I think we should stick together though. | | | | Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 22,175 Likes: 8 (Buffalo) Moderator | (Buffalo) Moderator Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 22,175 Likes: 8 | Yes. First to look to the immediate right and see if there is a way forward that isn't filled with water, then to double back and look at the other passages. | | | | Joined: Jul 2011 Posts: 5,667 Moderator | OP Moderator Joined: Jul 2011 Posts: 5,667 | A quick note about Today's Map!
Portions of the underground labyrinth have been filled in over the course of two ages plus. Thus large black areas on the map do not necessarily mean that there is a room hidden within.
Second, remember that the suspected users of this place are fishermen and not, for example, master builders or dwarves.
i'm now off to write todays post! | | | | Joined: Jul 2011 Posts: 5,667 Moderator | OP Moderator Joined: Jul 2011 Posts: 5,667 | Today's questions ...
So you want to feed a Lizard-thing. This is interesting. You would have some jerky-ish snacks on you and you can probably find a trapped fish or two in small pools where the walls have collapsed and are rubble-like.
Just to confirm: are you going to try down the lit or unlit corridor?
And are you going to do anything special as you walk down the watercovered areas? | | | | Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 22,175 Likes: 8 (Buffalo) Moderator | (Buffalo) Moderator Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 22,175 Likes: 8 | Suggestion was to go down the lit corridor and try to distract the lizard thingy with food.
I haven't heard replies from everyone on those ideas yet.
As far as special, well using a stick or other thingy to prod ahead and make sure there are no holes in the floor we might fall into would be a good idea, presuming we can't see the floor thru the water. | | | | Joined: Jul 2011 Posts: 5,667 Moderator | OP Moderator Joined: Jul 2011 Posts: 5,667 | Just to note - you still have one or two "servings" to tempt the lizard - jerky and fish! | | | | Joined: Jul 2011 Posts: 5,667 Moderator | OP Moderator Joined: Jul 2011 Posts: 5,667 | A lizard thing killed! Kind of! Yea!
A few notes:
A) The other splashings and growlfs are far enough away that you will have time to deal with zombie-lizard before they get any closer. The noise is simply a warning that there are more of them further in and they may have noticed the commotion.
B) Between the time of the lizard falling and getting back up again you will have time to get Bekkah, Cesare and Bekkah on the other side of the pit. You will also have time to cast healing magics. Simply put these actions in he beginning of your nex post if you wish to do so.
C) Obviously the issue is not just taking down the dumb lizards, but figuring out a way of keeping them down or rendering them harmless once they’ve run out of hit points …
… and dealing with more than one. | | | | Joined: Jul 2011 Posts: 5,667 Moderator | OP Moderator Joined: Jul 2011 Posts: 5,667 | just so you know, work is going to hit me pretty hard until Thanksgiving. Simply put, once a Lizard-Thing is past its hit points its attacks are significantly weaker and less coordinated – too deadly to be ignored but if confronted not as much to worry for.
Stopping it requires attacks that will cripple it. Take an arm it can’t use its spear, take a leg, it cant chase you. Even then it takes a long time for it to die – but it will, eventually, die. This is probably fine if it can’t follow you. Taking its head stops it completely.
Tactics above brute force.
The other splashing and growlfs are still far enough away that you will have time to heal and prepare for them, and yes they appear to be getting closer. | | | | Joined: Jul 2011 Posts: 5,667 Moderator | OP Moderator Joined: Jul 2011 Posts: 5,667 | quick reminder!
its not smell thats going to give you away, its splashing through the water.
on the bright side, you'll hear them coming too.
so its a .... how do you take advantage of heir stupidity so you don't end up meeting a den of them kind of question. | | | | Joined: Sep 2000 Posts: 61,264 Likes: 3 Arssanguinus Moderator | Arssanguinus Moderator Joined: Sep 2000 Posts: 61,264 Likes: 3 | I am so tempted to have her break out her rendition of 'Under the boardwalk" | | | | Joined: Jul 2011 Posts: 5,667 Moderator | OP Moderator Joined: Jul 2011 Posts: 5,667 | Your strategy is working well ... you are pulling the bad guys from their ports to you.
Kadri can - if someone helps her - retrieve her dagger before the others arrive. Rory may be presumed to keep up his singing until he is asked to stop.
With three of them, I recommend having a coordinated plan before they get to you! | | | | Joined: Jul 2011 Posts: 5,667 Moderator | OP Moderator Joined: Jul 2011 Posts: 5,667 | A few notes:
In general the attack went well; while things fell apart your first attacks - from surprise - hurt the lizards significantly – enough to throw the odds – however slightly – back in your favor. So good planning prevented this from becoming a disaster.
At the moment, you have a chance to heal and come up with a plan for moving forward – you hear no further splashing ahead.
Kadri is lightly wounded in her head and leg. Cesare is badly wounded in the abdomen and slightly less in his chest. Mikal cannot use his left arm, has a light wound in the leg and a major wound in his chest.
A) If Cesare wants to use Elsewhere to get out from under from the dead/dying lizard thing, he may. Otherwise he’s going to need his companions help to get free. Lizard things are fat.
B) I’d recommend letting Bekkah take care of the worst wounds – Mikal’s arm and Cesare’s chest. Between her and your own skills you can stanch all wounds and be restored to full effectiveness (taking about a quarter of Bekkah’s power). You will need to be careful because you will still be hurt – you will not want o be hit again where you have been wounded. You can be completely healed by Bekkah but that would leave her with almost no power for healing if something goes wrong deeper in the dungeon.
Bekkah would have a few more magic points available if Kadri just healed herself.
C) Bekkah can totally heal one person, but she can only do this ONCE today (she can also reattach a limb and resurrect someone, but we haven’t gotten to THAT point!)
D) Yes, Mikal’s shield is now busted. However, Mikal can return to main gauche/shortsword- which may prove more effective now that you know how the lizard things act and can plan accordingly. It is good knowing multiple attack forms!
Rory is still safe where you left him. | | | | Joined: Aug 2001 Posts: 47,998 Likes: 1 Moderator | Moderator Joined: Aug 2001 Posts: 47,998 Likes: 1 | Thanks for the rundown on what Bekkah can do. L1 – Armored, with a sword and shield. L2 – Armored, with sword and shield. L3 – Makeshift armor, with a big rusty greatsword/cleaver L4 – Not well armored, the lizard-thing munching on the bone. He has a spear. L5 – The best armored, with a spear. F1 – The disgruntled human Dd – Dyddplentyn. Her chains and manacles are black metal.
The Grey Rectangle – the large, circular black metal wall hanging.
At this moment, they do not seem to have noticed the Group. | | | | Joined: Jul 2011 Posts: 5,667 Moderator | OP Moderator Joined: Jul 2011 Posts: 5,667 | It looks like we have gone above the limits of the gallery: The Shrine of the Shark God | | | | Joined: Jul 2011 Posts: 5,667 Moderator | OP Moderator Joined: Jul 2011 Posts: 5,667 | Time for round two! A few notes: If Bekkah wishes to heal Mikal she will have to touch him. Now this could be anywhere, including his toe, but there has to be physical contact. Mikal's own healing spell will stop the bleeding and stabilize him but not significantly help his lack of remaining hit points. The fisher lad is dead, the bone eating lizard will be ... eventually. Cesare, if he wishes can change weapons without penalty. All in all a very good round! The answer is Yes and No It can be used *once* per combat. But it is not forgotten and can be used later. For example: If you had used Elsewhere in the first fight with the lizard things, at the rope, you could only use it once in that fight. The fight had a definite "ending" and then you walked down the corridor. The lizard-things in the shrine, however, are a new batch and thus a new fight. So you would be able to use it again! Reinforcements arriving while fighting is not considered a new batch! | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 76,644 Likes: 60 Wizop Administrator | Wizop Administrator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 76,644 Likes: 60 | Better than I thought!
