There are moments of silence. The odd dripping sound from condensation, the footsteps of the advancing heroes, the flickering of the flaming sphere are the only sounds in that moment.

Arus glances into the pool which was home to the muck-dwelling monster. Surely it had gotten it's tentacles around many others in the past. An otyugh must eat and they have a hearty appetite. A few seconds of glancing about had only revealed that the one pool was one of many and that there were narrow side passages in it's lair. Examining that would take more than a minute or two.

While Arus was focused on the monster he had just slain, Zhu was the one that saw something just on the other side of the flaming sphere. It was a webbed hand and the top of a head that peered up from the sewer water on the other side of the walkway where the sphere rested. Clearly the humanoid was lying in wait.

Sindar had his eyes peeled and it was fortunate that his lineage gave him darkvision. The humans, and Kriv, did not have that he had to know that they had to rely on him, Arus and Zhu in situations like this. Jaliera had Whisper but she was moving and could not see through the owl's eyes while on the move.

It was a ripple in the water, far beyond the flaming sphere, at the far end of the sewers, almost at the end of his vision. Something was in the water there. It had not poked it's head up. It had tried to stay hidden, but Sindar was sure it was there.

ooc: Zhu can act on her readied action. The target has 75% cover.
Sindar cannot take an action - he took a double move and cannot. He can communicate.

Note to you all about this since it was discussed in the OOC thread. This was a "passive perception" check. The rolls for these two sightings were 14 and 12 - stealth rolls. Zhu spotted the "12" because she has a +3 to perception, meaning the Kuo-tao needed a 14 to stealth. That's why she didn't see what Sindar saw. Sindar has +6 to perception which means he notices those who whose stealth roll is 16 or less.

That far away target is 100 feet away from Sindar, submerged in the water, but you know where.

Note that after Zhu's "reaction", if the kuo-tao she noticed survives, it will complete it's move for it's turn by ducking back, out of sight, in the sewer water and will likely move from there.

The following is Sindar's view. Only Zhu's readied action is triggered. Then we're back up to the top, which happens to be Zhu's turn again.

It's difficult for Zhu to see the results of her blast, but experience tells her that it struck the target and since it's head was the only thing other than it's hands that were a target, if the fire bolt hit, it would likely have blown the creature's head off.

BTW, I did the math. The shortest route for Jaliera to get to Davroar (without magic), running, throwing caution to the wind, will take 3 rounds even if she tried to jump over the 10' wide sewage canals.

She is always a little cautious and Zhu has just shown her that enemies are still around. She will keep her bow ready and Whisper on the look out. She moves up just behind Kriv. If she can hide, she will.

OOC: It looks like Jaliera needed to do a double move to get there without needing a dex save, which precludes a readied action. Or, she could get there, have a readied action but needs to provide a dex save because of the slippery floor. Note that because of the effect of the spell cast on her by the spellcaster, she would need to subtract 1d4 from her saving throw. BTW, 4 more rounds of effect from that. It's a DC 10 roll. She's +7 on Dex saves. I didn't say this earlier, but if you fail the save by 5 or more, the slip ends you up in the sludge.


So we have Davroar, stuck at the bottom of the pit followed by Sindar who saw motion 100 feet away followed by Bern who sees no targets.

OOC: As I said previously, the ground is very slick. If you don't move at half speed, you need to make a dex save to prevent slipping. So a single "safe" move is 15'. Think of the ground as being as slick as ice.

This means she completed her move but fell prone. You rolled a 2 on the die. Note that rolling a 1 would be the same failing the save by 5 or more. Her slip would have ended her up in the sludge.
