The dealer deals out the cards and after the play is done he calls out "Lucky winner here!" Jaliera wins.

OOC: All 5 of you, no matter where you are, can pick a game to play. Arus too, even if it's for later.

Arus
(at Sava Table with Lady Atalia)

The triton is a paladin, a crusader against the enemies of the Protectorates. He is not a learned man, nor is he noted amongst the wise. But he who doth dare, doth win.

"Arus Ahlorsath." He says, introducing himself with a relaxed nod and sliding 10 gold of chips onto the table, "And I am a man who doesn't mind being measured."

From his seat, he looks around for the waitress (actually for the rest of the party), speaking to the lady before turning back to face her.

"I hear Sava is a game of great deviousness, invented by the Drow. I hear it's a game you're very good at, Lady Atalia."

Lady Atalia
"I am just someone who likes to play. Every good player meets a better player some day," she says as she slides her wager from her pile into the kitty on the table. One of the people who are working the floor approaches the table and takes four chips. "Alas, the house always gets it's share," she says. "Yes, it is a drow game and since the drow consider males inferior, you can choose whether I go first or you."

Zindra frowns, "I suppose if we're back here when the ship arrives, and not too drunk to function [ooc: Evil GM is willing to apply disadvantages if you all are drunk] we can have a couple of drinks at the Coin Toss. "

She smiles. A win is nice but luck rarely continues in such an establishment. It might even have been engineered to draw her in? Some aspects of her life have made her naturally suspicious. She collects her winnings and gets up from the table, intending to wander further.

[OOC Actually I have played Blackjack. Also gambled both in Vegas and in THE casino in Monte Carlo. Came out on top both occasions! Just trying not to slow the game down too much.]

"Well a drink or two sounds like a good way to spend the time", he said with a shrug.

"Ladies first. Literally." Arus says with charm to Her Ladyship.

When drinks arrive, the triton quaffs his like a man with an appetite and when Lady Atalia reaches to make her first move, Arus notes:

"Lord Artan certainly felt played. Now he just feels bad."

Lady Atalia

She make her move, pushing a male fighter up the board, a sacrifice. It was all about the priestess, males were fodder. She was starting the game by tempting Arus with a lure.

"Artan? Lord Artan. Hmmmmm. I vaguely recall someone saying that was their name. I suppose his game was not memorable."

Arus

He simply mirrors her move.

"Yours was. Lord Artan ended it in quite a bind."

Lady Atalia

"Oh, really? Do tell," she said, looking him in the eyes as she moved a drider into the fray. The drider was a nasty offensive piece because of it's mobility.

Lord & Lady Festus

"We know little about these things. My apologies. We simply hate to make assumptions," Lord Festus added.

"Oh. You are traveling partners. How nice, to see the world. And we do love visitors from other places," the elderly lady's eyes lit up. "You want gossip, don't you?" she asks, leaning over, whispering.

Ugh. Humans, so very loose-tongued. At least that was to their advantage today.

"It sounds like you have something you're eager to share. We're willing to listen."

[Arus's plan is to wager 50 gp during the night.]

"His night ended with him floating the wrong way down the river in a cocoon.

"He was saved by hungry seagulls--- Revolting creatures, eat anything, even each other.

"Indeed, by the time Artan arrived back in town, he was starting to look like a dead jellyfish."

Arus sets his glass down and sits back in his chair.

"Afflicted by a magical hex. His family expect to find out who did it imminently."

He mirrors again, somewhat lazily it must be said.

"Your move."

(OOC - Zhu will bet 10 gp at a time then. Because of her high Charisma, she prefers to play head to head against other players.)

Kriv finds himself subjugated now to the prattling of an elderly gossip. "Well, I heard that Lady Silvian got into a tiff with Deloris, the seamstress that sells her wares in the market. Apparently she had ordered a red lined robe but when it was delivered, the lining was magenta, not nearly red enough. Well, word is spreading about Deloris now, that she doesn't deliver as per order. Ah, but I know something. Melinastra, Silvian's maid, was there in the shop and told my maid, Asuki, that Sivian actually pointed to the fabric, the exact fabric that Deloris used!"

She goes on.
And on.
And on.
And soon the words start to flow together into a dizzying word soup.

Meanwhile, Lord Festus has focused his attention on his meal, not raising his eyes from the plate lest he somehow gets lured into his wife's cacophonous soliloquy.

Lady Atalia focuses on the game with Arus. She studies his mirrored move and turns an annoyed frown. Then she made her move, a clever one because it could not be mirrored without Arus losing the game in a few moves. She had moved her drider into a position that would destroy his defense if he didn't counter properly. Her going first gave her the advantage now.

"How scary. I do hope that Lord Artan is doing better. I think we should be concentrating on the game. You are in dire straits here. I had hoped you would be a challenge."

"Well that depends on whether you're playing the game you think you are." He replies with a nod and cryptic smile. And then mirrors her move again.

Arus is aware he'll lose. His mirror strategy is childish and hasn't flustered her into exposing her back row in an attempt to trap him.

But he's confident she got the message. He isn't playing games.

The match between Lady Atalia and Arus takes nearly an hour. A crowd around them gets excited because few people have taken her far. Arus can tell that she was toying with him. He would make a sly move, but she seemed to anticipate each of those moves and had an expert counter ready. In the end, she put him out of his misery, but most who watched were led to believe it was a tough, well fought match. While Arus might be frustrated by her stretching it out, he gained a measure of respect from the crowd and while his reputation didn't gain much, it also didn't suffer.

"That was a fine game Arus. Maybe again some day. It was a pleasure.

Zhu wins 48-42 in Savas (add the first 3 rolls). She's up 8 GP. But her 14 was less than the DC rolled to choose to quit

Zhu finds a brash merchant to challenge in Savas. She plays dumb in the beginning of the game, playing like she did not understand the rules. Then, when her competition relaxed, thinking he was playing a sucker, the eladrin makes a stunning move after the merchant left his guard down. She took out the high priestess with a solo spider that was ignored. The man realized he was deceived but still congratulates her on her victory when he rises from his seat, "It is my fault that I lost. I should have concentrated more on the game."

Bouyed by her success, Zhu cannot resist playing another hour.

(OOC - So if she were to change games to 21 does she still need to make those rolls, other than the roll to stop playing? Seems like it is just straightforward rolling d10s, no?)

(OOC - So the rules of 21, or other games don't matter? It's just the stat rolls? Reading the game rules for 21 it is Blackjack modified to dice. There is no bluffing, Intelligence, Wisdom, deception, or perception needed. The House is forced to roll until they have a number and then must stop, just like Blackjack. Are you saying those rules are meaningless for these purposes and we just roll and compare stats? That's easy enough I guess.)
