Forum Rules
DreamLyrics™ Message Gaming Community Forum Rules

DreamLyrics™ is a place where role-playing gamers from around the world can meet to play games and indulge in idle chit chat. We're sure that you will find it an informal, friendly, kick your shoes off and relax kind of place, and that you will make many friends here. The members here are, on the whole, good natured and kind to strangers and animals.

However, in order to keep this friendly community atmosphere alive, we do have to have certain rules that we all agree to abide by, just like in any other community. These rules are neither a burden nor beyond the bounds of common sense and decency, so we are sure that everyone will be happy to agree to them.

In fact, simply by the act of registering as a member in DreamLyrics™, that is exactly what you do. Agree to abide by the rules. There, that wasn't so difficult now, was it?

The rules will be enforced by the DreamLyrics™ Sysops and staff if necessary. This may be anything from editing or removing an offending message with a brief note of explanation all the way up to expulsion as a member. We're working on eternal damnation, but there are trademark problems involved.

If you have any questions about these rules or DreamLyrics™, please email sysops@dreamlyrics.com.

The Rules

[Please note: In the rules that follow, the terms, DreamLyrics™, the DreamLyrics™ forum, and the forum all refer to the DreamLyrics™ Message Gaming Community Forums, owned and operated by Gypsy.]

  1. RESPECT THE OTHER MEMBERS.

Other members of DreamLyrics™ should be treated to the same respect as you yourself are. Messages posted in the forum are written by other people and do not magically appear out of the aether. These other people have feelings and opinions just as you do and should be treated a such.

While we all enjoy a good healthy debate, personal attacks on other members or the staff will not be tolerated. Their opinions are just as valid as yours are, even if they are obviously out of their mind, but that's no reason to resort to profanity, name calling, insults, ridicule and other forms of malicious mischief. Nor may you call into question the integrity, character, honesty, intelligence, motives or personal habits of any other member. Disagree, yes, explain to them why they're wrong, sure, but try and keep a civil tongue in your head while doing so.

Other members' privacy must also be respected. Private messages, emails, names, addresses and any other personal information about other members must not be posted publicly without the other members express permission. It's OK if they reveal things about themselves, but you should keep it quiet. Especially the bit about their sister...

In fact, this also applies to non-members as well as members. Just don't say anything bad about anyone.

  2. DON'T DO ANYTHING ILLEGAL

You may not promote, plan, or facilitate any illegal activities through the forum under any circumstances. Plain and simple. We aren't interested, we don't want to know, and we might be duty bound to report you to the authorities simply to safeguard our own skins. If you feel you really must do something against the law, go tear that notice off your mattress. And don't tell us about it. Ever!

  3. DON'T VIOLATE COPYRIGHT LAW

This really falls under the umbrella of the previous rule, but it's worth stating separately. You cannot post anything to the forum, either in written form or as an image, to which you do not (a) hold the copyright yourself or (b) have the express permission of the copyright holder to post here.

The same applies to any trademarked or other proprietary material to which you do not hold the rights.

In addition, no links posted in a message or forum banner here should point to any material for which you do not hold the rights or have the express permission of the person who does.

Copyright law is a tricky business, especially on the internet, and there is a lot of misinformation about copyright law around. We're pretty sure you don't want to see us go out of business just because you thought you understood the law, so anything posted here is your responsibility and not DreamLyrics!. Of course, we don't want to lose a good role-player through bankruptcy, so if you have any doubts or questions, ask before posting and we'll be happy to give you our opinion (which is just that, our opinion, and not necessarily correct in any way - we're not copyright lawyers either). If we have any doubts about something you posted, we'll delete first and ask questions later.

On the other side of this coin, everything that is posted here in the DreamLyrics™ forums remains the copyright of the original poster (assuming they had the copyright in the first place - see above). Pictures and text posted here must not be reproduced in any form without the express consent of the original author of the material.

  4. DON'T POST PROFANITY, SEX AND VIOLENCE

Well, not in a public forum anyway. Anyone who can access the internet can read any message in a public DreamLyrics™ forum. This means children can read it, and there will be registered members who may find such material offensive. As this is the case you should not post any messages or images which contain scenes of graphic violence or sex, or use any profanity or sexually explicit language in your posts.

