Only 57 years old, far too young. | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 42,126 Likes: 5 Member | Member Joined: May 2000 Posts: 42,126 Likes: 5 | Yeah, just heard <sigh> He wasn't a favorite of mine either, but there =were= a few songs I enjoyed.

He'd sometimes stop into local clubs after a concert and just play guitar. It's surprising how good he was. | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 42,126 Likes: 5 Member | Member Joined: May 2000 Posts: 42,126 Likes: 5 | There are several other 'guitar players' that are like that. WHen they are doing a show they are one way. When they are 'having fun' they are completely different ... and amazing. Sadly I was never lucky enough to see Prince play that way <sigh>

I was misremembering some of the ones playing with him, but I remembered his playing impressing me so. | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 42,126 Likes: 5 Member | Member Joined: May 2000 Posts: 42,126 Likes: 5 | Unfortunately it has been a bad year for musicians ... especially blues artists. We lost Lonnie Mac and Otis Clay this month alone. There have been several others this year <sigh>
<sings> the year the music died. so bye bye Miss American pie </sings>

This may be apocryphal, but supposedly someone asked Clapton how it felt to be the best guitarist in the world, and Clapton replied, "Don't ask me, ask Prince." | | | | Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 2,028 Likes: 7 Moderator | Moderator Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 2,028 Likes: 7 | Incredible guitar playing...and a fitting song to highlight.
As I posted elsewhere last night while drinking dark purple wine and listening to a tribute show:
