Bekkah could take care of Kadri's shoulder, unless previous healing done by Mikal doesn't let her do that. She doesn't like to complain, that brave little Kadri of ours, but her shoulder probably hurts a lot.
- Cart (with or without a horse) - a few hundred feet of the thickest rope we can get - a few barrels of lard or axle grease - bolts, arrows, and throwing daggers
As long as you buy small, reasonable items, you don't have to worry for spending coin.
Reasonable would cover the arrows, knives and such requested by Cesare and Darian; basically items for keeping yourself "normally" equipped. 15-45 feet of rope. Four gallons of lard - four crockery pots (each about the size of a a paint can) worth.
The moment you cross into "large scale" purchases - a cask, a barrel of lard, a wagon, a mule/horse, 100 feet of rope you are into needing to worry about coin.
Now Fengel can get you the small containers of lard (which doesn't cover all that well) and if you remember right you got a better price on rope in the market. However, 100 feet of rope will basically wipe out all of Mikal's money.
And no ... you can't add the "free" materials atop a larger purchase
does each person carry personal equipment that includes rope that we can add to the 45 feet, or was that what you meant about not adding free stuff?
45 feet is probably enough to make a few noose traps but nowhere near enough to weave between the pillars to make a web that blocks the central part of the stairs. Perhaps we'd have enough to also make a trip line or two to slow the lizards down, but we'd not be able to block it off as I'd envisioned.
I would have guessed 250-500 feet minimum for that (I work with rope a lot in my Scouting career).
(Imagine a Fire and Brimstone type of preacher here, except dressed like Frank-N-Furter from The Rocky Horror Picture Show... bold are song titles from our upcoming concert, italics are lyrics, underline are from our standard repertoire folder.)
Friends, we are gathered here today to worship in the House of Music, gathered to sing praise to the Lord of Song, the Lady of the Lyrics, the Right Hand of Rhythm, and the Holy Meter of each and every Measure. As I stand before your motley presence, I see many tired faces, many lazy limbs and dyspeptic diaphragms. But I want you know I have been there. Been with you through the fermatas and the rests, the crescendos and mezzo pianos, wading through the Daba-Dabas and the syncopations...
For although we know that Soon It’s Gonna Rain, you know that I Believe In the Sun! Hallelujah, Brothers and Sisters!
And just Because there are Frozen Waters that the Almighty has seen fit to Blow Blow Thou Winter Wind upon, we will never forget that glorious Sleigh Ride to heaven that awaits! Can I get an Amen?
Even when it’s Raining in My Heart, and I fear I may face the final Rastose Libre of the Heatwave below, I Can’t Help Lovin’ Dat Man of Mine! You know his name! He’s gotcha Walkin’ On Sunshine! I feel alive! I feel the love, I feel the love that’s really real!Hallelujah!
So if you’re feeling low on some Starry Starry Night, always remember that Once In a Rainbow there’s a Zippity-A-Dee-Doo-Dah chance that it will still be a Beautiful Day! Amen! I said Amen!
I am away now until the middle of next week. Cesare will work towards the preparation and then take his place in the fight, electing not to take a front row position but ideally to using throwing daggers from side or second line.
More pics in the gallery... includes two views of blockade and platform, and pic of who is where.
NOTES: The blockade consists of rope looped around all four pillars with wood, blankets and anything else the shoppers thought to bring or the gatherers gathered. The height of the blockade is approximately 7 to 8 feet.
The platform consists of rope stretched tightly between pillars and chains hanging from walls and ceiling; on top of the ropes is Darian's tarp. The platform is approximately 8 to 10 feet off the floor.
GMs notes: Hits and misses were rolled normally; a miss was a normal miss - the descriptions were embellished to provide a possible reason for the miss. No negative modifiers were applied during the actual roles. Dean and the second rank folks had limited opportunity to fight the first two rounds, thus they were not ignored - its only now, with the next set of combat rounds will they have a change to engage. The fight was paused here, with the leap of a beast past Daxia, to allow the second rank folks a chance to change their actions in order to react to the intrusion.
Thus Cesare, Bekkah and Kadri had no specific actions because the fight has just got to them. I had no instructions for Celi's actions.
Unhappily, most of the beasts did very well on their dex roles. We'll see if their luck holds for the second wave.
And for those unfamiliar with combat terms, "rank" in this case has nothing to do with quality or importance ... it is simply one's position in a battle line. Front line is first rank, the line behind that the second rank, etc. The first three ranks tended to work as a team, with the back ranks being able to attack over the front ranks and out of reach of the attackers.
And yes, having been in a bridge battle myself, necking down the front can create a grind-fest ... leaving you to stand and watch for a bit. On a good day you don't fight. On a bad day you suddenly find yourself the new first rank.
And no, things may not be as bad as you think. The beasts are still moving, but you don't know how badly they may be hurt. You folks are still whole .. they may be barely hurt ... or they may be barely alive
And faltered does not mean failed; you still have Tashka's light.
I also thought it would be interesting to give you a glimpse into Bordertown politics, and how events in one part of the world can have a drastic effect on what happens on another.
Such as bamboozling the Mark, preventing their early return to Bordertown.
Edited because somehow a very important "no" was left out.
Gyspy and by extension Cesare is not due back until tomorrow. Admittedly tomorrow reaches her much earlier than the rest of us, but to give her time to reply....
