Well, okay. That might work somewhere else. Like on those ninnies in Cragside.
Ya know, you should have... <slaps hand over mouth>

And this then is occurring before she followed Mikal back up to the top of the tower?
So I will have to wait for that conversation to play itself out before she and Mikal have the conversation we previously posted? | | | | Joined: Jul 2011 Posts: 5,667 Moderator | OP Moderator Joined: Jul 2011 Posts: 5,667 | Kadri's post was made on the assumption that she would not be answered.
Renyard heard Kadri's questions and answered them. This occurred during her pause before following Mikal.
It should come to completion first.

If MIkal could hear her and Broke but not Reynard that would make editing and getting things in order the most simple, because then Mikal's reaction would not have to change much.

The one who can say whether or not Mikal moved out of earshot is Zeim for Mikal

Changes things only slightly though. The rule itself is not a big deal. It is the default rule for all life, after all. It should not even need to be a special rule. Fighting is already against the law most places.
The fact Dominie is OK with it lessens the impact of a non-Korie making rules (laws) in Korie lands, sure. But the larger issue is enforcement. (Not to mention you'd think Dominie would have said something before we left him to come here. He knew where we were headed. You'd think something like this would have been mentioned.)
Anyway, number 1, no one should be enforcing law on Korie lands other than Imperials or those deputized to do so. If Broke has a deputization from Dominie to be the Imperial "Police" here instead of the soldiery, that's again slightly different (and again is something you'd think would have been mentioned). If not, he has no authority to enforce anything, other than with the Forest Folk. If someone fights, the soldiery should be responsible for intervening with the Korie people.
Number 2, the rule is "No fighting", yet a Hasturian Investigator was killed. Either by Broke or at his direction, since he is the designated custodian of the "No fighting" rule. He is responsible for that death. That is at best a breaking of his own rule, and at worst murder. (And it implies the "No Fighting" rule is enforced by...., fighting?)
Number 3, he still made several wrong and extremely insulting statements towards Mikal, unprovoked, to the point that there is zero chance now that Mikal would have anything to do with him.
But sure, for the sake of everyone replying you can assume Mikal heard Reynard. I will let Kadri edit her reply first and then I can edit Mikal's. But short of a deeply sincere apology from Broke, Mikal views him like he does Jakal Montague.

Peace has resulted from the laws of a particular era at particular periods of time, but for many reasons - totalitarian dictatorship, benevolent rulership, rule from afar, or even in Kh'Lhy'ra when enough Princes say 'I'm bored ... lets have a party'. | | | | Joined: Jul 2011 Posts: 7,944 Sower of Insanity Moderator | Sower of Insanity Moderator Joined: Jul 2011 Posts: 7,944 | Adding to OOC, for Shout may scroll before Art returns: Art? Were I to beat one of the farmers here it should be the same. While true, the reason why Mikal could be put under arrest is not that he assaulted a member of the guard or a commoner. The reason would be that Mikal assaulted a person higher in the Imperial hierarchy than he. Any follower of a pagan cult is of lower social rank than an Imperial citizen. If Mikal put up the least bit of a fuss about it, he could even be burned at the stake. Were I to beat one of you, unprovoked, it should be still the same. This is not the case. If the Forest Folk are indeed below Pagans, the only way Mikal could be brought up on charges is if a person of equal or higher rank complained about it. However the worst that could be charged is not assault, but perhaps destruction of property. So, unless the Forest Folk have a patron in high places, acts of violence against them do not have to be accounted for.

Note the key word "should" in several spots. Mikal does not care about rank. It has been imposed upon him at times, but he is trying to make the point that he doesn't care about it and that it is a great example of why Law does not equal Order. Law is not the opposite of Chaos. Order is. Law is arbitrary.

