I always choose my class, race, and build first then create a personality to match that. | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 13,070 Likes: 9 Wobbly Headed Administrator | Wobbly Headed Administrator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 13,070 Likes: 9 | I'm on holiday from Saturday, 23 to 30 Jul, guys. If I can manage it, I'll be offline the whole time. Arus will back-up Kriv at the Rossolios'. He'll also get his armour refurbished and buy a new longsword. Can you pay to have items enchanted? I know it was a thing in 3rd Ed but bonuses were given out like candy in that edition. Or could I pay gold to have it discovered at Arus's plate is actually made from mithral, for example. | | | | Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 10,481 Likes: 13 Maris Imperium Member | Maris Imperium Member Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 10,481 Likes: 13 | The hour of forced march in the above schedule should still equate to no travel in the dark. Well, damn. I was going to kick off my DM stint with: You are on a dark desert highway. The cool wind rushes through your hair and you can smell aroma of local herbs rising up through the air. Up ahead in the distance, you see a shimmering light. | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 13,070 Likes: 9 Wobbly Headed Administrator | Wobbly Headed Administrator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 13,070 Likes: 9 | Ah. Well the road also runs along the edge of a marsh, so the desert might be out too. | | | | Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 22,222 Likes: 9 (Buffalo) Moderator | (Buffalo) Moderator Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 22,222 Likes: 9 | Well, if our heads grow heavy and our sight grows dim, we might want to stop for the night..... | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 42,163 Likes: 5 Member | Member Joined: May 2000 Posts: 42,163 Likes: 5 | I'd rather it was at a tavern with plenty to drink <weg>

I have just begun to look at Sindar, so any help to level him to 7, is happily accepted.
I don't want to hold up anything. | | | | Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 22,222 Likes: 9 (Buffalo) Moderator | (Buffalo) Moderator Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 22,222 Likes: 9 | So as I am looking up 7th level bard, I noticed this 6th level ability. Not sure I recall Sindar using this to counter the Aboleth's Mind Influencing attacks?
Countercharm At 6th level, you gain the ability to use musical notes or words of power to disrupt mind-influencing effects. As an action, you can start a performance that lasts until the end of your next turn. During that time, you and any friendly creatures within 30 feet of you have advantage on saving throws against being frightened or charmed. A creature must be able to hear you to gain this benefit. The performance ends early if you are incapacitated or silenced or if you voluntarily end it (no action required).
So lots of good 4th level spells (you get a new 4th level spell at 7th). Are you looking for an attack spell, a disabling spell, a "buff" spell?
Take a look here: http://dnd5e.wikidot.com/spells:bard
Don't forget to roll your HPs (or add 6 HPs if you are using the average). You can also swap a spell you currently have for a new one. | | | | Joined: May 2009 Posts: 15,166 Likes: 11 Chaotic Obfuscator Moderator | Chaotic Obfuscator Moderator Joined: May 2009 Posts: 15,166 Likes: 11 | I didn't use it, because I evidently missed that! | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 13,070 Likes: 9 Wobbly Headed Administrator | Wobbly Headed Administrator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 13,070 Likes: 9 | Well you could legitimately say that Sindar was trying not to swallow sewer water at the time and was disinclined to belt out a tune. I can't figure out how to edit Sindar's character sheet in Roll20. The edit button only seems to allow me to edit the avatar and bio. Hints? | | | | Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 22,222 Likes: 9 (Buffalo) Moderator | (Buffalo) Moderator Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 22,222 Likes: 9 | To edit the sheet, you must select the "Character Sheet" tab and then highlight the pencil icon. Once you do that you can select the "gear" icon next to each line (to change it to yellow) which will allow you to edit the text.
For spells, I believe once you have your character sheet open you need to go to the Compendium icon (upper right of main screen, "i" in a circle, not on pc sheet) go to spells, select your class and level and the spell you want and then drag it onto the pc sheet.

Rolled a 1, Sindar's con mod is +1, that gives him 2 hp to add to his total for 7th correct? | | | | Joined: May 2009 Posts: 15,166 Likes: 11 Chaotic Obfuscator Moderator | Chaotic Obfuscator Moderator Joined: May 2009 Posts: 15,166 Likes: 11 | Looking through stuff, it seems that Sindar should have another lvl 2 and a level 4 spell. Given his spell list, he has a lot of Wis save attack style spells.
Spell list currently is: Cantrips prestidigitation, vicious mockery, dancing lights, [eldritch blast] - Lvl 1 : tasha's hideous laughter, healing word, detect magic, dissonant whispers, heroism - Lvl 2 : shatter, invisibility - Lvl 3 : tongues, fear, [dispel magic]
Considering for my level 2 See Invis or Knock, though he has thieves picks and tools, though there are a few good spells in there.
For level 4, I am considering a few different ones, but Raulothim's Psychic Lance is a nice attack spell. As is Phantasmal Killer. Charm Monster or Compulsion certainly have their utility, as does the good ole faithful Dimension Door.
Again suggestions are welcome. | | | | Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 22,222 Likes: 9 (Buffalo) Moderator | (Buffalo) Moderator Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 22,222 Likes: 9 | Pande - Remember in 5e you do not get spells/lvl to know, only to cast. With your 10 known spells at 7th level, you could choose to have a single 1st level spell you cast 4 times a day, a single 2nd level spell you cast 3 times a day, a single 3rd level spell you cast 3 times per day, and then a variety of 7 4th level spells that you can choose from but can only cast one of per day.
Now in reality, as you progress you wouldn't be able to align it that way, but I was exaggerating to make a point. Do not align the number of spells you can CAST with the number of spell you can KNOW.
In this case, since you just gained 4th level you would gain a 4th level spell to know. You also get the ability to change any one spell for any one other spell (regardless of level), so you could drop one of your first level spells and take a second 4th level spell now.
For the spell you are short, it can be of any level you are able to cast, 1-4. It doesn't have to be 2nd. Considering your bleh comments on the 2nd level options you have I might suggest using it to take a second 4th level spell here. | | | | Joined: May 2009 Posts: 15,166 Likes: 11 Chaotic Obfuscator Moderator | Chaotic Obfuscator Moderator Joined: May 2009 Posts: 15,166 Likes: 11 | Nem... Pretty! Sure I will take your assistance! I started to make changes on Roll20, so some stuff like HP are on there. I had forgotten about spell slots. I am old, and was playing Ad&d Monday night on the net with Stranger and another friend, which is a game called Star Chamber, 1960s Bond with magic, the two characters are a tri class Monk, Cleric of Vishnu, Ranger, and an Assassin, Wizard. Both 00 agents of course! Stranger in a Strange Land is the GM, and refuses to learn another game, so we keep playing the same system we have been playing since the mid 70s, whenever AD&D hit the shelves. We started with Chainmail. For me 5e is a strange beast! I heartily agree 2 fourth level spells are the way to go! Probably Raulothim's Psychic Lance and one other, maybe Dimension Door since he doesn't have the convenient Fey Step power that an Elf has. Stinking pointy eared....
