena KD
Sheriff Belor JD
Aendell 10D
Coral 5C
Zak 4D
Seliam 2S
Guards 2H
Coral 5C

I suspect Catalena, Belor, and Aendell will finish the immediate threat.

Catalena

Catalena called back to the recovering guards, "I expect ale and lots of it!" as she picked up her katana again and headed toward the goblins entangled with her dogs. She passed Zak on the way and said, "Zachergillan, let's deal with these before the dogs go back to the Plane of Slobber."

The thought of getting between Aendell and his chosen enemy felt disrespectful, but more so, made a poor epic poem, so she charged through the dogs as they parted in front of her in choreographic synchronicity that seemed like random motion. Hoping that the distraction of fighting the dogs might lower the goblins' defenses, she attempted to strike at more than one.

Catalena has to work extra hard, pulling upon her spiritual resources, but she does manage to hit two goblins. Both of which collapse from their wounds.

The illusionary dogs continue to harass the little green foes, only making them more furious by the moment.

The Sheriff moved to assist with the distracted goblins, striking one down by stabbing it in the leg.

Sheriff offers at least a +1 Gang up Bonus, and others may add to this and to their own attacks as they concentrate on one foe.

[OOC ; If the warchanter is still standing, she'll attck him, else she'll try to whittle down the number of goblins]

Coral

Coral joined the fray, intent on taking out any goblins she encountered, with a flurry of sharp smoking claws - concentrating more on hitting than on creating massive damage.

Coral Desperate attacks (+4) 1of 2, 2 of 2 (-2)
Angrboða rolled d6,d6,d6,d6 and got 4, 5, 2, 4

so a 7 and a 6

Coral Desperate attacks damage (-4)(+2) 1of 2, 2 of 2
Angrboða rolled d6,d4,d6,d4 and got 2, 1, 1, 4

Coral Desperate attacks damage, 2 of 2 raise
Angrboða rolled d4 and got 4

Coral Desperate attacks damage, 2 of 2 raise+
Angrboða rolled d4 and got 2

first attack - damage 2+1-4+2=1
second attack damage 1+4+4+2-4+2 = 9

Aendell succeeds and strikes the Warchanter down. When the paladin pulls his blade from the creature the ichor is green-ish purple. Something was definitely different about this creature.

Coral turns to the goblins and joins the gang up on them. Adding her attacks to the sheriff's and Catalena's, allows both of her attacks to hit. Two more of the green foes fall to her smoking claws.

The remaining three goblins choose to attack the little girl as she seems the most vulnerable. Little do they know. They are experts at flailing, and completely miss her.

[OOC: Zak and Seliam each nick a goblin, though one is left as Coral's action comes up, if you wish to change your character's action. If not, I don't need to draw cards for this round, as the last goblin will be taken by someone, which anyone can write up.]

Assuming the last goblin is dispatched the group look around at the square. Carnage lies everywhere, wagons and buildings burning. Already a few of the locals are gathering water and trying to douse some of the flames.

[OOC: What do you do? And note, your benny counts are still valid, don't worry about them going away just this second.]

Coral

She watched one of the guards finish off the final goblin, and relaxed enought to draw in her claws.
She stayed where she stood and slowly looked around for more trouble. It seemed such a purposeless attack, that she felt that there must be something else.

She knew she looked a sight, her dress and her head and arms covered in ichor.

“Heads up people. Goblins are basically cowards, I doubt they got this idea on their own and I doubt we’re done with the trouble.”

He checks on coral.

“Most of that is theirs, right? You good?”

Aendell

Having dispatched the Warchanter, he turns to deal with more foes only to see the last Goblin being taken care of by the guards. He breathes a sigh of relief, but nods at Zak's observation. Looking around to check on the others he finds Selaim near by and he offers her a small smile. "Well done Selaim. As much as you complain about practice, I see you take it to heart."

Pausing a moment to look her up and down, he notes none of the blood on her seems to be hers, and with another nod he looks to see if there are any wounded towns people who need his help.

