"Do you have a plan for how to destroy them in there ... one that does not involve the possibility of burning the entire place to the ground", he asked Luminmorn indicating all the remaining buildings here, then expanding to include the forest beyond that.
He keeps to the left, just behind Ryssa and has a firebolt spell ready to fire at any undead that goes for their cleric. She is the difference between life and death for their little group.
"No I don't have a plan yet. But it occurs to me that when you fight choosing the ground and making it your advantage is always wise. For example when trying to defend and control your foes approach one uses a narrow pass for it. This isn't a defensive position we need all of us to be able to attack, yet we don't want them running loose."
"Well, I thought that was the point of this discussion", he suggested with a wicked grin. "Forcing the door seems to 'address' most of your issues. It limits their ability to attack us if we are there attacking them when they come out."
"If you build me a ladder I would climb through the windows but you would be far away. I say break down the door. There's no way we're going in unnoticed with you out in front."
He had started by replying to Bern but he finished by looking over at Luminmorn. The dragonborn paladin was practically glowing amidst these foreboding, rotting structures.
"Sounds reasonable to me. Who shall we block the door with?" Clearly he thought he would be one of the door breakers. He had javelins but his preferred method was up in your maw, with his sword. He pulled his new blade Talon and prepared for whatever it was the group chose.
"Meleers up front, ranged fighter behind", he suggested. "And I am happy to let you 'open' the door for us, just be sure to stay on this side and give us ranged folk a decent shot. You can have at those that got past us. Sound reasonable", he asked the group.
Bern gives a strong yank on the door, and with a loud grating, creaking and scraping sound it groans open. All are aware that any chance of surprise is lost from the noise, and those with sightlines peer anxiously into the room.
Inside you can see what must have been the common room of the inn. Tables and chairs, covered in dust and mold are spread around the room. There is a door on the western wall that is closed. The smell of yeast contesting with the smell of decay wafts out of the room as the door opens.
Slumped against the walls of the room are 6 humanoid figures. Rotting flesh hangs from their bones as they stand up when the door is opened. Maggots drop to the ground from their mouths as they open in a silent snarl of hatred.
Roll for initiative. You see 6 zombies inside the room. Note that the squares are 10x10 rather than the normal 5x5, so up to 4 man sized creatures can fit in one square.
The wave of stench that flows out over them almost has Balthazar heading for the bushes but he grimaces and moves slightly behind Bern to get a better view of the undead within, sending in a fiery bolt of mystic power at one of them.
Moving a step closer, Ryssa completed her preparation of turning with the last words of her prayer to Lathander and then pointed toward the rough center of the group of undead.
"By the power of the Morninglord, I command you get off the skin of this earth!"
