Kobold Knuckles Dealer Deals his hand Neptune rolled 1d4,1d6 and got 1, 6
(I normally wouldn't reveal the 6 but since you didn't care, it's open)
Kobold Knuckles Dealer Deals the next card since he hasn't reached 10 Neptune rolled 1d4 and got 1
Total is 8. He has to stick.
The dealer deals out the cards and after the play is done he calls out "Lucky winner here!" Jaliera wins. OOC: All 5 of you, no matter where you are, can pick a game to play. Arus too, even if it's for later.

The triton is a paladin, a crusader against the enemies of the Protectorates. He is not a learned man, nor is he noted amongst the wise. But he who doth dare, doth win.
"Arus Ahlorsath." He says, introducing himself with a relaxed nod and sliding 10 gold of chips onto the table, "And I am a man who doesn't mind being measured."
From his seat, he looks around for the waitress (actually for the rest of the party), speaking to the lady before turning back to face her.
"I hear Sava is a game of great deviousness, invented by the Drow. I hear it's a game you're very good at, Lady Atalia." | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 18,217 Likes: 2 Moderator | OP Moderator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 18,217 Likes: 2 | Lady Atalia "I am just someone who likes to play. Every good player meets a better player some day," she says as she slides her wager from her pile into the kitty on the table. One of the people who are working the floor approaches the table and takes four chips. "Alas, the house always gets it's share," she says. "Yes, it is a drow game and since the drow consider males inferior, you can choose whether I go first or you."

A win is nice but luck rarely continues in such an establishment. It might even have been engineered to draw her in? Some aspects of her life have made her naturally suspicious. She collects her winnings and gets up from the table, intending to wander further. [OOC Actually I have played Blackjack. Also gambled both in Vegas and in THE casino in Monte Carlo. "Ladies first. Literally." Arus says with charm to Her Ladyship.
When drinks arrive, the triton quaffs his like a man with an appetite and when Lady Atalia reaches to make her first move, Arus notes:

She make her move, pushing a male fighter up the board, a sacrifice. It was all about the priestess, males were fodder. She was starting the game by tempting Arus with a lure.
"Artan? Lord Artan. Hmmmmm. I vaguely recall someone saying that was their name. I suppose his game was not memorable."

"Oh, really? Do tell," she said, looking him in the eyes as she moved a drider into the fray. The drider was a nasty offensive piece because of it's mobility.

"Oh. You are traveling partners. How nice, to see the world. And we do love visitors from other places," the elderly lady's eyes lit up. "You want gossip, don't you?" she asks, leaning over, whispering.

OOC: Each of you (Zhu, Kriv, Sindar, Arus and Jaliera) needs to set a stake, at least 10 GP to start. The actual games you pick don't matter. Do not roll until I tell you to. Let's get all starting stakes first.
This is for the entire night and we'll do this in parallel to any roleplaying and investigations you end up doing.

10GP to start with.
Ugh. Humans, so very loose-tongued. At least that was to their advantage today.

Arus (at Sava table with Lady Atalia)
"His night ended with him floating the wrong way down the river in a cocoon.
"He was saved by hungry seagulls--- Revolting creatures, eat anything, even each other.
"Indeed, by the time Artan arrived back in town, he was starting to look like a dead jellyfish."
Arus sets his glass down and sits back in his chair.
"Afflicted by a magical hex. His family expect to find out who did it imminently."
He mirrors again, somewhat lazily it must be said.

"Well, I heard that Lady Silvian got into a tiff with Deloris, the seamstress that sells her wares in the market. Apparently she had ordered a red lined robe but when it was delivered, the lining was magenta, not nearly red enough. Well, word is spreading about Deloris now, that she doesn't deliver as per order. Ah, but I know something. Melinastra, Silvian's maid, was there in the shop and told my maid, Asuki, that Sivian actually pointed to the fabric, the exact fabric that Deloris used!" She goes on. And on. And on. And soon the words start to flow together into a dizzying word soup. Meanwhile, Lord Festus has focused his attention on his meal, not raising his eyes from the plate lest he somehow gets lured into his wife's cacophonous soliloquy. Lady Atalia focuses on the game with Arus. She studies his mirrored move and turns an annoyed frown. Then she made her move, a clever one because it could not be mirrored without Arus losing the game in a few moves. She had moved her drider into a position that would destroy his defense if he didn't counter properly. Her going first gave her the advantage now. "How scary. I do hope that Lord Artan is doing better. I think we should be concentrating on the game. You are in dire straits here. I had hoped you would be a challenge." OOC: OK, let's see what the results of Arus's game is. Please roll
- An Intelligence (Sava) check.
- A Wisdom (Insight) check.
- A Charisma (Deception) check.

