Soot's offer was interesting - he was not sure how it would work out if accepted - but it was interesting. He remained quiet, however, still hoping his question might be answered.

The spirit smiled at some thought or memory. "I like dreams, they are nice." Whether or not that was an agreement or just an acknowledgement of the cat's words, wasn't clear. Though the water spirit slipped from its indoor pool and took a couple of steps towards the bed and the burden. "I miss..." its voice trailed off like the foot prints drying upon the floor.

Tiger-Lily

She backs away, primarily to give the spirit room and to take a passive stance as it seems to be less of a threat right now. But there is also a small part of her that doesn't want to get too close.

Settling down to nap on the end table he'd selected as a suitably above-the-fray perch, Seeker seems like the others preparing to step into dream. But dream is never really his destination, and he hops above all that, to watch from the Astral, lest another spirit takes advantage of their distraction to set on the group of cats.

As the cats settled to watch, the spirit seemed distracted watching the burden. Though being made of water maybe it didn't want to get to close to the thing it once loved, if their guesses were correct.

Outside the wind began to howl and the sky darkened. A storm was brewing.

Shadow

The shadow cat hopped up to the nearest window sill, looking up at the sky as if to challenge it.

Tiger-Lily

She has no skills in the dream world but assumes that Soot's physical body may be vulnerable whilst she does her 'thing'. So Tiger-Lily takes a guard position next to her.

The dark clouds outside seemed to respond to Shadow's challenge by puffing up themselves and growing darker. Then there was a flash, off towards the mountains, close enough that their sensitive eyes felt it, something struck the ground. Then a loud pop followed by a rolling roiling wave of sound came. All the cats knew a bad storm was building.

Inside the house the burden shifted in his sleep, almost bothered by the noise but not able to wake.

Tiger-Lily

She looks around nervously. She doesn't like storms and the thunder hurts her sensitive ears. She shifts position, eyes wide, ears pricked.

Shadow

Dark clouds meant deeper shadows, bright flashes meant starker ones. Either way, he did not flinch from the oncoming storm, occluded as he was.

Soon the winds were battering the old burden's home. Water began to fall and pelt the windows. Inside at least it was warm and dry.

Shadow

He did his best to demonstrate to the storm that it was beneath his notice, arching his two-dimensional back and turning away from the window.

Tiger-Lily

She huddles on the floor, paws tucked beneath her, hoping that the storm passes before they have to go outside.

The storm seemed to feel Shadow's intimidation as it gave in a little bit and didn't thunder for a moment. But it was only a matter of time.

Then there was a second flash of lightning off towards the mountains again, followed by the threatening smash of sound.

As the cats watched over the burden and spirit, the spirit began to move closer to the bed. It seemed intent on moving to the burden and getting very close.

Tiger-Lily

She hope Soot is OK and looking after the situation. She keeps half an eye on the spirit, not sure if they should be letting it draw close to the burden or not. However the storm is a real distraction, she can feel her fur ridging as she grows more nervous.

Slipping back into his body, he already had a bit of an idea what was happening. What he'd seen swooping back in on as an Astral viewer.

Because if she's in the dream, should she be moving? It didn't make sense that the spirit could be two places at once. But the shadow... could it have taken the woman's place in the water spirit? Not by any rules Seeker knew, but none of this obeyed any spirit magic he'd learned about. Which only meant he didn't know enough.

With a hiss, he lept off the end-table toward the bed, trying to get himself between the spirit and the old, mean Burden that, right now, he had to protect, whatever else the man had done.

Except, of course, that once he was there, he didn't exactly have a lot of options tht would actually stop a spirit...

"In the dream. Not here." His tail bristled and he made as firm a stand as he could. An act, all of it.

Shadow

On hearing the hiss from the other room, the cat of shadows gently leapt from the sill and padded towards the noise. He wasn't entirely sure what was up, but he had quite a few options that could stop a spirit.

Tiger-Lily

She looks up startled, her focus had been on the encroaching storm. She shifts her awareness to the preternatural to see if it reveals anything.

The spirit seems unaware of Seeker, possibly too engrossed in the dream that Soot is spinning.

The spirit continues to approach the old burden lying in the bed. All of the cats remember the tale of the drown cat from this very house who died recently.

Tiger-Lily

Unsure what is happening but concerned that the spirit's closeness might not be a good thing given what happened to the cat here, she yowls out a warning.. to the spirit?.. to the others? She isn't sure.

Shadow

Thinking quickly, the shadow-cat darted across to the floor in front of the spirit, brushing its intangible form up against the front of the spirit's legs so as to impede its progress. Not an overtly hostile act, but a risky one, as the price of the spirit being affected by him was he could be affected directly by the spirit, especially if he was successful in getting its attention...

No, she didn't look like she was actually threatening him, or even noticing him at all. Was she only seeing the dream but still moving out here? Did Burden dreaming work like that? Or maybe just Spirit-dreaming? That was a very foolish way to dream. You could hurt yourself, or others, and you wouldn't even know it. I mean, if she gets any closer she'll totally engulf Seeker in her watery arms.

Wait a minute. Think that through.

Oh! Oh no!

Suddenly realizing what he'd done, Seeker tried for a quick dash aside. The familiar issue of burden sleep-coverings and claws were temporarily forgotten, only to bring themselves back to mind with an ungraceful pull, a twisting fall, and then a sharp attempt to tear free in time.

[OOC Nice written self compel for the tripping hazard of the bed spread. Have a Fate point. Running totals Soot has 2, Seeker 4 and everyone else 3.]

The normally agile cat flops onto the bed in an ignoble rolling clump. Shadow intervenes by slowing the spirit's advance, yet stays out of harms way.

The spirit doesn't seem to notice even though her slowing means she must have, mustn't she?

The old man burden snorts but doesn't quite wake from the activity. Though experienced cats know he is closer to the waking world than before.

Tiger-Lily

She doesn't like this and her tail swishes from side to side as she worries about her new friends. She is also worried about the Ward she set earlier and whether it will help or hinder in the long term.
