I caught a late night showing of this one. Although I enjoyed the late night vibe at the cinema I'm afraid the film was a rollercoaster of disappointment.

I went in with extremely low expectations but by 30 minutes into the film I was very impressed. Strong cinematography, solid acting, great production design, an interesting setup. But around the time the first alien shows up, the film completely s***s the bed and becomes nothing more than a greatest hits compilation of every previous Alien film... including quoting lines from previous films verbatim and callbacks to some low points in the franchise I think most would rather forget.

I came out of the cinema and I felt such a strong sense of "What a pity. What a terrible pity." There was a lot of talent behind Alien: Romulus, they even made it on a sensible budget; they just didn't have a script worth a damn.

And btw, Hollywood's been skimming DreamLyrics again. jk The basic premise is a salvage crew boards an adrift research ship that's on a collision course with the ring system around a planet. Identical premise to the Alien game I ran here, INS.

Heh. I often feel like they put a mic right in my gaming room and steal directly. So many times over the years my friends and I have done a game which we felt was unique. The about two years later it appears. Really? grin

Sorry to hear the review. I had high hopes, but on this basis I think I will wait for it to make it to some free form of entertainment.