The match between Lady Atalia and Arus takes nearly an hour. A crowd around them gets excited because few people have taken her far. Arus can tell that she was toying with him. He would make a sly move, but she seemed to anticipate each of those moves and had an expert counter ready. In the end, she put him out of his misery, but most who watched were led to believe it was a tough, well fought match. While Arus might be frustrated by her stretching it out, he gained a measure of respect from the crowd and while his reputation didn't gain much, it also didn't suffer.
"That was a fine game Arus. Maybe again some day. It was a pleasure.

Meanwhile, the first hour of gambling commences:
------- Skill Checks ----------- ----- Dealer ------
Player Stake Game chosen(1) Int(2) Cha(3) Wis1(4) Wis2(5) Int Cha Wis Result
Arus 10 Sava* special rolls made... Lost 10 GP
Jaliera 10
Kriv 10
Sindar
Zhu 100
Bern
Davroar
(1) See list of games here (2) Add your intelligence modifier to your roll. If you have the toolset proficiency add your proficiency bonus. (3) If you have intimidation, deception or persuasion, roll those skills, otherwise just Charisma. If you have the toolset proficiency add your proficiency bonus. (4) If you have perception or insight skills, roll those, otherwise just Wisdom. If you have the toolset proficiency add your proficiency bonus. (5) No adjustments of any kind. Just a Wisdom roll. This roll determines if you must play another hour or you have the choice to quit.
So you all have to pick a game from the list, decide on your stake and make 4 rolls as specified. I'll make 4 DC rolls of 2d10+5 after I have your rolls. This is the first hour that you play (assume that Zhu and Kriv are eating in the first hour).
Since there's gambling at the Coin Toss, Bern and Davroar have the OPTION of laying a bet. But once the first bet is made, the 4th roll will determine whether you play another hour or have the choice to quit.

If you play Savas, as you can tell with Arus's rolls, it's a different set of rules. Intelligence, Perception and Deception only. And that last roll. I will take your natural rolls and work with them.
Intelligence: 13+0 Perception: 6+3 Deception: 20+4. Wisdom: 14 So: 13, 9, 24, 14 House rolls DC for Zhu Neptune rolled 2d10+5,2d10+5,2d10+1,2d10+5 and got 14, 15, 13, 17
Zhu wins 48-42 in Savas (add the first 3 rolls). She's up 8 GP. But her 14 was less than the DC rolled to choose to quit
DM Zhu finds a brash merchant to challenge in Savas. She plays dumb in the beginning of the game, playing like she did not understand the rules. Then, when her competition relaxed, thinking he was playing a sucker, the eladrin makes a stunning move after the merchant left his guard down. She took out the high priestess with a solo spider that was ignored. The man realized he was deceived but still congratulates her on her victory when he rises from his seat, "It is my fault that I lost. I should have concentrated more on the game."
Bouyed by her success, Zhu cannot resist playing another hour.

Savas has a slightly different set of guidelines as it's a one-on-one game. All the others are the same set of 4 rolls of 1d20 plus the mods as explained. The 4th one, the one without adjustments, is a roll to see if you have the willpower to stop, if you want to.
For Savas, the game you played: Look at your rolls: 13, 9, 24, 14 Look at my rolls: 14, 15, 13, 17
13+9+24=46 14+15+13=42 You won head-to-head Savas.
Your willpower roll: 14. Mine: 17. You didn't have enough willpower. You play another hour. Good that you're up!
Other games are resolved differently. You do the 4 rolls but have to equal or exceed my rolls. We tally how many of your rolls succeed. You would have had 1 success and lost half your "stake". Good that you played Savas!
1 success You lose half your stake. 2 successes: You break even. 3 successes: You win half of your stake. 4 successes: You win double your stake.

It's just the stat rolls? Reading the game rules for 21 it is Blackjack modified to dice. There is no bluffing, Intelligence, Wisdom, deception, or perception needed. The House is forced to roll until they have a number and then must stop, just like Blackjack. Are you saying those rules are meaningless for these purposes and we just roll and compare stats? That's easy enough I guess.) | | |