Coral

She ran her stubby fingers over her shoulders, neck and arms, searching for cuts and nicks, smearing the ichor as she did.

"I think that all of it is theirs," she replied to Zak. "I don't think any ... Oh wait."

She slowed her fingers on one arm and a shoulder.
"They broke my skin in two places," she added, with a smile that, combined with her face-paint and dripping ichor, just made her look more ferral, "but there's no bleeding."

"But they attacked me ..." she replied sweetly to Zak, with an attempt at her usual 'innocent little girl' look that was seriously undermined by the gore that she was covered in.

With a sparkle in her eyes, she added, "My old master would have been proud."

Catalena

Catalena wiped her blade on the ragged cloak of a dead goblin and set the dogs to investigating and barking at dark nooks and crannies. Maybe if there were still foes hiding from view, they'd get spooked enough to reveal themselves.

Then she turned back to help extinguish the flames at the carts. Poor Mr. Pont's linens, including the lengths she'd already paid for had taken damage. But even her silk would have to wait as she first made sure that any injured people in the square were out of mortal danger.

Zak:

“If they were, they would be a rather good one, wouldn’t they? It’s like a dropped plate shattering in the kitchen, everyone looks for the source of the noise and no longer looks at anything else. It’s how the extra biscuits got taken at breakfast back in the orphanage in my day. Goblins in the festival are excellent in that regard. I’d say it’s likely most of the guard is here. While the guard is here doing their due duty protecting the citizens, what is going unguarded?”

He still was looking around for any sign of trouble or unattended wounded while talking.

With the fighting done she looks around to find her bearing. Aendell off to check on the wounded. She watches him go as she cleans her weapons off on a bit of cloth. Still looking around She spies Zak's green head and then Coral. Then rushes over.

"Are you alright?" she asks her friend looking her over for wounds. Glancing at Zak after satisfying herself that Coral was fine.

"See anything else?" she asks the gnome her hands going back to her falcatas.

The people begin to recover. Some assist others with their wounds. Others came out from hiding beneath wagons and next to buildings.

Coral is talking with Zak and is suspicious of the goblin uprising. Nothing like this should happen in a civilized town. Zak also agrees with that sentiment.

As they consider who to help or what to do next, most folks are putting out fires, which seems the most important element at this moment.

Suddenly, they hear a horrible, whiny growl.

[Linked Image]

Just when you thought Combat was over...
Wardog initiative
Coral Red Joker +2 to Damage +1 Benny to the PCs
Goblin Wardog Rider KH
Seliam 9C
Catalena 6S
Zak 4C
Aendell 2S

Coral can react before the Rider gets to act. Consider him at medium range, nothing a sprint wouldn't defeat, but only ranged weapons can attack immediately. Either he moves, which he can move faster than the PCs, or the PCs double move essentially and are unable to attack. Though you could sprint (double move) and attack with a -2 on the attack.

Coral

Coral saw the new threat, and with her claws instinctively coming out, sprinted at the warg and slashed at it.

Coral two desperate attacks(+4) on warg [-4 for 3 actions incl sprint]
Angrboða rolled d6,d6,d6,d6 and got 5, 5, 5, 1

That is not going to cut it ...
Use a benni

Benni Coral Two desperate attacks(+4) on warg [-4 for 3 actions incl sprint]
Angrboða rolled d6,d6,d6,d6 and got 3, 4, 4, 6

So a 4 and a 9 to hit.

Coral Damage

[ in here there is a -4 from the frantic attack and a +4 from her smite spell]

Coral damage: attack 1,attack 2
Angrboða rolled d6,d4,d6,d4 and got 4, 4, 4, 4

Coral damage: attack 1,attack 2 aces
Angrboða rolled d4,d4 and got 3, 4

Coral damage: attack 2 ace
Angrboða rolled d4 and got 2

So 11 on attack 1, 14 on attack 2

Pah!!