I read a post and reply. So I'm very guilty of not pushing the plot and reading a lot and Lord knows my memory is so bad that there is no way I'm remembering things from months ago. So with all that in mind, you have these next questions in context and hopefully you'll forgive me but ...
What are we doing here? Is there some goal or quest or something we're supposed to be doing or are we simply relocating and learning about the world? | | | | Joined: Jul 2011 Posts: 7,944 Sower of Insanity Moderator | Sower of Insanity Moderator Joined: Jul 2011 Posts: 7,944 | Your airheadedness is so adorable, Niv. + "Everything is bad except unicorns." -- Phoebe | | | | Joined: Jul 2011 Posts: 7,944 Sower of Insanity Moderator | Sower of Insanity Moderator Joined: Jul 2011 Posts: 7,944 | OOC in response to action thread (because this is too long to be there): The way Super OCD Woman is reading it, Renyard moved away toward the other bigg'un; Keiko would have certainly followed and urged Bekkah to come along in order to continue their conversation. I don't think they have gone very far, although possibly far enough away that two separate conversation groups now exist: Bekkah + Keiko + Renyard + Lady... and Kadri + Mikal. Cesare has just joined the first group, although I suppose he's close enough to nod or wave or otherwise acknowledge Kadri and Mikal. If he wants. The confusion might have arisen in that the GM stated that Mikal and Kadri were free to do as they wished, Mikal asked about the food, and based on things said in posts too far back for me to look up this early in the morning, implied that IF Mikal and/or Kadri decided to check out Mrs. Heatherson's excellent meat pies or anything else in the market, one of the Guardians who isn't Broke would keep an eye on them. And Sidekick Kel is not going to answer Sidekick Nivek's question. Kel has her own agenda here with Keiko that has nothing to do with the main party's agenda. What Keiko is doing here, what her goal or quest might be (from her point of view) has nothing to do with the larger group at the moment. All y'all are going to let our wonderful little airhead know what's going on. Her goal is to spread her Lady's mercy and compassion all over and to heal the world! Ha. Keiko's goals and hopes and dreams are not so grand. See new sights. Meet new people. Other things maybe, but those are personal. "Everything is bad except unicorns." -- Phoebe | | | | Joined: Jul 2011 Posts: 5,667 Moderator | OP Moderator Joined: Jul 2011 Posts: 5,667 | In general Kel's summary of positions is close enough to be correct; especially considering that a Market is a dynamic condition.
In general Bekkah, Keiko and Renyard ... now joined by Cesare, are drifting away from the base of the stairs to hold their conversation.
Mikal asked about food and got his answer and my post included some conditional actions of the Forest Folks if Mikal and Kadri decided to move from the base of the the stairs. They have the freedom to undertake whatever action they wish and the best that I can tell they have chosen to pause and wait.
Art and Zeim, you may wish to reconsider your actions; you could be waiting until the other conversations run their course ... and by that time the Market may be over.
Due to the tensions that opened the scene it is only natural for the Forest Folk to be distancing themselves from the newcomers. This is fine and if its what you folks want they will continue on that course. If it is not what you wish, I recommend posting actions that work towards your character's own goals ....
Even if it a Bekkah-ish non-goal introspection. Perhaps Bekkah is a practicing Taoist ... where NOT having a Goal is the best way to attain one's Goals!
There's a Trundle native that lives that way. Why did Konrad lose his head? Because it was where my sword was at that particular moment ...
There are the three close Bigg'uns ... bigg'uns and lill'uns trading ... merchant apprentices, the local farmer folk, there is the local environs that could be explored, a creek, a river with hungry fish, a scouting of the area to see if the greater environs suite your uses; guardsmen who could be re-interrogated based on what you've seen and at least one past event that you've only heard a partial one sided version of.
If these - or any other - opportunities are of interest, you should post an action that moves you towards those goals, and if it involves other characters, what you say so they may respond.
Otherwise if nothing happens ... well then I'll eventually stir the pot, but I'd rather not have to. I'd rather be responding to you folks. | | |
