[[ Trying to figure out the 'best' course at the moment <shrug> Looking for a 'weak' point in the approaching mud slide ... maybe a space that will not be 'hit' head on because of the terrain for example. ]]

MikeD, there is no "weak" point. The map does not show the true width of the landslide. Everyone will be hit and there's no escaping that unless you do something like flying away.

Your OOC statement might as well be in character. Should it not?

Pavel

There was little he could do as the first wave hit unbalancing him and sending him sprawling on the ground. His horse fared better and stayed on its feet. Prone was not the place to be as the mud flowed. He knew that and scrambled to his feet. Looking to his left he saw that was just the beginning. Height was what he needed. Looking up he chooses a sturdy branch near the top of the tree and quickly casts Misty Step to port himself onto that branch high up in the tree.

Then the wave of mud, stones and tree limbs hit. The sludge pouring down the hill was thick and heavy but some members of the party recognize the danger and did what they could to assuage the impact. Pavel can be surrounding himself by a silvery mist, disappeared and reappeared on one of the higher branches of a nearby tree. Zhu spun a sticky web around the cart and those near and around it hoping that it held them from being swept away. Aubric blesses Arus, Sindar and Boris but with the web them may be safe but the blessing lasts and this is not the end of the landslide. Sindar glances back and sees that Bern, Jaliera and their horses along with Aubric's horse were not secure. So he uttered words of inspiration in their direction. ooc: I'm going to pressure you Pande to pick a target BEFORE they roll their saves. I listed likely candidates who aren't being otherwise assisted. Kriv and Zindra rise from the mud and get their heads above the mudline. Zindra grabs hold of a nearby tree limb while holding the reins of her mount. Kriv draws upon his fortitude to rise and move in between the oncoming surge and Zindra and the horses with a surge of energy. Then he lets out a thunderous wave of arcane energy which pushes against the mud hoping to protect those now behind and next to him. Zindra stands up and helps her horse stand too.

First I need to know who gets Sindar's inspiration.
Then EVERYONE (including your horse who are +3) needs to make a strength saving throw. If you fail the save you take 20 points of damaged and pushed 10 feet (very likely into the raging river). If you make the save you take half damage - 10 points and are not pushed.

Aubric blesses Arus, Sindar and Boris. They get to add d4 to saves and attacks. Aubric urges his horse to stand but leaves it to fend for itself.
Jaliera tries to move out of the flow with her horse but there's nowhere to go that's safe.
Zhu casts web. Climbs a nearby tree. No save needed for her, just one for her horse. Those in the web don't need to make a save. They save automatically as the web holds them fast, but they take half damage. That's Aubric, Sindar, Arus and Boris.
Kriv Thunderwave protects himself, his horse (kH), Zindra, and Zindra's horse (kZi). These strength saving throws are with advantage.
Pavel Misty steps 15 feet up (as high as a strong limb is nearby) No save is needed. His horse needs to save.
Until I hear from Pande about his inspiration, Jaliera, Bern and Davroar as well as hAu, hD and hJ take on the full brunt of the landslide.

I think I covered everyone. After the saves I will resolve and then Arus and Davroar will go.

Sindar

He sees the wave of mud hit and people in trouble. He offers inspiration to Aubric's horse, in the hope it can save itself. "Buck up horsey," he calls lamely.

ooc: OK. Time for your saves as above. Aubric's horse (hA) is inspired. Pavel's horse made his save back when Dex saves were needed.

What is needed now are Strength Saves - DC 10 to not be swept away. I will assume that Pavel's horse rolled that d20 for his strength save and saves wink

OOC: Neither Aubric nor his horse use the inspiration d8 so they still have it for a future roll

Aubric Con save for concentration after taking damage
AquaDyne rolled 1d20+7 and got 19

OOC: Aubric maintains concentration on Bless, still holds on to his inspiration die

(OOC - If you're talking about a Concentration check for the spell, according to your post she takes no damage being up in the tree so no concentration roll should be needed. If its something else, the Web has no Con, so I am confused. Also, if the mudslides are over, she would be dropping the spell anyway.)

Kriv

After the burst of magic pressure subsided, Kriv braced himself against the onslaught, one last bulwark against the tide of earth. He stood firm, battered but unbowed.

Kriv Strength saving throw DC10 with advantage, horse saving throw with advantage.

The party is strong and resilient. With the help of some magic, Zhu's web and Kriv's Thunderwave, most hold their ground and stave off the worst damage the landslide could have caused. Anyone that didn't relocate above the mud either by climbing like Zhu or using arcane powers like Pavel, found themselves getting pounded by the dirt, branches and mud. They are hurt but survive the initial onslaught. Only Kriv's mount, who had slipped and gotten hurt from that fall, succumbed to the mud. The mud knocks it off it's feet again and the steed falls unconscious and with that the mud sweeps it into the surging rapids.

Few of the horses will survive the next wave of mud unless something is done.

And with the flow comes the cause of the landslide. A hill giant appears in view. It is sliding down the hillside, being swept down by the mud. Bern, who realized there must be a different reason other than the downpour for the mudslide to have started. The stupid hill giant must have stepped in the wrong place, a place where the ground was unable to support it's weight, and that must have triggered the event.

No matter now why it happened. What matters is that aside from the real danger the mudslide presents, there is now a foe added to the mix.

On the hill giant's turn it grabs tree trunk which stops it's slide down the hill.

Note: Those that were in the web didn't need to make a save. I made the save automatic. But they still take damage from the mud and debris.

OOC: Can you elaborate on how that impacts the giant's movement? It's 50 feet away with a speed of 40, but can it move at all (or half with difficult terrain) other than the speed of the mud (which is...?). TLDR: will it be in melee range in 1 round or more than one round?

Davroar

Bruised up from the sliding debris in the mud, he is glad to have kept his feet and to see that Jaliera beside him is keeping her footing too. Sure he could take advantage of his recent development to turn into a bird and fly away, but he is not about to do that while Jaliera is still at risk. Ignoring the giant's appearance for the moment, Davroar still has his horses reins in hand.

Quickly turning to face Jaliera, he holds out his left hand and yells over the loud sounds of the slide coming down upon them, "Jaliera, your reins!"

Once he has both reins in hand he calms his heart rate down, conveying a calmness to both horses, and with a steady hand manages to get both turned horses around to start moving as fast as possible out of the slides path.

"Follow your horse, staying up slope of her. Keep a firm grip, but don't wrap your hands around the reins in case your horse goes down. Horses are stronger than us, so use the reins to keep up if you slip."

Davroar will do the same, staying to his horses right side and will keep an watch upslope for the giant and other large branches or rocks that might be coming their way.

ooc: Can I move Davroar and his horse 1/2 movement to the west?

That was quite a moment. Unable to do anything at the moment, she nods to Davroar, thankful he is close and sends Whisper higher out of harm's way.

Arus

The trader who sold them Boris had promised the animal was as astute and nimble a horse as could be bought, sired by a locally renouned stallion known only as John.

However on this occasion Boris son of John has proven something of a flat-hoofed blockhead. Nonetheless, Arus won't stand by whilst the horse is dragged to its death by the wagon.

"Lo Sindar, I'll cut the horse free!"

And he sets about doing that, targeting leather traces and tugs. The harness might be damaged but if they can save the horse they have a premium quality harness in the back of the wagon!