The disadvantage of message gaming and not knowing that you have hit.

Oh ...
I completely missed that I had a joker.
So +2 to hit and +2 to damage

So the first blow is a hit as well.

13 damage on attack 1, 17 on attack 2

[OOC: That is my fault for not letting you know up front.

It has also been pointed out that I might have been looking at Jokers incorrectly. You should get +2 to trait rolls, which of course includes attacks, so each of your rolls are +2 to hit, and +2 to damage.

Feel free to redo the math, save any bennies as necessary, help me understand. grin ]

Two desperate attacks - each (+4 from desperate attack ) [-4 for 3 actions attack, attack, sprint] {+2 for joker} net +2

Damage from the desperate attacks - (-4 from desperate attack ) [+4 from smite spell] {+2 for joker} net +2

[OOC: I was wrong the Goblin has Parry 6, Toughness 8. The dog on the other hand Parry 5, Toughness 6.]

The Wardog shudders as the little fiend's claws rake across its almost emaciated body. Rifts of blood sprout from the lacerations that Coral opened up in the beast. Its four little legs slid out from underneath it, and down it goes, toppling the goblin and his makeshift looking weapon.

On another creature the weapon is small, but looks halberd like on that creature.

Quickly scrambling to his feat, he brings his weapon in a crosswise stroke attempting to hit the little girl.

End result 1 Wound on the first hit, 2 wounds on the second, making 3 wounds, which kills the dog.
Shaken, 2 wounds, Shaken (can't have it twice) 3 wounds before Vigor
Dog Vigor, Vigor

That means Seliam is up with Catalena on deck.

Catalena

Catelena turned from throwing a tin pot of water onto a burning wagon at the sound of the weird whining growl of the goblin's mount.

"Excuse me," she said, to the others helping, dropping the pot, and running toward the parody of a cavalier. She whistled her illusionary mastiffs around her and sent them speeding ahead to try to circle the goblin just as she saw his mount fall to the terrifying onslaught of Coral.

As she got within a half-dozen yards of the goblin, her steps slowed as she entered his vision and became more deliberate, until with one leg raised, she began a stylish pirouette. Her voice called out to him in wordless song as her arms reached out in exaggerated gestures toward him.

Zak's rapier snicks out and draws blood striking the feeling robed figure in the back. The wound is light, but enough to slow the goblin's escape.

Aendell notices the ensuing combat.

No Need for Aendell to roll Notice, it is pretty obvious at this point.

The Goblin Warchanter's Parry is 5, Toughness 6.

No damage from Zak's rapier, but only 1 bennie needed to be spent for the reroll.

Do me a favor and put a summary at the top of the rolls, so that I can see to hit, and damage at a quick glance, when you post. Aendell is up!

Unless things go entirely awry, this will be the last foe faced in this combat, fyi.

(OOC As I understand things: Cat Taunted the rider into being Vulnerable and Shaken. She was not yet aware of the Warchanter. The rider also fell prone maybe as a result of the Taunt and the mount falling. I don't think the Warchanter is Vulnerable, just Shaken, from Zak's hit. I think there are still both goblins, but Pande knows what's really happening smile.)

[OOC: Yes the GM got his wires crossed.

Goblin commando is Shaken, not stirred, but Vulnerable (offering +2 to attacks on him) nor wounded.

The Warchanter is Shaken.

Aendell can attack either of them, his choice. Go ahead and reroll since I am retconning a bit. Once Aendell goes, they get to attempt to unshake, and potentially deal with any wounds that might have occurred. ]

Goblin Commando takes 2 wounds, He recovers from the Shaken condition, and Vulnerable falls away as well on his turn.
Which means Catalena gets the +2, then if he doesn't go down, he looses Vulnerable.

Goblin Warchanter will recover from Shaken but acts very late in the round, so opportunity abounds.

