"No point in two archers at the rear. I'll go behind Arus and Kriv. That will allow me to cast or shoot."
She thanks Sindar but pockets the coin. With Whisper on her shoulder, her familiar's vision will work best for now. Once she climbs down, she readies her bow wanting to be in a good position to fire if needed.
She likewise takes a coin, thanking Sindar. She pockets it to conceal it's illumination. She doesn't need the light to see, but it could also be used as a distraction.
OOC: Be forewarned Gypsy, there are restrictions for Jaliera when you are looking through Whisper's eyes:
While your familiar is within 100 feet of you, you can communicate with it telepathically. Additionally, as an action, you can see through your familiar's eyes and hear what it hears until the start of your next turn, gaining the benefits of any special senses that the familiar has. During this time, you are deaf and blind with regard to your own senses. It will create an extra hazards when moving.
As for Davroar, he can't change into a giant spider. He can change into a creature that is a max 1/2 challenge rating. Giant Spiders are a CR 1. He needs to be 8th level before he can do that. You might want to change into a Giant Wolf Spider, smaller than a giant spider (size M, CR 1/4) and no web attack. Please advise.
AJ, you said Davroar would scout ahead 20 paces. I'll translate that to 20 feet, unless you meant yards, which would be 60 feet. But since reaching Davroar at 60 feet would take a full turn foregoing any actions (using dash as an action), I'm guessing 20 feet is what you meant.
[[ Well ... with 2 archers, 60 feet is not as 'unprotected' as you implied <wink> And ... in what ever shape he chooses, the extra distance might make him safer since he wouldn't look so much like our 'pet' <weg> But, while that is my assessment, it is up to Davroar how he wants to handle it. ]]
OOC: That is if you can "see" him. The light spell has a max range of 40. And those inside a lit area cannot use their dark vision (60') to see beyond the light. They have to move into darkness to see 60' further.
[[ Ah, but if those 'behind' are not using light, I would think that they could easily target 'foes' who approach within the range of the light being used by those in front ]]
(OOC - Yes. If there is a light being carried by the first person in line, somebody in the middle, and the last person in line, for example, the area illuminated would extend 40 feet ahead of the party, cover the whole party, and extend 40 feet behind the party as well. Potentially 80-120 feet. Also keep in mind that foes who don't need light would see us, or at least the light, coming well before we could see them. Note also that if the point of Davroar scouting ahead is for him to be outside the light then he would indeed need to be 60 feet ahead and not 20.)
[ooc: Neptune, Davroar has changed into a giant spider before, and even allowed him to change into a brown bear several times. Davroar is a 6th level druid of the Circle of the Moon, and there's a paragraph in the PDF saying at 6th level "... you can transform into a beast with a challenge rating as high as your druid level divided by 3, rounded down." ]
(OOC - Whisper would be good to use in a situation where we stop to scout a place ahead, maybe a large opening. Davroar, in spider form goes to take a look while the party stays back so their light doesn't give them away. Whisper flies above to help Davroar look and also to let the party know what is happening to Davroar in case there's fighting. That way Jaliera is still and can focus on Whisper without risking tripping over a rock. )
Davroar changes form into a spider and climbs down into the darkness. There is no immediate threat so he looks about.
He is in the sewers. All vertical surfaces are grimy and slippery. He realizes immediately that any creature, including a spider, moving on these surfaces must move slowly or risk slipping.
It is pitch black.
There is a narrow (5') gangway on either side of the sewer canal which is filled with refuse and garbage. The canals seem shallow but it's so murky that he cannot see the bottom. The tunnels that make up the sewers are old stonework. The ceilings are low, reaching only 8 feet above the gangways. Davroar finds himself cramped somewhat in this form, but he has room to move here. Up ahead, 25 feet from the ladder, there's a narrow passage that turns right (south). Further ahead, the sewer comes to a 4-way intersection.
Davroar peers down the passage to the right which goes for 10 feet and opens into a room. From where he is, he can see large a mechanical wheel and a desk in a room.
OOC: FYI...
Quote
Squeezing into a Smaller Space A creature can squeeze through a space that is large enough for a creature one size smaller than it. Thus, a Large creature can squeeze through a Passage that’s only 5 feet wide. While squeezing through a space, a creature must spend 1 extra foot for every foot it moves there, and it has disadvantage on Attack Rolls and Dexterity Saving Throws. Attack Rolls against the creature have advantage while it’s in the smaller space.
Seeing the room empty of anyone and not wanting to be vulnerable while getting into the room, he will let the others examine it. Instead he will creep up to the intersection while being careful where he places each of his eight legs in order to be as quiet as possible.
As the spider crawled ahead, Kriv, by the light refracting from the Glasstaff, cast a wary eye on the entry chamber. It was unlikely the lordlings descended under their own power, so where was the reception?
DM Davroar moves up to the intersection while the others move carefully along the narrow, very slippery walkway to the right of the ladder. Even Arus is repulsed by the foul matter floating in it fetid odor is emitted.
The intersection that Davroar sees is cloaked in darkness that the others cannot see. OOC: see PM. He giant spider can barely be seen by the light being shed by the light shining off of Glasstaff but before turning into the room to the right, Kriv sees that the giant spider is avoiding the walls as much as possible. It looks like the spider is having trouble walking on the walls.
Whisper flies ahead of the group, grazing Kriv as she passes him, as the ceilings are very low (8 feet). Jaliera has stopped, blinded herself as she looks and listens through Whisper's eyes and ears. Both Whisper and Kriv can see that this is some sort of control room. There are handwheels and levers. Perhaps they are used for opening and closing the waterpipes flowing into and out of the sewers in this area? There is also a desk and two chairs in the middle of the office. A human sized skeleton lies naked, half-dissolved on the ground.
OOC: Consider the floor to be difficult terrain for now. You move at half speed and if we get into melee, it's so slippery that I'll be having you make dex saving throws. We'll deal with that if that time comes.
He will carefully back up and gently tap Arus on his shoulder to get his attention and then point to the left to indicate he has found something there.
