Wednesday works because it is exactly that. It keeps it's focus on Wednesday Addams. On one hand it is an odd and very predictable mix between Nancy Drew and certain New Yorker Cartoons - I tagged the monster in two episodes and once potential villains started biting the dust the big bad became obvious.
But it doesn't matter.
Thirty years ago Christina Ricci broke out Wednesday Addams as the dark horse of the family and now we get to see her watch Jenna Ortega absolutely nail the role. She doesn't steal the scenes, she carries them. And it's interesting. Of course it's not the same Wednesday from The Addams Family or Addams Family Values ... she's a Wednesday a few years older and now the most feared of monsters ... not just a teenager - but an Addams teenager!
That she makes mistakes is good. That she can be beaten is good. That she doesn't let it defeat her is better.
As for other conversations, making this a successful game would be much harder than it would seem. Because it's not the tale a snarky darkness loving girl hunting a monster in a school full of quirky outcasts.
It's a character study.
And that's why it succeeds. | | | | Joined: May 2010 Posts: 17,408 Likes: 30 Mayhem Inc. Moderator | OP Mayhem Inc. Moderator Joined: May 2010 Posts: 17,408 Likes: 30 | Wolf, agreed. I had the who-dunnit part figured out very quickly as well. The mystery was a minor allure for me. The razor wit was what kept me going. I also agree, the fact that Wednesday is not the unstoppable force of the school was a good thing, IMO. She was just the darkest force there I would love to see a game based in Nevermore though. A school for Outcasts full of mystery, mayhem, and snarcasm. Gossip Girl or Pretty Little Liars for the monster-set.

The solution was revealed to her when she had a vision of the murderer. Deus ex machina, basically. | | | | Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 2,148 Likes: 8 Member | Member Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 2,148 Likes: 8 | It was scrumptiously fun! 😈 | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 80,351 Likes: 75 Wizop Administrator | Wizop Administrator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 80,351 Likes: 75 | Mina, we have just watched the Wednesday series and both thoroughly enjoyed it! Such good casting for both Wednesday and Enid. And I have always loved Thing! How they get so much personality and attitude into a hand beats me. Very clever! Looking forward to more. | | | | Joined: May 2010 Posts: 17,408 Likes: 30 Mayhem Inc. Moderator | OP Mayhem Inc. Moderator Joined: May 2010 Posts: 17,408 Likes: 30 | Gypsy, glad you liked it! Season 2 is in production now... I cannot wait for it to eventually drop!

Mina - that is good news! The thing about coming to a series late is that there is less time to wait for the sequel! | 1 member likes this:
