The field pushes away the writhing tentacles. (Note: Kric has AC 21 until the start of his next turn.)Bern, hearing the outcry from the adjacent room rushes over to the doorway and fires at the monster. His arrow strikes true, but Bern is skilled enough with his bow to realize that the creature does not seem to have taken the level of damage it should have. Luminmorn is up, then Davroar and Ryssa. Ryssa readies a healing spell while Luminmorn joins his fellow Dragonborn in fighting the tentacled monstrosity. Luminmorn's attack strikes true, and while his weapon's damage is muted by the beast's resistances, the power of his Divine Smite hits it fully. The Grick continues it's attack on Kriv, but perhaps distracted by all the others pouring into the room, as well as the field of force covering it's target, it's tentacles miss. Grick Attack Kriv Zeim rolled d20+4 and got 11Jaliera's turn. Chandan and Kriv please wait. Status:

That means it takes up both your Move and your Action, so it is fine as long as you accept losing your chance to attack. Also, if you have the range you can certainly move through the door. Allies do not block movement. You simply can't end your turn in the same square as an ally. However you can move right through them as if they weren't there. Enemies block movement.
Also, don't forget your Bonus Action to Hide..... <g> | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 76,759 Likes: 60 Wizop Administrator | Wizop Administrator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 76,759 Likes: 60 | [OOC I did 12 squares.. and I'll hide once I get in. ] | | | | Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 22,206 Likes: 9 (Buffalo) Moderator | OP (Buffalo) Moderator Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 22,206 Likes: 9 | DMSuddenly creatures burst from the other side of the curtains. Most of them rush to surround the two Dragonborn who are fighting the Grick. They are clearly Goblins, but they wear threadbare robes over their armour and wield clubs rather than short swords. They strike at the Dragonborn. Two of the attacks go wide, but the other two hit, one even managing to get past the field of force still surrounding Kriv. Acolyte1, 2, 3, 4 Attack Kriv, Luminmorn, Kriv, Luminmorn Zeim rolled d20+4,d6+2,d20+4,d6+2,d20+4,d6+2,d20+4,d6+2 and got 12, 8, 11, 5, 21, 8, 18, 4A single, larger Goblin, in better kept robes steps out last and remains behind. He raises his hands and speaks words that cause writhing vines to erupt from the ground. The vines (marked by the green square on the map) fill an area near the doorway and clutch at Ryssa, Bern, and Davroar. Before Chandan goes, we have some housekeeping:
First, Ryssa has the opportunity to cast a ranged healing spell on Kriv who is down roughly 66% of his hps.
Second I need Ryssa, Bern, and Davroar to make Strength Saving throws versus DC13 to see if the are grasped by the vines.
Once I get Ryssa's healing effect and the 3 saves (so we know who is affected) I'll let you know the impact and then Chandan and Kriv can go.

The cleric saw that Kriv was grievously injured and, as she had done recently before, cast a ranged healing spell on him and anyone else in their group in range. The spell was powerful in its result and she exulted in her success but, before she could over congratulate herself and the healing power of Lathander, vines reached out to clutch at her.
She spun, twisted and managed to pull away from their hold on her.

He finds himself healed for much of his accumulated damage. Ryssa, Bern and Davroar then attempt to break free of the grasping vines. Ryssa and Davroar succeed, but Bern is grasped solidly. (OOC - OK, here is the effect. The entire area of the Entangle is difficult terrain. That means it takes double normal movement to move into one of those squares, but not out of. Bern, who failed his save, is 'Restrained:
Restrained
"A restrained creature’s speed becomes 0, and it can’t benefit from any bonus to its speed. Attack rolls against the creature have advantage, and the creature’s Attack rolls have disadvantage. The creature has disadvantage on Dexterity saving throws."
On his turn, Bern can fire his bow w/Disadvantage, or he can make a new Strength Save versus DC13 at the end of each of his turns to try to break free, but that takes an action so if he wants to do so he has to forgo his attack that round.
Anyone who enters the area of the Entangle (such as Jaliera if she wants to enter the room) must make a Strength Saving Throw versus DC13 or become Restrained like Bern for each square they enter. Anyone passing thru the area of the Entangle (such as Davroar if he tries to head West) must make a Strength Saving Throw for each square of it they enter or become Entangled.)

Right in the thick of it. He let the staff fall from his grasp to enable him to use his Maul, swinging it in a vicious upward arc at and through the goblin to his north. He angled the swing to impact the monster beside it as well, then tried to finish it on the backswing.

Discipline. Monks are renowned for it.
Chandan has adapted his, since coming down from his mountain, but he can still be relied on to guard a door. Whatever's happening in the room across the hall, it will be worse for his companions if more foes fall upon their rear.
So he stays quietly by the door and twizzles his hair, eyes slitted and listening intently. | | | | Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 22,206 Likes: 9 (Buffalo) Moderator | OP (Buffalo) Moderator Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 22,206 Likes: 9 | DMKriv attacks with his Great Maul, swinging the large weapon in sweeping strikes that smash the Goblin Acolyte in front of him to pulp and then turning slightly, finish off the tentacled monstrosity. Chandan waits with the patience afforded him by his Monk training, watching and listening at the door to the east, and that patience is rewarded as he hears the rattle of the door latch being tried from the other side. The party's jamming of the door is rewarded as the door remains closed, but Chandan knows if those inside really want to get out, the next step is breaking the door down. Bern fires his bow at the new Goblin threat, but the clutching, grasping vines won't leave him the freedom to use it properly and they throw off his aim, missing twice. Luminmorn, Davroar, and Ryssa go. (Note: the 'Halo' around the Shaman indicates he is hidden and cannot be targeted. Also don't forget that if you move into any square within the green square (Entanglement) you must make a Strength Save versus DC13 or be Restrained and have to stop moving and have Disadvantage on any attacks you make.) He is a Goblin, so has the same abilities to hide as the rest of them. I left him on the map for convenience, but the "halo" around him indicates you can't see him. Same deal as before, your only real options are to ready an action and wait for him to act or use some sort of AOE ability to cover where you think he might be. Keep in mind that if you use a ranged attack (spell or missile) while you have an enemy adjacent to you, you attack with Disadvantage. | | | | Joined: May 2009 Posts: 15,156 Likes: 11 Chaotic Obfuscator Moderator | Chaotic Obfuscator Moderator Joined: May 2009 Posts: 15,156 Likes: 11 | Luminmorn
The dragon born looked around and decided that the closest enemies had to die first. Kriv had the right idea there. The Shaman could feel the dragon born's breath of lightning once he could concentrate on it more. For now though he swung Talon at the goblin nearest him.

Looking around and gauging by sight the level of damage each of her companions had suffered, Ryssa settled on Luminmorn and, holding her holy icon of Lathander in her left and and pointing at the dragonborn with her right, she murmured a quick prayer of healing.
The cleric felt an internal tug and a momentary weakness as she found that she could cast no more divine spells until she had rested.
