Her eyes too are drawn to the singed spot. The other are moving forward to investigate. She hangs back but does move out onto the porch, staying behind the burden so he doesn't see her. | | | | Joined: May 2009 Posts: 15,092 Likes: 10 Chaotic Obfuscator Moderator | OP Chaotic Obfuscator Moderator Joined: May 2009 Posts: 15,092 Likes: 10 | The spot on the ground is a bit bigger than a burden. If two burdens stood together they might fit in that circle. But it did seem to be a neat little circle. It smelled like something after a fire, but it didn't seem exactly like that. | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 76,616 Likes: 59 Wizop Administrator | Wizop Administrator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 76,616 Likes: 59 | Tiger-Lily
She wonders at its shape. Doesn't seem natural. Maybe it is some sort of warding or summoning circle? She looks around for any signs of anything leading from or to it, even venturing into the rain, drawn by her curiosity. At the first touch of rain, her ears twitch and then she shakes her head, her movement has changed too, so that each paw is deliberately placed, and any wetter patches avoided.

She sniffed and circled trying to discern more.

He followed the smaller cats and tried to discover the various elements which came together to produce the fire/ash/smoke/ozone odor. | | | | Joined: May 2009 Posts: 15,092 Likes: 10 Chaotic Obfuscator Moderator | OP Chaotic Obfuscator Moderator Joined: May 2009 Posts: 15,092 Likes: 10 | To truly explore the patch one would have to be out in the rain. It was off the porch in the grass. But it was close to the porch so some light sniffing was possible.
Something was destroyed there, by fire, would be the best guess. Though it really isn't clear what or how. It also isn't clear why there isn't still fire there. The ground smells hot, even with the rain. | | | | Raven Unregistered | Raven Unregistered | ooc she'd already went out there in the rain.

The burnt ground was too perfect a circle. The rain fell near it but not into it. But it wasn't a ward or anything that the cats had ever seen before. It was almost as if the rain fell into it and never actually hit the ground. | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 27,615 Moderator | Moderator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 27,615 | Shadow

It seems like a blackened area with an odd smell.
The closer the cats get the more they realize it is otherworldly. That is likely why the burden seems unaware of it. It might have something to do with spirits.
Shadow is able to reach a paw into it. It is like a hole that he is sure he could fall into. | | | | Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 46,267 Member | Member Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 46,267 | Bringer
Seeing Shadow extend a paw into the smelly, dark place, Bringer snarled silently and moved up alongside the nebulous feline, stretching his head down and forward and sniffing. | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 76,616 Likes: 59 Wizop Administrator | Wizop Administrator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 76,616 Likes: 59 | TIGER-LILY
She doesn't like the look or the scent of the area. Her hackles rise. Though what they can do about it she is not sure. | | | | Raven Unregistered | Raven Unregistered | Soot
She growled in the back of her throat and looks to see if this type of magic had any sacrifice made for it to appear.

Gingerly, he tested the boundaries of the hole with a shadowy paw, reaching a little into its depths in curiosity. | | | | Joined: May 2009 Posts: 15,092 Likes: 10 Chaotic Obfuscator Moderator | OP Chaotic Obfuscator Moderator Joined: May 2009 Posts: 15,092 Likes: 10 | There was no obvious sign of how the magic was wrought. Yet all of the cats were sure of its other worldly nature.
As far as depth. Just reaching in it seemed to be a very deep indeed. | | | | Raven Unregistered | Raven Unregistered | Soot
She hated saying something like this; some of the others might scoff but...
"I can't tell about how this was formed," she yowled softly looking more indignant over this than the rain.

"It goes deep." Said the shadow cat. Better to relay knowledge than display a lack of it. He edged forward to look over the rim. | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 76,616 Likes: 59 Wizop Administrator | Wizop Administrator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 76,616 Likes: 59 | Tider-Lily
She watches Soot & Shadow as they investigate the mark.

It was likely beyond comfortable jumping range, which said something. It also smelled of burnt things which while entertaining once in a while, got overwhelming if inhaled for too long.
The rain picked up and the wind returned. It was no longer fun to be out in the cold wet. | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 27,615 Moderator | Moderator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 27,615 | Shadow
The two-dimensional cat looked around for something to carefully knock down the hole, like a small decorative lawn ornament.

Once knocked in, it fell far out of sight without any sound of ever striking a bottom. | | | | Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 46,267 Member | Member Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 46,267 | Bringer

"Hsss! What is there to discuss? A small, easily containable hole with no bottom. We kill something and ward it shut!"
The shadow of a cat scented the air for nearby prey.