As a rough standard of what is and isn't acceptable, ask yourself if you'd let your seven year old daughter watch a TV program with the questionable prose/image in it. (If you don't have a seven year old daughter, try and imagine the situation - this is a role playing forum after all.) If you are in any doubt about what is or isn't acceptable, ask a sysop (but not in a public message for obvious reasons) and they will be happy to advise.

If you must swear in a public post, use asterisks to blank out all but the first letter of the word or use an acceptable euphemism. For example, if Hell was a word which was unacceptable (which it isn't), you could either write H*** or H-E-Double-Hockey-Sticks.

For those who want to be free to post whatever they want, we do have an 'adult' role playing section, Behind Closed Doors, where people are free to swear and post sexual and violent scenes. Access is restricted to adults aged 18 and over, and instructions on how to ask for access can be found in the FAQ section.

Basic message - if it's in a public forum, just keep it clean.

  5. DON'T DRIFT OFF TOPIC

As a courtesy to other members, please try to ensure that your posts are on topic in the thread they are posted to. If you have a post which is starting to drift away from the topic of a thread, start a new one. In addition, try and keep out of character comments separate from games threads. This is not a hard and fast rule which will be rigidly enforced. It's just a common courtesy to others, like saying please and thank you.

  6. THE MEMBER INDEMNIFIES DREAMLYRICS™ AGAINST RESULTS OF THE MEMBER'S ACTIONS

Long words, but what it means is that by becoming a member of DreamLyrics™, you agree to indemnify DreamLyrics™ against any damages, costs or expenses, including legal fees, that may accrue to the DreamLyrics™ as a consequence of any of your activities on the forum. More legal sounding words, but what it boils down to is that if anyone sues DreamLyrics™ for copyright or trademark violation, libel, slander, damages or anything else as a result of something you posted or uploaded here, then you pay the bills and you do the time.

As you're not going to do anything wrong (are you?), you shouldn't really have to worry about this.

  7. DREAMLYRICS™ IS NOT LIABLE FOR ANYTHING

You join DreamLyrics™ at your own risk. DreamLyrics™ is not liable for any damages or losses which might arise out of your being a member of DreamLyrics™ or out of your participation here.

DreamLyrics™ can take no responsibility for anything posted in the forums. We will make our best efforts to ensure that messages and pictures are suitable for public viewing where appropriate, that copyright law is not broken, and all the rest, but in the end we're only human, we can't guarantee we'll see and deal with any, much less all, of the problems. So everything posted here remains the sole responsibility of the author, and is nothing whatsoever to do with DreamLyrics™. If you have a problem with something posted here, by all means bring it to our attention and we will see what we can do about it. But if you want to take someone to court, sue the person who posted the information in the first place.

  8. DREAMLYRICS™ GIVES NO WARRANTIES

DreamLyrics™ makes no warranty of any kind, either express or implied, that members will be able to access this forum, that access will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that any particular information will be either available or accurate. Membership to DreamLyrics™ is given on an "as-is" basis, and what you see is what you get.

  9. DREAMLYRICS™ IS IN CHARGE

The owner of DreamLyrics™ is responsible for the forum and what goes on here, so in the end our word is final. DreamLyrics™ reserves the right to terminate the membership of any member or delete any post in a public or private forum without any warning, explanation or recourse. We sincerely hope we won't have to use this power, but we have to have it just in case. A bit like nuclear weapons. Don't make us use it folks.

  10. UK LAW WILL APPLY TO DISPUTES

By registering as a member of DreamLyrics™, you agree that any disputes between DreamLyrics™ and yourself relating to the DreamLyrics™, or arising as a result of your participation in DreamLyrics™, will be governed by the laws of the United Kingdom.

In the event that a clause in this agreement is found to be unlawful or unenforceable, the remaining clauses will still apply in full.

  11. DREAMLYRICS™ CAN CHANGE THE RULES

DreamLyrics™ can change these rules of membership at any time, without warning. Any changes to the rules will be posted on the Noticeboard. It's our ball, so we make the rules. If you want to make the rules, get your own ball.

  12. HAVE FUN

The most important rule is to have fun. That's why we're here, that's why you're here, and that's why they're here. Now stop reading these boring rules and go do it. Or else.
