The party leaves the building and though they can hear the Hobgoblins moving in the woods and the snarling of the wolves, no one challenges you.
After an hour or so it seems clear you are not being followed and the new Hobgoblin King, while perhaps not being honorable, had decided that he needed all his remaining warriors to prop up his new rule and therefore fighting you when you were leaving was not his best choice.

He was 'on edge' for a long time. He continually expected the hobs to try something ... it was in their nature. But eventually it seemed clear that the hobs had more important business than their group.

It is a relief to have left the castle and find that they weren't attacked. As they were leaving she calls Whisper back to her, telling her to fly high and not take any chances.
Once she returns, Jaliera makes a fuss of her and tells her what a clever bird she has been, feeding her a treat and suggesting she should sleep on her shoulder for now.
"Good job everyone. I think we worked well together."

It is clear that the Dragonborn is ever vigilant as they make their way. He seems accepting of the facts as they stand. He even offers a very human-like nod to let them know that he too is appreciative of their escape from the castle.

He remains in his dire wolf form until his time is up, just around the same time they stop for a rest. The wounds that he took during the fights are still there, wincing slightly as he finds a comfortable spot to sit down. Taking the time now, he cleans and bandages his wounds before looking around to ask, "I have a couple of healing spells left if anyone needs it?"

She sits down beside him, careful not to dislodge the sleeping Whisper.
"You're hurt! Perhaps you should use one on yourself."
Thinking back she comes to a realisation.
"You got hurt coming to help me didn't you? And I never really thanked you. I was so scared as there wee three of them facing me though Bern and his bow were in use behind me. Thank you."

"While I was captured I heard talk of someone called the Black Spider. Whoever that is, they orchestrated my capture and know about the Cave. He gives a warm smile to Jaliera as she sits down beside him and quietly replies to her, "You sent Whisper to find me, and I figured you needed help, so I ran as fast as I could to reach you. It was my fault for not being more careful... I didn't realize that the fake dwarf", Davroar had never encountered a doppleganger before and does not know the correct word for it, "would attack me as I ran past him. It was a stupid move, but we're here safe now."
He will graciously accept Ryssa's help in finishing the bandages he had awkwardly started to do, while returning a fond squeeze to Jaliera's hand too and at the same time gazing into her eyes with genuine happiness knowing that she is still alive after bravely facing three foes head on.
When Ryssa has finished, he will say, "Thanks Ryssa. It's a better job than I could've done."
Getting back to his feet and with no one taking up his offer for his spells, he does notice that Bern is looking quite the worse for wear and will walk over to cast two healing spells on him while saying, "Looks like you needed that more than me, Bern, since as you say we should get going and get more distance away from those goblins before nightfall."
[ooc: Looking at current status, I will use I believe my last two level 1 slots to cure wounds for Bern since he has the most damage.

Looking around for somewhere comfy to sit himself, he finds none and so plants his spear and leans on it.
"Perhaps a short rest here, only minutes, then push on?" He suggests to Bern.
Looking around he's glad to see they're all in one piece, more or less.
"You are all very talented." He says, "I am lucky to have you as comrades."
To Gundren, he can only nod in agreement. "Most likely, yes. This Black Spider wants the Forge.

She smiles back at Davroar, hearing Chandan's comment but just thinking it is some obscure proverb that he says from time to time.. and so ignores it.
"Yes, that is the most important thing, that we both lived to tell the tale."
She hears others talking around her though and it reminds her of when Davroar and herself searched for Gundren's brothers.
"Hi Gundren, I'm Jaliera. I believe you know my mentor Randall Stagg? When we were last in Phandalin, Davroar and I searched for your brothers but we didn't find them. They had not been for supplies recently either. Of course that does not mean they have come to harm. We have to hope for the best."

"I have some of my healing gifts left. Who has need of it?" He asks the others.
I show that Lumi has several spell slots left. He only used one on a Smite. The rest were all cantrips. He has 5 pts of Lay on Hands left as well, which he kept for 1 pt heals should they need them.

A creature you touch regains a number of hit points equal to 1d8 + your
spellcasting ability modifier. This spell has no effect on
undead or constructs.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell
slot of 2nd level or higher, the healing increases by 1d8
for each slot level above 1st. So your spellcasting modifier is the bonus from the Stat you use for spellcasting (CHA for Paladins), so a long response to say you were correct. If you had spell slots above 1st available you could cast a 1st level spell using a 2nd level spell slot and get an additional d8. Neal - Officially, according to the rules, a Short rest is 1 hour. We are playing a modification that reduces it to 10 minutes.

After the rigors, extended exhaustion, and blood and gore of hours of combat, travel back to Phandalin is uneventful. Eventually, as you clear the last rise, the buildings of the town come into view.
(OOC - I am officially transitioning to Neptune here. You are standing on a small knoll about 1/2 mile outside of Phandalin. Gundren has mentioned his missing brothers and the Spider and worries about Wave Echo cave, very briefly to you. The dragon born was tired from the exertion of the travel. Though he wasn't fond of cities, seeing this one brought warmth to his heart. It meant they could rest, and recuperate, thank the Great Dragon.
He remained silent, letting the others decide the order in which they would do things in town. Giving the weapon and armor back to the new town master seemed like first on his list, but he honestly didn't mind any choice.
Heal 5 from Lay on Hands, and 7 from cure wounds for a total of 12 on D!. I realize we will be able to heal in town, but no sense in not using the spells and last of the Lay on Hands.
