* The shaft is a massive structure, spanning nearly 150 floors arrayed around a central shaft. Some ten thousand people live there. Population is tightly controlled.
* Upper Floors (1-48): These floors are primarily dedicated to administration, communication, and social functions. They house a variety of offices, including the Judicial and I.T. departments, as well as the Mayor's and Sheriff's offices. The Echo, the Shaft's only connection to anything outside of itself, is also located here. Residential apartments, schools, a nursery, and other essential social structures are also located here.
* Mids (49-96): Colloquially known as the "mids," this section is the center of food production. Farms and shops are the primary features, though apartments are also present to accommodate a portion of the population.
* Lower Floors (97-144): The lower levels are dedicated to generating and managing essential resources. This includes at least one water plant, supply storage, recycling facilities, and the main generator.