GC Spirit, Vigor
Pandemonium rolled 1d6,1d6 and got 1, 6
GC Vigor Ace
Pandemonium rolled 1d6 and got 1
GWC Spirit, Vigor
Pandemonium rolled 1d6,1d6 and got 5, 2

New Round initiative.

Catalena KS
Selaim AS
GC 8C
Zak 6S
GWC 3S
Coral 2S
Aendell 2D

Catalena

Catalena continued her dance, using the momentum of the pirouette into a series of tours jetés that carried her the remaining distance to the slack-jawed goblin, her final jump turn including a smooth unsheathing of her katana which she brought down upon him in a two-handed cross-cut.

Catalena Katana attack +2 Vulnerable, +1 Gang Up from Aendell
Vryx rolled d8+3,d6+3 and got 4, 5 (ooh, almost a bumble)
Attack: 5
Catalena Katana damage
Vryx rolled d6,d6+1 and got 4, 7
Catalena Katana damage Ace
Vryx rolled d6 and got 2
Damage: 13

Illusion ends, unless extended, at end of her turn in 10th round. This is round 9.
Spend two bennies to get back 10 Power Points, returning her to maximum.

The dogs howled in unison.

(ooc Miales, go for the commando. I'd hoped by making him vulnerable you'd get a chance to use your sneak attack bonus damage, and I missed anyway)

Selaim

Selaim in catching up with the rest sees the Commando sorely injured by the combined attacks of Cat and Aendell. Out of the corner of her eye she sees the gnome battling the other goblin. But the Commando is closer. Leaping over the fallen war dog she brings her falcatas to bear from behind on the Commando attempting to open him up from shoulder to hip.

Selaim Main Falcata attack
Miales rolled d8,d6 and got 3, 5

Selaim Main Falcata attack (bennie) just in case
Miales rolled d8,d6 and got 8, 4

Selaim Main Falcata attack ace
Miales rolled d8 and got 5

Selaim Main Falcata damage
Miales rolled d6,d6 and got 3, 3

Selaim Main Raise

Selaim Offhand Falcata attack (bennie)

(ooc Miales, Selaim's turn is a bit better than that, I think.

As a rogue she gets sneak attack damage when target is Vulnerable. That's why I used Taunt. She also didn't count either the +2 Vulnerable or +2 Gang Up bonuses.

The first attack hit with a raise 13 above but should be 17 and the damage is 10 plus another 1d6 sneak attack.

The second attack would miss with a 5 above but should be 9 which would hit. That damage is 9 plus another 1d6 for sneak attack.)

So with that in mind...
I guess I add the following rolls to the damage

Selaim Sneak attack main
Miales rolled 1d6 and got 3

Selaim Sneak attack off hand
Miales rolled 1d6 and got 1

So the main damage should be 13

And Offhand is 10

The goblin command is struck twice in the back by the wily Selaim. Both weapons draw blood, the lacerations running freely. The creature falls to his knees and then onto his face, quite dead.

Goblin Commando takes two more wounds, totaling 3, he is gone.

Zak is up next, right before the Goblin Warchanter. Parry 5, Toughness 6, currently Shaken. He will unshake, at the start of his turn.

The warchanter recovers from the drastic blow he suffered a moment ago. He bares his teeth in a snarl at the group of foes who have hemmed him in. "Pay," he says simply. He brings his hands together and a thunderous clap echoes outward, rebounding off the nearby walls.

Vigor roll for those nearby the GWC (IE attacking him) or be stunned. Target is only a 4 or better. Don't forget your Wild Die!

Coral reacted to the next threat, and sprinted at the goblin mage and slashed at it.

Coral two desperate attacks(+4) on GWC [-4 for 3 actions incl sprint]

Coral attack goblin WC twice
Angrboða rolled d6,d6,d6,d6 and got 2, 1, 3, 5

Not great - try again ...

Coral attack goblin WC twice benni
Angrboða rolled d6,d6,d6,d6 and got 4, 5, 4, 4

damage +4 from smite -4 from desperate attack

Coral damage goblin WC
Angrboða rolled d4,d6 and got 3, 3

so a 6

Coral damage goblin WC 2nd attack - should it have hit
Angrboða rolled d4,d6 and got 1, 1

[OOC: For Coral, if I understand, her attacks are straight up. +4 wipes the -4, correct? If so, the 2nd attack on the first roll hits. That means just one benny is needed, which the first roll pair hits, so two hits. However, her hit pushes on Toughness, so she doesn't draw blood.

Aendell, however, does hit and does damage. There is insufficient damage to get a raise, so GWC is only Shaken.

I forgot to remove the Goblin Commando from the draw. Too bad he got a Red Joker. grin

Selaim AH
GWC QH
Zak QD
Catalena 7D
Aendell 8S
Coral 6D

Selaim is hot with Aces and up first!

In the New Round, anyone who was near the GWC when he did his spell has to make a Vigor check before they act or be stunned. I know that means Zak needs to. I don't think anyone else was close when he did his spell, right?]

Angrboða rolled d6,d6,d6,d6 and got 1, 3, 6, 1

Angrboða rolled d6 and got 2

so a 5 for attack 1 and a 10 for attack 2

Damage [-4 for desperate, +4 for smite]

Coral Two attacks (desperate) damage 2nd with raise
Angrboða rolled d6,d4,d6,d4,d6 and got 2, 2, 2, 4, 6

Coral Two attacks (desperate) damage 2nd with raise aces
Angrboða rolled d4,d6 and got 1, 6

Coral Two attacks (desperate) damage 2nd with raise aces
Angrboða rolled d6 and got 6

Coral Two attacks (desperate) damage 2nd with raise aces
Angrboða rolled d6 and got 3

so a 4 for attack 1 - bounces
and a 28 for attack 2

Catalena

Catalena finished her dance performance with the demise of her audience at the blade-points of the elven rogue.

"Ah, a pitch-perfect accompaniment, Selaim," she remarked, in Elven, then continued in Common. "We should perform this duet again, should another suitable and deserving patron arise."

Then, turning to see the activity around the heretofore hidden goblin warchanter, she espied a friend in need.

"Zachergillan!" she cried, and then ran to his side to pull him from danger as he recovered.

Her dogs followed her and then continued down the alley the goblin had been hiding in, their barks fading away as they turned the corner and disappeared from view.

Illusion ends at end of her turn.

Aendell's weapon cuts the goblin down who collapses from the horrific wound left by the sword.

Not to be out done, Coral leaps upon the fallen foe, and literally shreds the body to pieces.

Again those that are close by get covered in black ichor.

The people of the town seem to have survived the assault, what will the heroes do?

GWC was Shaken when Aendell hit him, which offers 3 wounds. That will kill this one.
However we don't want to ignore the little ole 28.

Combat is officially over, all may recover and do a Golden Hour bind of wounds or healing as necessary. You have plenty of fallen foes.

She pulled in her claws, and brushed the larger pieces of gore off herself. But little of her red hair was actually visible, and both her arms were smeared in blood.

"I think I need to take a dip in the sea," she commented, "and get most of this off."

Selaim

She'd been so focused on the enemy in front it wasn't until the guard reminded her of the enemy to the side. She saw Zak. She was nearly stunned imobile knowing that she needed to act but saw that other members of the party were much closer to the asction. She started to run to them when Aendell cut the goblin down and Coral finished whatever was left.

Zak:

He shook his head as he slowly came back.

“… made insensible by a goblin. What am I coming to.”

He nods his thanks to those that moved in to help him.

He looks around.

“Again. I’m pretty sure this isn’t normal. Everything I hear about goblins, they’d only come in like this if they had overwhelming advantage.”

He starts moving around looking for people who needed patching up.

Catalena

"I agree," Catalena replied to Zak, resheathing her katana, unbloodied in the second skirmish. "Insane little buggers were seemingly on a suicide mission here. While I wouldn't put it past them to die for the sake of a little havoc, they're generally selfish and obstreperous. So why did they do it? I wonder what tribe they are from?"

