He knows that Elk are big and fast when they run, and the only thing that comes to mind is to take flight.
"I'll see what I can do...", replying to Jaliera as he starts running and then quickly wild shapes into a giant eagle, climbing at about 30 degrees up as he does not want to waste too much time gaining altitude as opposed to closing the distance.
While the others decide whether or not these elk riders are hostile, Davroar's plan is not to attack but merely to get their attention. As he gets closer he will let out a screech, and hopes no arrows come at him as he does a fly-by.
DM As the three parties move closer to each other, one of the heroes takes flight. Davroar rises up and as he does he can see that some of the elk riders are moving very quickly to close on the wagon. As he approaches he can see that these riders are hostile. The ride the elk holding the reins of the elk with one hand and a spear in the other. They see the eagle approaching from the distance but Davroar quickly determines that he will not reach the wagon or elk riders before those two groups meet. While the eagle is fast, so are the elk. He also looks towards the wagon and can see that there are four people riding horses that accompany the wagon, apparently they are escorts. The eagle's screech has them look towards the sky at him. While they seem unconcerned about the giant eagle, one of the riders points towards the elk riders and now the wagon and the horsemen are alerted, for the first time, of the danger and start moving faster, in a panic.
A brief sigh from the cleric is probably not noticed by anyone else as the events unfold and he moves from a momentary consideration of what to do, to the "oh s**t, my friends are engaging, guess I will support them".
And it's that simple. Whether or not he thinks this engagement will impact their long term goals has ceased to be relevant. His companions... his friends... have chosen a course of action, and he's going to support them.
A guttural word of Draconic, and Kriv is soon away at speed towards the merchants. The identity of those advancing on the traders of civilisation matters less than their intent, which seems hostile.
Expeditious retreat. Move 30, action Dash 30, bonus action Expeditious retreat and dash 30. Action surge Dash 30. 120ft in one round, should be there the next. Could potentially roll history if it can be done on the run.
Seeing that these elk riders look intent on attacking the wagon people, Davroar will continue to climb and start bending away to the left to get behind the line of the approaching elk riders. Hopefully it will give the appearance to the elk riders of him leaving the area as he picks up speed and altitude. His plan will be to circle around and then attempt to snatch one of the elk riders by surprise with enough to speed to carry him up and out of the fight.
Davroar is a glad that he at least managed to alert the merchants as they pick up speed when they spot the elk riders charging at them.
[ooc: Davraor will plan to use dash on the following round to gain more altitude ]
As she urges Meadow forward, she mentally reviews her options, thinking she needs to do something more effectively at the start.. maybe colourspray or use her lightening scroll. All depends on positioning when they get close.
"weren't we going to wai... ah hell." Pavel spurs his horse to follow muttering something about waiting for that damn bird to get back with news under his breath.
She sees the reaction by her party and watches as they fly, run and gallop ahead of her. She steadies Hemlock and lets them pass before she spurs her steed forward. Since she cannot see what Jaliera or Davroar have seen with their own eyes or the eyes of their familiar, she assumes that if they have spears for range weapons and attack the wagon, she would best aid by providing cover fire with her arrows from a distance that keeps the spears out of range but she also wants to use her Hunter's mark and knows, from experience, that the spell will work within a range that is further than the range of a spear. So she starts riding forward at double speed.
The party begins to race forward. The wagon is still far away and the elk-riders will reach it before the party. As they hurry forward, Zindra sees the elk-riders for the first time past the hills in the moors and she calls out "Uthgardt barbarians! Elk tribe!"
The parties are on a collision course but the elk-riders will reach the wagon first.
OOC: Lots to help clarify.
First, I'll assume that Sindar is keeping the wagon moving forward. I'm not sure what Pande's schedule is like.
The distance is 200 yards or 600 feet. The elk-riders are 100 yards or 300 feet away from the wagon. Lots of different paces here. Assuming everyone is going as fast as they can - double moves (or triple in Kriv's case), here are the paces:
Elk-riders and elks: 100 Draft horse and wagon: 80 Riding horses: 120 Kriv expeditious retreat: 90 Davroar Giant Eagle: 160 (and he has 160 ft head start)
Zindra, Zhu, Pavel, Aubric, Jaliera and the four wagon escorts are on riding horses. Both wagons are being pulled by a draft horse.
Yes. Everyone gets to make a history roll now. More info will be provided based on your roll.
(OOC - Just a reminder to all that the range of a Long Bow is 600 feet so the Barbarians are in range for Long Bow wielders. Of course you can't fire a Long Bow from Horseback, and if you do fire you take a Long Range penalty.)
