[Probably about right, though it's not obvious how hard an encounter is with D&D even afterwards. Encounters are a form of attrition. In D&D 5e, hit points are eroded, but I don't know what else.]
I posted that to give you guys a glimpse into the math that was derived from the play-test which was used to create the 5th edition game. I kinda think WOTC did a good job with the math in this edition. I'm starting to run higher levels in our face-to-face game and how the math holds up there is a critical issue for me. 4th Edition broke after about 8th. And I think 3.5 broke for me at about 3rd
