He shrugged and started gathering his 'gear'. "I'll join you."

Jaliera

She takes one look at Davroar curled up snugly but then decides that she is already awake and she would have to sit outside to maintain contact with Whisper, so she might as well go. She likes Zhu.

"I'll come too. I can be sneaky so I might be able to help and I'll have Whisper as back up."

She gets her gear on.

Zhu

She nods to Bern and Jaliera. "Three should be a good amount. Not too many to spook whoever it is but enough for safety." She steps outside the Hut and waits for the other two to join her.

Zindra
She had noticed. She would investigate and stepped outside with Zhu.

Zhu

When Zindra rises and says she will go as well, Zhu pauses then points. "It is that way. Whisper should be able to see the campfire easily. I will stay here and keep watch. No need for so many to go and those who stay here in the hut will need a watcher."

Sindar

Always a light sleeper he rouses at the soft whispering. He is content to wait as necessary.

OOC: I had intended to include all who wished to be included in the Tiny Hut, to do so. The point was for everyone to have a way to use it, so he would have waited on the Triton. In addition it is only good for eight hours, so he had to time it exactly for them to get as much rest as possible.

"I'll just get Whisper to go investigate and report back before we all set out. That way we know what and how many to expect."

And so she instructs her tiny friend.

Whisper takes the direction to "investigate and report back" and flies off in the direction of the distant fire.

After several minutes, the familiar returns to Jaliera's side, and communicates several mental images with her telepathically. While they aren't as detailed as the visions in the Yartar sewers, they are sufficient to identify numbers and types of things seen. The images include 5 medium humanoid creatures, one large feline creature, and one dead cervid creature, whose meat was being cut up, some of it cooking over the fire. There is also an image of a large hand cart.

[OOC: Well technically Sindar needs the long rest because he cast Leomund's Tiny Hut. That will be an ongoing thing if they want to use it each night. ]

(OOC - Not if you did it as a Ritual. Rituals take longer to cast but don't count against your spells.)

[OOC: See another thing about 5e I didn't know. I knew the spell was designated as a ritual, but really I had no idea what that meant. Thanks!]

Jaliera

She relates what Whisper had seen.

"Not sure what the large feline is. Curious. I guess we go take a look?"

"Is there a reason you think we need to 'check them out'?

"There is always value in being aware of what's going on around us. I'll hold the fort here." the Dragonborn noble said from his place of rest.

He shrugged and got ready to move out when the others were ready.

DM

Zindra, Bern, Jaliera and Whisper set out to get a closer look at the distant fire and the party around it.

As they walk the mile-or-so, they undoubtably discuss what they'll do when they get closer...

Jaliera

"Not sure what spells you have Zhu but I am pretty sneaky and could move closer for a better look when we get there."

She sends Whisper aloft to fly ahead of them within communication range.

"I am not real 'sneaky' so I will hang back and cover you with my bow."

Bern is +6 to stealth. Just sayin'.


Zindra
She begins to head out, assuming that Bern and Jaliera are joining him. She can see in the dark and knows that Jaliera needs to stop and concentrate on Whisper in order to see through her eyes and hear what she hears, so she will lead them close enough so that Jaliera can use Whisper effectively to get a better sense of what they are dealing with.

As the trio moves closer with occasional stops for Jaliera to observe through Whisper's eyes, more detail of the encampment and the actions there are evident. By the halfway point, about a half-mile away, a detailed picture has emerged:

The humanoid creatures are indeed humans, although of the larger variety equipped with leather armor. Two have swords; three have bows. Four of the five are involved in activities near the fire, while the fifth appears to be the designated watchman, aided by making hand signals that the feline creature appears to understand and follow, stalking away from the fire to scout much in the same way Jaliera employed Whisper hours earlier.

The dead creature appears to be an elk, and one of the humans is cutting its meat into thin strips with his dagger, which are being hung on a tented makeshift frame by another, with the glow of embers relocated from the fire to underneath that frame. A few larger pieces of meat can be seen in sequential stops being cooked on a spit, and eaten, accompanied by drink in goblets filled from a keg on the cart.

The humans, other than the watchman, appear in a good mood, conversing with each other (although it's too far to make out any words) and occasionally laughing.

The large cat isn't always visible when Jaliera/Whisper look, at least anywhere in the near vicinity of the fire. It's rather large, about three feet high and eight feet long, larger even than any of its human companions. It's a lighter color, likely grey, more easily seen near the fire.

Zindra

"Barbarians," she whispered to Bern and Jaliera when Jaliera reported what she saw. "There are many different tribes. If they feel threatened at all, there could be unnecessary bloodshed."

<Bern>

"Well it doesn't seem like they are preparing for something bad", he offered.

Jaliera

"Why don't I go and talk to them? Probably the only way we'll find out anything useful."

That big cat is fascinating.

<Bern>

"Sounds reasonable", he said with a nod. "I'll keep watch from here", he said getting his bow ready
