Also why isn’t anyone going to go see Tamalin Zoar while sitting around? That letter of recommendation will be worth far more to you than anything a half crazy witch makes guy provide. | | | | Joined: Jan 2023 Posts: 8,271 Likes: 21 Coordinator of Chaos Moderator | Coordinator of Chaos Moderator Joined: Jan 2023 Posts: 8,271 Likes: 21 | I don't read long posts on the phone.. just saying give more time so people can respond | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 18,574 Likes: 7 Moderator | OP Moderator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 18,574 Likes: 7 | Yeah. I understand the problem that velociposters cause. I came here the other day to find a dozen posts. I can fall into that trap. It takes some restraint for the DM to resist replying in quasi-real time

There is a reason the majority of my posting is done early morning. I don't have time to post during the day. So get ready for back posting | | | | Joined: May 2009 Posts: 16,802 Likes: 16 Chaotic Obfuscator Moderator | Chaotic Obfuscator Moderator Joined: May 2009 Posts: 16,802 Likes: 16 | I tend to post once a day even to my games, unless it is a quick answer to keep the narrative going. I actually watch for others to have a chance to post so that I never cause this kind of an issue, not that I am very fast, but it is the principle. I also can wait for others to post into a scene when I feel like their input is necessary rather than just moving on. But this is my personal preference, and every GM has their own. | | | | Joined: May 2009 Posts: 16,802 Likes: 16 Chaotic Obfuscator Moderator | Chaotic Obfuscator Moderator Joined: May 2009 Posts: 16,802 Likes: 16 | In reference to a two headed Sindar or bard, FABULOUS! I could so play that! | | | | Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 23,132 Likes: 13 (Buffalo) Moderator | (Buffalo) Moderator Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 23,132 Likes: 13 | I tend to have different cycles. Some days I can be a velociposter and respond to posts within minutes of it being posted, and if the other party replies quickly I can continue to reply. I try to only post once per DM post, though, unless I am in conversation with another pc. At other times I may post once per day or once for several days. Depends on RL. | | | | Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 12,841 Likes: 23 Maris Imperium Moderator | Maris Imperium Moderator Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 12,841 Likes: 23 | I'm on call this week and may not have time for either velociposting or turtleposting. Which is why I was trying to knock things out yesterday. The witch was mostly intended much earlier (but y'all are unpredictable) and honestly doesn't have much beyond entertainment value. Like two-headed bards. | | | | Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 12,841 Likes: 23 Maris Imperium Moderator | Maris Imperium Moderator Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 12,841 Likes: 23 | For Pavel, Attunment is described in the basic rules, see https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/basic-rules-2014/magic-items#AttunementFull time spellcasters probaly are well aware of it, as a multiclass it could be something you haven't yet learned but the party can probably help you with. (It's kind of weird trying to describe OOC game mechanics IC, but whatever.) | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 80,941 Likes: 83 Wizop Administrator | Wizop Administrator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 80,941 Likes: 83 | Sindar could harmonise with himself! Sorry I've been slacker than usual with family here for 3 weeks. I'll try to do better. FWIW I usually post during my morning when I expect many of you are asleep.. so I am usually more of a victim of veliposting rather than a perpetrator. | | | | Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 12,841 Likes: 23 Maris Imperium Moderator | Maris Imperium Moderator Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 12,841 Likes: 23 | Hmm, so Bern is both talking to Tamalin and the witch at the same time. Clearly one of them is the doppelganger. | | | | Joined: Jan 2023 Posts: 8,271 Likes: 21 Coordinator of Chaos Moderator | Coordinator of Chaos Moderator Joined: Jan 2023 Posts: 8,271 Likes: 21 | Totally possible. Tamalin meeting and Witch meeting are at the same time. Bern just needs to ask if Tamalin knows where to find a Troll bladder for sale. Would indicate he dropped in during the time he left for it.

