I spent the past week in the hospital with my youngest daughter. Two mornings in a row, she was very upset that she couldn't have breakfast, just in case they decided to operate. She ended up having surgery on Wednesday.
Before we were released on Friday, the pediatrician stopped by and she really let him have it for putting in the NPO order that wouldn't let her eat.
Her least favorite acronym for the week was NPO, which stands for "nil per os." This is Latin for nothing by mouth. After seeing and hearing NPO all week, I'd love to see some new definitions.