Catalena headed back alongside Zak to continue to help with the fires but took her time looking over the goblins' garb and accoutrements to see if she recognized any of the local goblin tribes' markings.

Catalena Common Knowledge - local Goblin tribes
Vryx rolled d6,d6 and got 5, 6
Catalena Common Knowledge - local Goblin tribes Ace
Vryx rolled d6 and got 2
Common Knowledge: 8
Hope it's ok I went ahead and rolled. I won't be avail a lot this evening or weekend.

((OOC Sorry Miales, I didn't double-check the initiative myself to see you hadn't taken your turn yet. We'll get it all smoother eventually.))

Catalena knows for a fact that in her history, there have never been any incursions like this. This is further confirmed that she sees a tree tattoo on some, a scar that looks like a road on others, and a red burn mark on even more. As she looks around, there are at least five different tribes of goblins that she can count quickly.

Without the mayhem of the goblins, the townspeople are beginning to make headway against the fires in this little wooden seaside village. With some help from the heroes, which the townspeople are now thanking them and calling them heroes, the fires are able to be put out.

It takes some time, and the sun is falling towards the horizon when it is done.

Both the Sheriff and the Mayor make personal appearances to say a very personal and appreciative thank you to each hero.

One man whom Aendell saved is dressed in dirty blue finery. "Come to the Rusty Dragon tonight, and I will buy you all a round for saving my life!" He said in a somewhat shakey voice.

Coral

She avoided people as she walked, and covered in the ichor that she was, people avoided her as she made her way to the beach and walked into the sea.
The nicks and scratches where the goblin weapons had broken her skin stang in the salt water, which helped her identify them and clean them, as she washed all the ichor from her hair, body, and clothes in the sea water.

Now, clean - but soaking wet - she made her way back to join the others once more.

Catalena

"Well, that's quite strange," Catalena remarked, being sure to point out to both Sheriff Hemlock and Zachergillan that the goblins came from multiple tribes. As to why rival factions would be suddenly cooperative, she left such ponderings to the Sheriff, along with the worry of what that might mean for Sandpoint.

She was tired, having been up since well before dawn, the reward of enjoying the afternoon's rededication ceremony of the Cathedral now gone along with her fine fabric she'd hoped to be wearing in a few weeks. Despite her disappointment, she thanked Desna for the fact that no one had lost their lives other than the goblins.

Cat appreciated the thanks from Mayor Deverin and grudging respect from Hemlock. Alas, no such luck that her performance today might take some time off her sentence. In fact, he'd said, and she didn't think he was capable of a joke, she might need to stay on longer until the other men were trained up better in light of this new threat. She sighed, and, as the sun went down, found herself finally off-duty and headed for the comforts of the Rusty Dragon.

She had asked Aendell if he still wanted a Harrowing this day, now that the afternoon had gone. A promise was a promise. "But," she added, "It will have to be soon because I plan to drink until I can no longer remember the smell of those goblin corpses I'd had to clear from town."

Selaim

She tried to hide in the shadows when the Mayor and Sheriff came over to the group to check on them and thank them for helping the town. She looked over to her friend horrified to see her covered in blood and ichor. Then followed her to the sea where Coral washed up. SHe stood watch as her friend bathed cleaning her falcatas with a scrap of cloth she'd found not wanting to wash them in the salty water.

As she cleaned her weapons she relived some of the fight. Standing beside Aendell and fighting the first group. They had worked well together and she felt that she helped him with his fight. That fight was more similar to the training they'd done since he learned of his weapons. Her arms would be sore the next day. That she knew. Her mind drifted to the second part of the fight. Coral taking off like a feral beast. The guard Zak knew dancing with her blade and opening things up for Selaim to sneak up behind the goblin.

