"So, you'll take it on? The Orcs aren't going anywhere. I am sure if you go after them in a couple of days they'll still be there."

She leans back. "As I said, I heard about your encounter with the Redbrands at the Sleeping Giant last night. From what I was told you taught them a good lesson."

"However, they are a thorn in the side of this town. I want to bring order here as with it will come prosperity. That quivering buffoon Harbin is afraid of his own shadow. He won't move on them for fear of retribution."

"So, I'd like you to take care of the problem more...., permanently. If you understand me? No need to eliminate every minion. That'd be wasteful. Cut off the head of the snake and the body dies, right?"

Lingo

"Yeah. I get it. The buffoon thinks he's smart but we could tell he's a coward."

He never really answered her request. He didn't feel like he could speak for his companions but it made sense to him. What he did notice is how eager she was for this task to be done. That was an opportunity.

"So what's in it for us?"

DM

"Well, you already know they hang out at the Sleeping Giant. Let me tell you what else I know. They have a base of some sort under the ruins of Tresendar Manor, up there on the hill to the east. Their leader goes by the name 'Glasstaff'. If you eliminate him and bring me back any correspondence or papers you might find in their base I can pay you 100gp."

She pauses. "I also know they have a Goblin in their employ. Perhaps he can give you information about Goblin bases in the area that might lead to Gundren?"

Luminmorn

"I for one am interested." He looks to see if his companions agree. He didn't mention that whatever they found they would examine it first. There was more to what she wanted than some old papers for the gold. Especially in light of Gundren and the story of the mines.

Ryssa


The cleric nodded, frowning.

"I think our first priority should be whatever has the best chance of helping our employer."

She would not think her - if not their - responsibility to Gundren would end until he was back safe and away from his captors.

<Bern>

"It would be a shame if we had to go through =all= of those thugs to get the chance to talk with the goblin ... before we put it out of it's misery", he said smiling in a way that seemed to indicate he was looking forward to the idea.

DM

She smiles at Bern. "That's up to you. All I want is this Glasstaff guy removed and his papers brought to me. You can do it however you prefer."

She glances at Lingo as her hands move to roll up the map.

She stops a moment, tilting her head to one side. "You know, now that I think about it, the Innkeeper's son, Pip, was chattering on about his friend and some sort of tunnel or something. I wasn't really paying attention. Could be nothing."

(OOC - OK, guys, where to?)

" I for one would like to talk to Pip about the tunnel. Or maybe we can talk to Daran Edermath a former adventurer next. Let's learn what we can to do more harm to the Redbands."

She smiled at the dragonborn paladin and nodded.

"I agree... that sounds like a good idea."

<Bern>

He sighed at the delay, but shrugged acceptance.

Lingo

"Pip's friend (Carp) is a kid. Daran might be an experienced adventurer. It might be a flip of the coin, but why not talk to the adult first? Adults are more likely to offer us a reward for a job well done. It seems there's no shortage of bounties to go around."

Lingo leaves no doubt where his priorities lie.

<Bern>

"But you are more likely to get a more honest report from the boy", he suggested with a shrug.

Ryssa


"Why not both? It would save us time, perhaps, to split forces and talk to both at the same time."

Luminmorn

"Sure. And larger groups can be more intimidating," he agreed. "I stand ready to serve. Whichever group desires me. I will accompany."

Lingo

"I hear that Carp's mother is not spoken for. Maybe I should tag along with that group - as long as you seal a deal with the other guy."

Balthazar

He looked back and forth between his companions, not really having a preference of which destination he went to. He was willing to go where needed as long as it wasn't another ambush like last night.


OOC: Split us up as you guys like and put me in either group.

"I don't have a preference either."

DM

With the decision being made to take on Halia's quest versus the Redbrands first, the group splits up and heads off in opposite directions. One group, Luminmorn and Ryssa, go to talk to the retired adventurer who now runs the Town Orchard, Daran Edermath. The other group, Lingo, Balthazar, and Bern, head off to talk to Carp Alderleaf.

(Since most of you didn't care I split you up. Please put your location at the top of your posts so there's no confusion about who is involved in the conversations)

Ryssa and Luminmorn at Daran Edermath's

Walking back towards the center of town, Ryssa and Luminmorn take a left at the Townmaster's Hall and cross the Town Green to a tidy little house by a small apple orchard. The door to the house is closed, and glancing into the orchard the two can see a man with a wheelbarrow moving among the rows of trees.

Lingo, Bern, and Balthazar at Quelline Alderleaf's

Moving back towards the Townmaster's hall, they take their leave of the others and turn to the right. They pass a few homes and farms before reaching their destination. The farm is behind a small house and as they approach they see a middle aged halfling woman working the land in back of the home.

Luminmorn at The Orchard

He waves to the man as they approach a distinctly human motion intended for a human audience. He made his way through the trees to the old adventurer.
