Let's hope you can find something, ideally getting Zoom working as it worked so well for the rest of us. I can open a meeting for you if you want to test, just let me know! | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 76,837 Likes: 60 Wizop Administrator | Wizop Administrator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 76,837 Likes: 60 | And BTW I really enjoyed the session, firstly remembering more of the Roll20 controls than I thought I would on my second time! But the main pleasure for me is to meet the players in the virtual FTF environment. Thanks everyone! | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 18,012 Likes: 2 Moderator | OP Moderator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 18,012 Likes: 2 | I like the idea of a periodic FTF, especially for combat situations.

It was enjoyable, and does definitely improve combat as that tends to drag in a message game. | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 13,070 Likes: 9 Wobbly Headed Administrator | Wobbly Headed Administrator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 13,070 Likes: 9 | It made me think a lot more about my character mechanically too. I'd largely forgotten about spells since I created the character, for example. I do need to go through and create a proper spell selection.
But yeah, the highlight is the face-time with you all.
MikeD. Zoom might not work with your 15-year-old Windows 7 laptop but if you have an Android or iPhone, you could download the Zoom app onto it.
Then all you'd need to do is login to the meeting on your phone and prop it up somewhere. It would use your phone's camera and mic. Then your laptop would be dedicated to Roll20.
The only downside is you wouldn't see all our video feeds at the same time on your phone's smaller screen, only the active talker. That might be adequate though.
Edit: Anyway, I need to continue writing my in-game post!

Let me know if you need a longer session.. or more testers! We should agree a date for a test. Metagaming here for a minute.
For example, Zhu, the pc, might make the comment here:
"Hey, aren't we chasing down some giants? Aren't we kind of in a rush and should not get sidetracked?"
However I (as a co-DM) know how the campaign is designed and it is a series of modules that your DMs want you to play in and so we will have to pause fairly frequently to take on side tasks.
Hopefully each will fill in some clues about the larger mission so ultimately will provide value. | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 13,070 Likes: 9 Wobbly Headed Administrator | Wobbly Headed Administrator Joined: May 2000 Posts: 13,070 Likes: 9 | I'm assuming in player and in character that it's all connected. | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 42,163 Likes: 5 Member | Member Joined: May 2000 Posts: 42,163 Likes: 5 | Well ... if I =had= any details, I would be happy to offer them up <wink>
FWIW, I think you are doing a great job helping to run this. (hope that means my character will be saved at some critical moment <gd&r>)

And we're in Yartar for a short while anyway to get some local intel from the owner of the Lionshield Coster. He's technically an arms dealer. The doppelganger came this way, and we suspect the giant raid might be part of some wider 'arming up' of a (possibly giant-related) faction in the region. Arus is assuming this cure resistant disease inflicted on the young lord is some kind of weapon. So it sets off the same alarm bells for him. Meanwhile, yesterday I ran Secrets of Sokol Keep for a party of five 1st-level bards, members of a single arcane rock band. http://www.leanerminds.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=50&t=84It went well. 1st level is still very gruelling and limited but bards seem far less limited. Between their different ranged or melee approach, their different racial traits and spell lists, each PC felt surprisingly unique in play. Being bards they didn't lack for skills, for healing, or for successful attack rolls since they were all giving each other Bardic Inspiration. So there you go. Same class 1st-level party in 5e is very valid... with bards at least. An all-barbarian party might struggle! | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 42,163 Likes: 5 Member | Member Joined: May 2000 Posts: 42,163 Likes: 5 | Depends on the 'location' and the 'problems' to be resolved <wink>

I think that Zeim and I played it at Gencon during the 5e release. It's the Tyranny of Dragons season. It's an interesting mod. NPCs in it come into play in higher level AL mods.

But yeah, Bards are the most flexible class so they can cover all the key roles in a party at need. Although, any party that includes healing is probably viable while those that do not are in trouble.
For example, 5 clerics would work too. Buffing and healing each other, and at 1st level there isn't that much difference in melee attacks among any pc type.
5 Barbarians (or any fighting class that lacked healing) would eventually wear down, as would 5 Arcane spellcasters. 5 Rogues could have a shot, but likely only if they managed to sneak thru the whole module without too many fights. | | | | Joined: May 2000 Posts: 42,163 Likes: 5 Member | Member Joined: May 2000 Posts: 42,163 Likes: 5 | Zeim ... you didn't mention Rangers!!! They are decent fighters, have useful skills (when not in a city <wink>) and spell casting including =some= healing ( so carry a couple of potions to take up the slack <weg> )