To him the price was a little steep. Extremely steep especially considering how the potions were only experimental. He turned to Zhu to try to gauge her reaction to the price. For reference, the PHB quotes these prices for regular run-of-the-mill healing potions: Potion of Rarity HP Regained Price
Healing Common 2d4 + 2 50 gp
Greater healing Uncommon 4d4 + 4 100 gp
Superior healing Rare 8d4 + 8 500 gp
Supreme healing Very rare 10d4 +20 1350 gp I haven't quoted you the exact dice for the troll regeneration potions but it's potentially 1d6x6 + 60 total hp (~81 avg). Compared to the 45 average hp for a potion of supreme healing at 1350 gp, the quoted 2000 (discounted by half) is a fair bargain. If you accept the risk, also not quoted yet but at least described. | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 18,574 Likes: 7 Moderator | OP Moderator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 18,574 Likes: 7 | OOC: Bern could ask Tamalin where the troll bodies were. I assume, however, that they were burned since without burning them, trolls regenerate.

Because it's silly for me to make you wait until tomorrow. Also at the end of the troll battle scene, I had noted that there were healers ready to harvest the troll bodies for components as well, but were waiting to give the party "first dibs" on it. Because as alluded to, the whole witch visit was originally intended to come before you killed the trolls. Yay for spontaneity. Doppelganger jokes aside, Bern did already post something about returning with the bladder. Maybe he's running back and forth? It's not that big a deal here, the problem with running simultaneous threads. | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 42,526 Likes: 13 Member | Member Joined: May 2000 Posts: 42,526 Likes: 13 | [[ OK, so this got lost in the velociposting, but since this whole scene started just as the market was shutting down, I noted that Bern could find the healers at the market and, for a little extra coin, convince them to open up and sell him troll parts. I thought about trying to change what I was going to write, because it seems like I was using OOC knowledge, but ultimately decided against it. I just went with my gut feeling and moved on. Sindar wasn't talking about more coin, he was hoping for more information. | | | | Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 23,132 Likes: 13 (Buffalo) Moderator | (Buffalo) Moderator Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 23,132 Likes: 13 | Yes, funny. I did not read the post as asking for more coin. I read it as asking her for the letter she'd promised. I was surprised by the response from Tamalin. | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 42,526 Likes: 13 Member | Member Joined: May 2000 Posts: 42,526 Likes: 13 | Hi!! Who are you guys?? <chuckle>

None-the-less, every argument I get into with my wife seems to be because she misinterprets (or doesn't hear correctly) something I said. Zindra's insight was to see if she was upset. I don't think it matters what Sindar said, exactly, that ticked her off. What matters is how he (of great charisma) uses his charm to smooth things out.

I did not read the post as asking for more coin. I read it as asking her for the letter she'd promised. I was surprised by the response from Tamalin. I was surprised that the party was avoiding answering the basic questions laid out in the quest, to wit: "These troll attacks, originating from the Evermoors, are far from random. It's imperative to uncover who or what is orchestrating them." She leans forward slightly, her expression grave yet determined. "I would ask that some of your party investigate the source of these attacks. Discovering the truth behind this menace is crucial for the safety of our town and all who travel through these lands."
Settling back into a more comfortable position, she adds, "In exchange for this information, I can offer you a letter of recommendation which may help you gain allies in Everlund when you reach there." Your task was to "uncover who or what is orchestrating" the troll attacks. Her direct question prior to the pushback for compensation was very specifically focused on whether the giants were orchestrating them: "And tell me more about the fire giant you slew. Were there enslaved trolls working with it? Were the trolls attacking at the bidding of the giant?" If you want a really cool reward, you have to complete the quest. | | | | Joined: May 2009 Posts: 16,802 Likes: 16 Chaotic Obfuscator Moderator | Chaotic Obfuscator Moderator Joined: May 2009 Posts: 16,802 Likes: 16 | Wow.. whiny DM making us do things by rules and follow the plot.... | | |
