Wanting to say "I'm a bit of a wild card but as I've recently discovered, that works better when you also have the rest of the deck with you" or similar.

Don't see why you can't say that. Of course, you're not playing with a full deck.

But is a 'wild card' a thing in card games here, or would it sound anachronistic?

<shrug> Dunno if there are cards other than the Rhoni Deck, and one certainly wouldn't be playing games with those. On the other hand, that's not to say the Rhoni Deck doesn't have a card that means 'chance' or 'unpredictability'... in essence, a wild card.

there are some very important nuances here ...

"steadfast as a unicorn" does mean unpredictable, however it is very much a whimsical manner of being unpredictable. And the clarification being white unicorns, as Kelly noted, is important - black unicorns are EXTREMELY steadfast.

The Rhoni Deck may at times appear whimsical and provide unexpected outcomes, but that is an outsider's view and is contrary to the true nature of what the deck does. It does have a card that represents "Change" and when reversed means "Drastic, Sudden and Unexpected Change" but that's as close as it gets.

While only truly known to Imperials and Nobles, I did not suggest House Koromov as a jest; the House does have a reputation of basically being "unpredictable" in the manner of a "wild card" ... that is, having a tendency of not only bending but breaking rules to their manner. This is the basis of their ability to be the "Conscience of the Empire" - they are the House that will do whats Right as opposed to whats Law - and subtly different from the Atterans ability to suspend the Laws in the name of Mercy.

So you could say something along the lines of "I seem to have spent too much time in the company of Koromovs ..."

I'll try it I guess, although it's not really quite the same fit.

You all now have been formally welcomed to the Amber Inn ... between now and next weekend you folks should:

Post whether or not you are going in; otherwise we will presume you do, and the stablehand from next door will take care of your horses.

Decide where you want to go in the Village; there is a cathedral to visit, the fairly unique docks (being cut from stones and all), the rest of the town to explore if you with ... you can visit anyplace in town and return to the Amber Inn before dark.

If folks want to follow Khorall Larsen's advice and take a hot bath, just say so and we'll have that happen.

If you want to move on the Mikailsson's farm, you can - you'll get there around nightfall. Waverider's Watch is even further away.

If you dont go anywhere, night will fall and you'll end up part of the diner rush!
