ERASEDSo far it is following the manga/anime very closely - the only thing missing is the purple butterfly (but that would have required some CGI. It feels a bit dry but I don't know if its simply because I've seen the anime and have already been very well whammed by the wham scenes. I've seen two episodes so far - it'll be interesting to see if they can build the suspense like they did in the anime. The anime is the best time-travel story of the decade. and that's not spoiling anything you don't learn in the first episode | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 42,120 Likes: 5 Member | Member Joined: May 2000 Posts: 42,120 Likes: 5 | Hmmm ... have not gotten to Erased yet, but did watch an interesting one called 'The Discovery' (featuring Robert Redford).
The 'premise' is one of the more interesting ones I have seen in a long time. The idea is that Redford's character "proves" that there is "Life After Death" (although there are very few details about the 'proof'). They cut to 2 years later and there is a 'counter' that is past ... I think it was 40 million. There is also all manner of news and debates about the astronomical rise in suicides by people who want to 'transfer over'. That is the 'background' for the 'action' of the movie ... which I don't really want to go into so as not to spoil it for anyone <g>

But don't get the wrong idea. This is a really dark movie. Humans, Orcs and Elves living together ... well not so much 'together'. Think 'Racial prejudice' on steroids <g> And did I mention that it is really dark? I don't want to give any spoilers, so I will stop there. Very well imagined and executed! But it is kinda dark!

I had wanted to like the movie as I do love Urban Fantasy.
Just thinking about it today makes me cringe- not a fan. | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 42,120 Likes: 5 Member | Member Joined: May 2000 Posts: 42,120 Likes: 5 | I will admit that I liked the 'premise' more than I liked the movie. To be honest, I only like Will Smith in small doses <g> But I am not sorry I watched it. Maybe I have watched to many movies that were =much= worse <chuckle> And maybe I am not so picky ... about movies <shrug> I will say that I would have been a =lot= less forgiving if I had been foolish enough to spend money to see it in a theater <wink>

It worked for that purpose - but definitely could have been edited for better story impact. Seemed more like a TV show than movie. I wouldn't mind seeing more of the story - perhaps with a different production team.
Of course, I agree Urban Fantasy is pretty cool. More on history would have been intriguing as well.
