ACRO: Transparency

In a game like ACRO, where creativity and subjective judgment play major roles, transparency in the voting process is essential to maintain trust and fairness among all participants. When three couples are playing together, personal relationships can unintentionally influence votes, leading to perceptions or suspicions of favoritism.

By ensuring that voting is open, consistent, and visible to everyone, the game remains fair and enjoyable for all players. Transparent voting allows participants to see how scores are assigned and understand that evaluations are based solely on the quality of the responses—not on personal connections. This level of honesty encourages players to focus on the fun and challenge of the game rather than worrying about bias or unfair advantages.

In the interest of full transparency we are introducing Voter Audits. This was started last season due to an increase in comments to me in reference to voting habits of certain players such as my own voting habits. So being what I am a naturally curious individual I audited my own voting habits. Then those in question. Then in turn everyone's voting habits. From this day forward I will keep track of these voting habits and post have updated visual tracking of all votes from all voters. So everyone knows what these will look like here is mine along with Aqua's voter audits for last season:

Ultimately, transparency not only strengthens the integrity of the game but also enhances the spirit of friendly competition, ensuring that every player feels equally valued and respected.

So.... what does it mean?

I can see that my votes are more generally spread than yours, but...
- does it mean I'm being inclusive?
- does it mean I'm tactically voting to avoid awarding points to my competitors who already have them?
- does it mean (like the current round) I like most equally and just picked ones that didn't have votes yet?

And why would Miales get most of my 1st place votes when my main goal is to NOT vote for him? grin

For the record, I'm with Aqua on this one. There are 4-5 people who consistently put out favorable defs so a lot of my points will go there even when I'm trying to beat them. But I do tend to vote for underdogs when I'm late voting unless I can cause chaos with a three way or four way tie.

My votes change depending on the day. Sometimes I vote underdog. Sometimes I try to figure out which one I think is Miales, so I don't give him anymore points. After nearly 26 years of marriage, I can often guess which one is Baron's. But he isn't getting my vote if I think his defs sucks (see underdog clause for exceptions). I can be fairly competitive, so not voting for the one I think is his improves my chances. I usually just pick my favorites. There are plenty of times Baron thought he voted for mine and he was wrong.

On another note, we have blind submissions. What would it look like if we had blind voting? Many votes are swayed by seeing what everyone else voted.

We need another column, "percent of everyone else's votes" here.

Voting consistent with everyone else's percentages shows zero bias, even if you vote for the "top" people more often.

Although bias isn't necessarily a bad thing if you like voting for, say, otters, and another player consistently submits otter defs.

I fully support chaos-voting.

I vote for whatever catches my fancy at that moment without looking at other votes. <shrugs> And probably the same people create ones that do catch my eye because we have similar tastes.
Similar to what Maiden said, we've all be playing this for quite a while so we can probably pick out who submitted a particular def often enough.

You guys are getting way out of context for the reason the audit took place. The question posed to me was "Who was voting for Who?". The voter audits directly address that question. It is understood that players who are consistently in the top 5 of votes would most likely have the highest percentage of players voting for them and their voting audits would reflect that.

As for percentages of votes received from all players. That is a whole can of worms I have neither the time nor the patience to come up with in an excel spreadsheet. Same with subjects and themes.

Very difficult to avoid some sort of bias. I don't look at any votes when I choose my 3 favourites as there might be a temptation to vote for the 'underdog' which could be tactical.

We could do secret voting... bit more work for the dealer though. smile

Yeah we could... Personally have wanted to just message my vote to the dealer in the past.

I've suggested it before but was shut down because a lot of people like the cutthroat aspect.

I have found it difficult to participate in games where I have to do a lot of interaction via PM.

I'm here for the fun, and I trust everyone else is as well.

I'm also a stats geek and want to play with the data a little more to tweak out other observations because transparency. smile

I like the voting public, but that is just me. It seems easier, and honestly it is kind of fun to see who votes for whom on a regular basis. If there is an issue of people collaborating on votes, knowing things are public might help?

I like public voting also and I'm at a loss about this whole voter audit/transparency thing. I'm just here to have fun with a game.

Keep the voting public. As for transparency, I cannot remember the last time I dealt so I;m the shortstop (think: Who's On First!)

I'm not sure Aqua is a willing participant in that.

I'm always willing to analyze by myself, but analyzing together with Miales is sort of... uh... nevermind.
