OOC: Yes, but I allow for advanced scouting. Going forward, I'll move everyone as a party, assuming that Chandan moves first, waves others forward. They catch up, he moves forward. Neil, as I said, please give me stealth and perception rolls regularly.
1) Lumi is in the front so no need. Just as long as he doesn't meander far from the party. 2) If you are keeping an eye out, yes, give me a perception roll every round. Or, we can say that you are keeping an eye out and I can specifically ask you to give me a perception roll when needed. That'll save a dozen rolls.
DM Random Monster Roll (17-20) Neptune rolled 1d20 and got 19 DM What monster? Neptune rolled 1d12 and got 7 DM How many? Neptune rolled 1d4+2 and got 6
OOC: Talk about bad news! DM Bugbears are known for being tricky and stealthy. When they saw the light down the corridors, the put theirs out and hid until they thought it was the right time and then they attacked. The right time was when Chandan was looking the other way. On a different day he might have noticed, but today has not worked out so well for the elderly monk. Two of the bugbears attack him, hurling their javelins at him, before he notices them. Both strike, and he was already wounded so he once again finds himself bleeding, dying on the ground. The rest of the party, still a few feet away, are not targeted.
Bugbear 1 Surprise attack on Chandan with advantage, javelin dam, bonus surprise damage Neptune rolled 1d20+4,1d20+4,1d6+2,2d6 and got 18, 9, 6, 5 Hits for 11 point of damage.
Bugbear 2 Surprise attack on Chandan with advantage, javelin dam, bonus surprise damage Neptune rolled 1d20+4,1d20+4,1d6+2,2d6 and got 22, 21, 6, 10 Hits for 16 points of damage. (Total 27 points of damage).
I'm going to review damage and healing tonight. I think the status is correct. If you spot a boo-boo, let me know. Status:

Now I need initiative rolls. You too Neil. I need to see when you get to make your death saves.
The Dragonborn waits to hear any sound of Chandan having been set upon in the dark. Hearing the brutal squelch of javelin on flesh, he readied his weapons and arcana, hanging back.
Her attention had been alternating between their surroundings and the old monk at the head of their group, but she happened to be looking away when his old body was pierced by the javelins. Hearing the sounds, she looked back at the old man, but Chandan was already on the ground.
He lets out a curse under his breath when he sees Chandan fall from the javelin attack. Not knowing just how many there are of them yet, he will bring his staff up ready to attack.
She sees Chandan fall. Enemies are obviously close. Without seeing a target she is not sure whether her bow or a spell is preferable. She will try to move to a position where she has a target and will try to defend Chandan against the enemy.
His attention had been mostly focused behind the group, so it is a moment before he realizes that the trouble came from ahead. He does try to maintain a bit of his attention to the rear, wouldn't do to get surprised from both directions. But the immediate threat is ahead. His bow is ready ... now all he needs is a target!
[Initiative for the boss canary, 10 total. But Chandan might also deflect that first javalin, negating 11 damage. Not sure if that means he's still standing.]
OOC: No stirges. The bugbears are cruel enough. Just waiting on Lumi, but the bugbears rolled a 6 for initiative so everyone but Kriv (pending Lumi) can act. Chandan, unless someone with an earlier initiative stabilizes you, you'll make your first death saving throw. You know the drill
The dragonborn watches Chandan fall and notes the javelins. He once used them, so he knows their effective range. It means the foes are close. He prepares to move forward and do what they came to do.
OOC - Neal - I believe the Monk's ability to "Deflect Missiles" is a Reaction. When you are surprised, you do not get Reactions. Nep correct me if I'm wrong.
PHB p189: "If you're surprised, you can't move or take an action on your first turn of the combat, and you can't take a reaction until that turn ends. A member of a group can be surprised even if the other members aren't."
MikeD, I just checked it out and it was fine. Just in case it's a case of a mistaken address... LMP on Roll20
