As the last ruffian flees she can see Davroar moving to help Chandan and Jaliera and Kriv chasing after the one who fled.
Leaving Iarno gasping and bleeding on the ground at the edge of the pool.
She moves across the room glancing in the pool as she passes around it, interested in the engineering of how the water is flowing into it.
Reaching Iarno she kneels down, taking out a dagger.
"Well, well. Not completely unexpected. I suppose I'd have taken the chance to escape were I in your shoes too. Too bad it failed. I'd kill you now for the trouble you've caused, but you're worth money to me. Well us. You've got a date with Sildar. Now, how about you tell me what's behind these doors", she gestures at the three doors in the room.

Kriv starts to give chase but getting up the stairs is a slower than desired process and by the time he reaches the closed door, the ruffian is nowhere to be found. The door leads to the ruins of the manor above the basement. There is no sign of the ruffian and he's gone, likely for good.
Inside the cellar, Kallista starts to interrogate the wizard who is in bad shape now. In his condition, he speaks freely. "That's just a storage room" he says about the room beyond the door just to the east of where he stands. "There's a passage under the steps over there that leads back to the crypt and cells. There's a pit trap in the corridor over there but nothing else to be found there. Your dragonborn friend is realizing that the upstairs manor is in complete disrepair, which is why I set up my office down here." | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 27,672 Likes: 1 Member | Member Joined: May 2000 Posts: 27,672 Likes: 1 | Kriv
Unfortunate, but couldn't be helped. He headed back down, noting with satisfaction the dagger in Kallista's hand in proximity to the wizard, and with ambivalence at Chandan no longer bleeding out. | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 13,126 Likes: 10 Wobbly Headed Administrator | Wobbly Headed Administrator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 13,126 Likes: 10 | Chandan
"Jeremy!?" He says, coming to.
The old monk sees Davroar and smiles, "Oh it's you!"
Picking up his spear, he struggles to his feet and looks around, impressed with the calmness in the room.
He pats the young druid on the shoulder.

She decides to stay by the open door with her bow at the ready. The ruffian.. or another.. may return this way. She calls back to the others.

Time passes and soon enough the quintet realize that their prisoner spoke the truth and that there is no living soul in the complex that hasn't been dealt with except for the elusive rat that Iarno claims he has released from duty.
The group has time to do a lot of things while this time has transpired. What are those activities? Please be specific. | | | | Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 22,475 Likes: 10 (Buffalo) Moderator | (Buffalo) Moderator Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 22,475 Likes: 10 | Kallista
"Yes", she replies to Jaliera. "Be careful", she adds. "He says there is a pit trap through the northern door." | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 13,126 Likes: 10 Wobbly Headed Administrator | Wobbly Headed Administrator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 13,126 Likes: 10 | Chandan
He pats himself down, but doesn't find what he's looking for.
"I need a drink!" He exclaims.
It's been a far longer day than he'd expected, and he'd been beaten, burned, cut and stabbed. He'd fallen in battle twice, only to be brought back from the brink twice.
It isn't the worse day he's ever had, but it's definitely in his top five.
A thorough search of the dead is in order. The slavers victims are still in the forefront of his mind, and he can't give up finding evidence of their whereabouts.
Otherwise, the first job is to return Iarno to Sildar, and resume their mission to rescue Gundren. | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 18,137 Likes: 2 Moderator | OP Moderator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 18,137 Likes: 2 | ooc: You were sooooo close to saying the right thing. I think you added a few extra words that limited what you were doing.
DM Chandan, now healed, starts to search the bodies of the dead ruffians. Aside from a few coppers and their swords, there is little of interest on them. But that is consistent with what they have found before. These ruffians took what they wanted and didn't pay for it. | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 27,672 Likes: 1 Member | Member Joined: May 2000 Posts: 27,672 Likes: 1 | Kriv

Once the others have returned she opens the door Iarno claimed to lead to a storeroom to verify his claim. As they take some time she takes the opportunity to spend a few minutes taking a drink of water and catching her breath.

After failing to find anything on the bodies of the dead ruffians, the dragonborn initiates a more thorough search of the chamber. They look everywhere and then they spot it. It was a satchel hidden inside the cistern, hanging from a rope on the south wall.
When they pull it out and look inside the waterproof bag, there are 50 gold pieces, a full set of clothing and two stoppered flasks. | | | | Joined: Jun 2002 Posts: 10,472 Likes: 3 Administrator | Administrator Joined: Jun 2002 Posts: 10,472 Likes: 3 | Davroar
He is impressed with how Chandan, as old as he looks, manages to bounce right back up from near death before Davroar can respond to him for the thanks given.
Instead he will cast his last spell for the day to help Iarno when it seems that they are safe from any more attacks while the rest of them search the rooms. He does not want to appear completely inconsiderate when they return him to Sildar.
After that is done, he will join Kallista in getting some fresh water from the cistern to drink and clean up a bit.

The old monk gathers whatever riches are lying around. They are the procedes of an evil endeavour, that's preyed on the surrounding area. He intends to give it to Sildar to dispense, likewise Iarno's just deserts.
Seeing Davroar and Kallista having a quiet moment, he joins them.
"I was fortunate to have you as allies today. You have wondrous gifts, yes, but how you use those gifts is what we can be truly grateful for." He said, slurping a handful of water. | | | | Joined: Jun 2002 Posts: 10,472 Likes: 3 Administrator | Administrator Joined: Jun 2002 Posts: 10,472 Likes: 3 | Davroar
"Glad I can help, Chandan, but may I ask why it seems you rush so quickly into a fight?"
He did not want to say careless, but at times it seems that way to him. Davroar has in his young life witnessed a few of his barbarian tribesmen go into a battle frenzy, but usually that only occurs when they are already in the thick of a fight.

He ponders Davroar's question but shrugs. He's never thought himself quick to fight, rather the opposite.
"I do not like fighting. So try to get it over with as quick as possible." Offers the monk.
Looking around the room at the puddles of blood, he sighs.
"Such violence in the world. Most of my life I ignored it, devoted myself to oneness of mind, body and the Four-Form Jade.
"But finally, one day I realised that to do good, one must abhor violence but one cannot ignore it, because evil thrives on it." | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 27,672 Likes: 1 Member | Member Joined: May 2000 Posts: 27,672 Likes: 1 | Kriv
The Dragonborn intercedes,
"If that is true, why did you rush in to inflict violence upon one who had renounced it through surrender?" | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 77,902 Likes: 66 Wizop Administrator | Wizop Administrator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 77,902 Likes: 66 | Jaliera
