Seem reasonable? | | | | | Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 14,130 Likes: 37 Maris Imperium Moderator | Maris Imperium Moderator Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 14,130 Likes: 37 | Note: The decimals after Sindar, Kriv, Davroar and Aubric's initiative rolls is the tiebreaker which is the dexterity modifier. This is an interesting tiebreaker and opposite the way I would expect (I'd break based on the higher "natural" die roll). I mean, Kriv literally rolled a 1! But I do see it's apparently an extremely common house rule. | | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 83,505 Likes: 105 Wizop Administrator | Wizop Administrator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 83,505 Likes: 105 | Jaliera is considering her actions based on range:
Color spray - 15 feet Lightning scroll - no idea Bow - coming out as lonest range currently.
Based on this she is likely to ride in at pace until her bow becomes effective, then stop and dismount to use it. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 23,553 Likes: 14 (Buffalo) Moderator | (Buffalo) Moderator Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 23,553 Likes: 14 | ooc: Remember that from 500 feet up, you need to travel 500 feet down to strike. With a double movement rate of 160 it would take 4 full rounds of double moves. That's 4 rounds to go down. Assuming you started at ground zero, a full vertical climb puts the eagle at 320 feet up in 2 rounds. You still need 2 rounds to get to 500 feet altitude. Another instance where the D&D rules defy reality (I =know=, it's a fantasy game). Simply falling with no effort expended by the Eagle would result in: The distance an object falls in 6 seconds (neglecting air resistance) is 176.58 meters (or approximately 579.3 feet). Formula for freefall is:
d=1/2(gt squared)
d=distance g=acceleration (32ft/sec/sec) t=time

But an eagle, by design, has air resistance Now, if the eagle decided to drop guano on the attackers in an attempt to blind them, that might fall 500 feet in a turn... | | | | | Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 23,553 Likes: 14 (Buffalo) Moderator | (Buffalo) Moderator Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 23,553 Likes: 14 | But an eagle, by design, has air resistance Only if it's wings are spread. If it tucks them in it drops like a stone. That is actually how they hunt for fish. Besides, it makes no sense at all that a creature can climb (opposing gravity) at the same rate it can descend (where gravity is assisting). But as I said, just another example of the need to not try to compare fantasy to science.

In truth, I would need to calculate the hypotonus of the x, y and z axis for a move. So if he went 160 feet forward and 40 feet left and 500 feet up the math would be.
square root of ((square root of (160 square + 40 square)) + 500 square) which according to my math is 525.5 feet. But my math might be off because it don't matter.

With that in mind, I am going to change my characters option to stay relatively low at 150' in order to make a diving strike within a single round of combat. | | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 18,862 Likes: 10 Moderator | OP Moderator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 18,862 Likes: 10 | That's why I gave you the chance to alter your action
