I realized that if this is 9 months later - in our own timeline that would have been during COVID lockdown. Are we to assume that this is an alternative timeline without COVID? (Though, it would make for an interesting story.)
I have posted your original character sheets from MMH including items you took with you. You may want to refer to them at some point. They are in the gallery under your pics.
A lesson I learned when I lost my Mum way back. She and my Dad had been planning travel when he retired but put if off to look after my Nan, her Mum. Several years later they made the first of their planned trips and then she died of lung cancer the year after. I now try not to delay anything.
Haven't forgotten you guys. Christmas prep and looking after Tusk is taking up a lot of my time. Plus we have a visit to an osteopath this afternoon. Please bear with me.
OK, Tusk has improved quite a bit and I am starting to get my head above water. I have an opportunity on Sunday to get a start post up. Then I have a new computer to set up but can't start that until Tusk has done his bit which will not be for about a week! Fingers crossed!
I've been playing with DiffusionBee AI to see if I can create character photos. It's all very weird and a high learning curve to get something that looks decent. Here are a couple examples:
I have read some articles about AI generated art in general, but have not tried any yet. It is certainly an interesting set of tools, but there is a debate from artists and other content providers that remains to be seen how this will all fall out.
It was actually after reading several articles on the AI debate that prompted me to take a look. I agree that there are some major ethical dilemmas:
Context of use: There is a major delineation between commercial use (and sale) vs. personal use (including fan-fiction, such as ours on Dreamlyrics.) Historic and/or journalistic representation vs. illustration also needs to be very clearly defined.
Emulating the art-style of copyrighted materials - by feeding those specific art examples into the AI model - and then commercially charging for use of that AI seems to be a potential violation of copyright law. This also could include the many sources/people themselves (models, celebrities, etc.) that have been input as examples.
[NOTE: I have been using the free, open-source AI engine DiffusionBee as opposed to a pay-service like Lensa or Lexica.]
I think the Charlie Warzel quote from Dugan’s link hits these examples: “Like others, I also have questions about the corpus used to train these art tools and the possibility that they are using a great deal of art from both big-name and lesser-known artists without any compensation or disclosure to those artists,” Warzel writes.
However, beyond the legal ramifications, I’m also seeing how the manifestations of sexism, racism, etc. (And truthfully probably remind me of my own personal biases that I continue to work through.)
Some interesting observations in these regards testing out prompts from the AI community:
Christina Hendricks (Caucasian-American) brings up more frequent and accurate look results than a model like Sora Choi (Korean) or Micah Gianneli (Filipino-Spanish-Australian).
So many big boobs!!!! Sigh….
More accurate rendering in painting and illustration styles than realistic photography. Could this be a tech limitation or sourcing?
I’m curious that one of the biggest critics I’ve read regarding AI art generation has been the artist, Greg Rutkowski. However, his D&D style art is super common in the AI prompts I’ve seen. {Return to legal arguments…}
All and all it has been an interesting experiment for someone that doesn’t have artistic skills. For my two-cents of use in fan fiction, it’s about the same as clipping webpics to represent a character. However, I hope to stay on the right side of this topic - and give fair due to the sources when appropriate.
As Skye and Levon are fighting first, can you eat make 3 rolls of 1d4? We will then add your rating and determine the results. I am happy for you to write the posts describing your bouts.
I had intended to run another bout - Skye v Miranda and Levon v Mr Harding and i'll need your rolls if you are OK with that. If you would rather move forward to the evening, I can do that. Just let me know.
Interestingly I participated in a Pub Treasure Hunt in my first year as an accountancy student.. then volunteered to help with the one we ran a year later for the new first years.
Just a reminder that the game is set in 2020, 9 months after MMH. Not sure AI was so prevalent then.. but someone will know Translation apps more likely.
Ok, I forgot what year we are playing in. You are right, four years ago and AI was still sort of in its infancy. I was thinking it was current time. I will edit my post slightly.
Moving to day 2 is fine with me... and it sounds like Em and Ian are going to bed, separately. I know Emma would like a nice night sleep before shopping the next day.
OK, do you want to play out the shopping or just write a post each describing what you do? I can then GM a spell in the pool, before moving to practice.
Does the York University MMA team have a official name? Just trying to figure out what my character Henri might suggest for supporting them during the tournament.
I found this website page but it really did not inspire me that much.
It looks like they have they have the ever popular "No Mascot".
The best examples of this is the names of their teams for the Roses Tournament which had names such as Men's Lacrosse Varsity 1 and Men's Lacrosse Varsity 2. So I'd guess we could make up our own team unofficial team name for the group.
Some thoughts. York is probably the most historic city in the UK but at the same time vibrant with lots of street performers and artists. In the War of the Roses (late 1400s) Yorkshire's elblem was the white rose, still is today. Yorkshire folk are quiet, reliable, solid folk who are honest to the point of rudeness. They are proud of their heritage. They drink strong tea. Farming is a prime industry
Gypsy got me thinking and reading up a little on the War of the Roses, I read that the Yorkists won the Battle of Towton, considered the largest and bloodiest battle in that period.
Putting that into the generator it gave a bunch of suggestions: York Battle MMA Towton Vale MMA Yorkshire Fight Club Towton Battle Gym York Power MMA Vale Battle Arena Steel York MMA Towton Force MMA York Strength Gym Vale Combat Club
Personally the two I like the most are "Steel York MMA" and "York Power MMA".
I can work out a % chance of a spare depending on how many pins you have left. If yoy want a machanism?
Did I tell you I used to be a bowler? Played in 3 leagues a week, even bowled in an occasional national tournament, usually getting knocked out in the first round!
So going by your chart, on your first ball you are guaranteed to take out a least one pin? Wish my odds were like that when I occasionally bowled in real life. I can not remember how many times my ball went into the gutter much to my disappointment.
Sorry guys it will be when I'm back. Out of time today, packing etc and out all afternoon. Feel free to chat amongst youselves, get food (burger joint) and have fun
So they went to do Karaoke. Way back in the days before digital platforms Karaoke shows were limited to what they had on CD's. Now most Karaoke shows have moved over to digital libraries. These have a huge selection but they are still limited. However there are a few (very few) who not only use their library but are also willing to do a google search and see what they can find available.on the internet.
Like the song selection, signing up for a song has changed as well. It used to be pen and paper. Either a list or a song slip. Now many shows use an App. The one person I know that will do a google search actually has the singers text him.
I'm going to go with this last option so that ANY song we select is available. Including that racy and embarrassing song that Emma is planning on putting in for someone.
Hey all. I got hit with COVID on the flight back from London. I haven't had mind power to write. Thanks for keeping it going. Feel free to ghost Skye to keep things going. I thought this was appropriate song choice:
Since both Lionhawk and I are in disposed for a few days, why don't we have the whole karaoke thing be that posted video? That way we can move along until we're back in business.