That had felt good to use some of the things she learned on the streets to help. But what had not felt good was realizing that she'd been so focused on the goblin in front of her was that she was too late in helping her friends when the fight shifted at the end. Even if it had only been Zak who'd been hurt she should have been there.

SHhe gave Coral some space as they walked back to the group. Selaim quiet to let her friend process. Not knowing what to say to the girl. As they near the square where the fighting took place she looks around to find Zak. Seeing the blue haired half pint near some people she approaches.

"I'm sor..." she starts to apologize to him but trails off to ask. "How are you doing?"

Zak:

He catches her eyes and looks directly into them, and is using a serious tone that is not characteristic of him.

“I’m good, Selaim. You have nothing to apologize for. There were more important things in this square than me.”

He motions around to the various guards and whatever citizens might still be around.

“You were busy helping them. And that was a good thing, Selaim. Not surprising , but certainly gratifying. Felt good, didn’t it?”

Then he breaks into his characteristic grin.

“Besides, I never knew you were that much of a dancer. Put my pointy little stick to shame.”

He says, patting his sheathed rapier.

He moves around the square, offering healing to those in need. As he does, he encounters the others and pats Selaim on the back, with a "well done" comment. He raises an eyebrow at Catalena's observation but doesn't have time to dwell on what it might mean just yet, although he does nod in response to her question about the Harrowing.

No-one was paying her much attention - which was the way she liked it.
She decided to see what she could get out of the siutation: she decided that food or money were inappropriate , and opted for good standing with the mayor.

Selaim was still trying to process Zak's reaction when she felt Aendell's pat on the back and heard the whispered "Well done." She watched him go to help more people. Stuttering something to Zak she went off to help remove the bodies of the goblins and help people.

"Why would them being from separate tribes be strange?" she asks as she helps move a body.

Catalena

Catalena was hauling a dead goblin toward one of the red wagons one of Gorvi's boys had helpfully parked in the center of Cathedral square. She dragged it along the ground by one foot not out of a particular contempt but because she didn't want the corpse discharging fluids all over her clothing. The goblins were foul enough when they were alive. When she saw Selaim joining in, she laughed, and said in Elven, "Oh, that is kind of you Selaim. But really, not necessary. You're supposed to be our guest and you've already been of great service. Let us grunts handle the dirty work."

Speaking of which, she saw Gorvi's boy lounging in the shade. "Oi!" she called over in Common, dropping the body next to the cart. "Help a lady out, eh? I just don't think I'm strong enough to do it," she added, sweetly, while rolling her eyes and giving Selaim a wink.

"These guys are artistes of torpidity," she said to Selaim, quietly, as she saw the man haul himself up to head over. "All he's going to do is dump them over Junker's Edge anyway. Some of these goblins actually make a bit of business down there picking the trash."

She turned to walk away to get another one, continuing the conversation to Selaim. "Why is it strange that they are from different tribes? Well, goblins are disorganized in general, if I can term them kindly, insane and feral if I'm being honest and they squabble like rats even within their own families, even to the point of killing one another over something pointless. Life is cheap for them. But the tribes are separate for a reason. They hate one another... the swamp tribe often wars with the beach tribe who hates the forest tribe, and so on. So, seeing all of them together, fighting as one? Quite strange. And disturbing because there are quite a lot of them and their own internecine battles help keep us safe."

Coral

Having created, what she hoped, was a good impression with the mayor, Coral did what she did best - look like a sweet, innocent and helpless young girl - lost in a big world.

She headed off in the direction the goblins had appeared from, to see if she could find how they had got into the town. She wondered if they had scaled the walls - whcih seemed unlikely, or overwhelmed the gate guards.

The Goblins appeared all around the main square, seemingly sprouting up from thin air. The only indicator as to where they might have come from was the Goblin Warchanter that tried to make an escape and was caught.

Catalena

After Aendell nodded his assent to a Harrowing, Catalena replied that it would best be done back at the Rusty Dragon. She requested as well, quite seriously, that he spend his time thinking what his question was so it was firmly in his mind for when they met.

(OOC Sorry for two posts, but I'd forgotten I'd wanted to reply to Zeim. Zeim, can you give me a heads-up ooc as to what Aendell wants to know? There's some preparation I'd want to do before I write up that scene and the question affects the Choosing.

As far as trying to investigate where the goblins came from, I think Catalena is too occupied at the moment and also tends not to be particularly inquisitive as a person)

AFter having her load removed she looked around to see whaere the rest of the group was. Seeing Aendell helping the wounded she starts in that direction but notices Coral wandering off alone then Zak following her.

"What are you doing you lech?" she asks herself. "Was she wrong to start trusting him again?"

She changes direction and heads to catch up with her friend at a light jog wanting to get to Coral but holding up when she catches up to Zak to walk with him as they follow Coral.

"What is she doing?" she asks the gnome.

“Well.”

Zak said.

“As this is the direction they came from I think perhaps she is trying to find where they came in. And I don’t think she should risk that alone, do you?”

"Likely stor..." She starts to think but shuts that line down. She looks over and sees the concern on the gnome and realizes he was being truthful.

"No, she doesn't."

There are still people that need aid in and around the square.

Many people suffered minor burns and or slashes. Most are pretty easy to bind and take care of. The majority of the effort is in trying to keep the seaside town from burning down. Very few buildings are actually stone, most are wood.

Selaim, Zak, and Coral head around the corner and look for any kind of a sign of where the War chanter had been running off to.

A block or two from the square, they realize there are very little signs of anyone other than normal townspeople having visited. In fact as they examine the area, most of the trouble occurred at the square in front of the new church right at the time the thunderstone was used to get everyone's attention. The release of the swallowtail butterflies happened, but most missed it as they were too busy dealing with the little green mayhem creators.

Just when the trio feels like they have nothing else they can find, they see the spoor of some kind of a creature. It doesn't take a genius to realize that is the dung from the rat dog thing that one of the goblins was riding.

Given that they see that the rider must have come from the direction of the north wall. Though a dog climbing a wall is an interesting concept, most wouldn't do that very well.

Anyone who knows the town also knows the cemetery is in that direction as well.

"Let's go that way," suggested, not knowing the town well, and not waiting for an answer.

As they walk along people are trying to clean up from the mayhem that the goblins had caused. Remarkably most people are not hurt.

They do find two dead dogs as they go through, obviously skewered by the little rusty knives the creatures were wielding.

In a moment they are at the edge of the cemetery. It borders the north wall of the town.

[OOC: The three of you can make a notice check.]

Aendell

Wiping a bloody hand on a rag he stands up and sees things are seemingly being taken care of now. He thought he saw his companions head off to his left so he stands up and moves off in that direction.

Selaim notes that there are tracks across the grass of the cemetery. At least some of the goblins came from over the wall and through the hallowed ground. She may not realize it being new to the town but this is the only section of the town protected by a wall, which would be more challenging entry point than many others.

Aendell is able to catch up and sees them starting across the headstone dotted plane.

"The tracks run this way," she points out as she leads them into the graveyard until they get to the wall.

"So it looks like they climbed over the wall here to get in the city. Wait we didn't have to pass any gates to get into town just cross a bridge. Why did they come in this way?"

As they examine the tracks a bit more, it seems that many are in and around a couple of the larger crypts. One in particular Tobyn family seems to have a bit more attention. People might note he was one of the founders of Sandpoint. The metal doors stand askew.

Near the wall they spot a ladder as well, a quick look tells them that a ladder is on each side of the north wall.

"Let's look in the crypts," she suggested, and, without bothering to wait for agreement, headed off towards them.

"Maybe the goblins were just a distraction for grave-robbers," she suggested.

"Uh ... what?" she asked, somewhat confused that someone would challenge what to her was the blindingly obvious course of action.
"Sorry, what?" she asked again, wondering who to direct her question towards.
